The funny thing is....
Im actually really looking forward to watching Ponsoon. I like his assortment of pitches and when his pitches are really diving to the deck, he can make guys look foolish
slc, u here?
Boston is playing like crap. Sam Cassell needs to go back to LA….what a waste of space.
just got ownaged
I'm just saying
that I think it’s funny how we are so desperate for pitching that we look forward to watching Sidney Ponson pitching.
-Wakes
That lineup
should be able to score runs. When Hank comes back and Chris Davis comes up that seems to be a whole 1 through 9 that I enjoy looking at.
Am I wrong?
Ponson
Could anyone who saw his last start talk about his stuff? Was it that good or did he just get lucky?
Fire Ron Washington
He was pretty good.
kept his stuff down and had good control.
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
He was good
Threw 108 pitches through 8 innings of work, 76 of which where strikes. Gave up 6 hits and walked two, but got two doubled play balls, and struck out 5.
The only run he allowed came on a broken bat bloop single.

Hamilton
has dropped from 336/386/582 to 300/347/531 in his last 5 games. Lets hope he can get back to his ways tonight.
It has probably just been a simple evening out.
Does anyone else have FSN Kansas City
on their set???
I’ve got the Royals and the Angels but no Rangers. anyone else in that predictament?
Thanks
Yeah, that’s weird.
Of course, he is no-hitting the Twins, though – not all that hard to shut that offense down if you can get Mauer and Morneau out.
by LSJ on May 6, 2008 9:09 PM CDT up reply actions
Lets see here...
Well, the Twins probably have the better OF offense, but save for Morneau their INF sucks. We’re without Blalock right now, but I’d still rather have our offense.
by LSJ on May 6, 2008 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Why...
Why has there been a rash of comercials for ED medicine during the late night Ranger games? Have we been that bad that its affecting our manhood?
On that note….
Don't most people
watch Ranger games sitting in a old-fashioned bathtub overlooking the Pacific Ocean?
err...
did Kins touch first base?
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Random thoughts...
I am counting on you posters, and Ponson, and Hammy to keep this game in check tonight.
Have fun!!!
Ibanez will be a coach/manager, based on the pre-game interview.
Ok, off to the other room to watch Iron Man.
Go Rangers!
Peace
Hehe-Keens w/the 2b!!!
...it's the weekend, so why the hell not?
On the Seattle feed, it showed the AL RBI leaders
Ortiz has 26… where did that come from? Last I saw he was hitting like .150…
he had like
11 or 13 against us in that 3 game series
that got him going pretty good
by blueballlefty on May 6, 2008 9:22 PM CDT up reply actions
It was eternal.
I was cleaning up after dinner, so the game was in the background, but it certainly lasted forever.
I'm surprised he couldn't get two on that.
Or at least the runner at home.
Not that it bothers me, of course.
You know whats funny
Right now Jason Botts probably = Ritche Sexson.
by LSJ on May 6, 2008 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions
The angle in Seattle made that look like it was headed out.
I’d prefer some hits to some sacrifices, but at least we’re getting runs.
Okay let's go here.
we need at LEAST 3 runs in this inning.

His patience after just coming to the majors is amazing.
If he gets significant play this year, I’ll be interested to see who PECOTA compares him to.
He has the 2-3-4 hitters in the Twins lineup
Harris, Mauer, Morneau. Three tough outs.

gameday showed
that pitch to be belt high and over the middle of the plate.
Looked like something he should drive.

don't disagree
I am only following on gameday so I did not hear it or see it as well. Just looked like a possible mistake pitch.
Danks, Volquez, Galarraga and Young are GONE! GET OVER IT! Endless whining will not bring them back!
yeah looked that way
If it would have been a called sacrifice he wouldn’t have pushed it and started running so hard
SERIOUSLY
we are up by two in the second inning with a guy who just threw 44 pitches and we F’ing bunt here? WTF
here we go again
a struggling pitcher… and we’re bunting and giving away outs…
this pisses me off…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
I think he was bunting for a hit
knowing that if he drew sexson far enough off of first he would have been safe easily. It would have been a sacrifice either way so why not?
I think...
...he was bunting for a hit…
That didn’t look like a sac bunt try.
by Adam J. Morris on May 6, 2008 9:50 PM CDT up reply actions
doesnt matter
what he was doing he still gave up 4 or 5 pitches to a tired guy and should have been swinging
by blueballlefty on May 6, 2008 9:51 PM CDT up reply actions
and it pretty much guaranteed a run
it didn’t look like a called sac bunt. But given the results its fine by me. Seriously whether a guy has 65-68 pitches after 2 innings doesn’t make that big a difference
i know thats not the objective
but a guy that tired likely going to give a pitch to hit it was a poor decision and not good baseBALL
by blueballlefty on May 6, 2008 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions
the object of the game
is to score more runs than the other team, not knock the opposing pitcher out of the game in the 2nd or 3rd inning because of a high pitch count
That fact is why...
I don’t like a bunt there.
Hey, it could be worse...
by HighPlainsGrifter on May 6, 2008 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions
It makes it tough to have crooked numbers on the board..
when you bunt so much.
Hey, it could be worse...
by HighPlainsGrifter on May 6, 2008 9:51 PM CDT reply actions
Whether that was a bunt for a hit or not
I do not like the fact that Ron Washington has seeded this team with the idea that bunting with a runner on second and nobody out in the 2nd inning is good baseball.
yeah youre right
seeding his team with the idea that scoring more runs than your opponent is the wrong message.
Runner on second, nobody out, 2nd inning
Is not a bunt situation.
by LSJ on May 6, 2008 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions
ok
so what if kinsler grounds out to 3rd base right there and the runner doesn’t move up? Youngs sac fly moves him to 3rd and Hammy strikes out and we only have 2 on the board instead of 3. The object is scoring runs. Whether its a 400 ft home run or a sac bunt followed by a sac fly. They mean the same. Give it a rest man
And what if Kinsler doubles?
Or homers? Seriously, it’s the top of the order. You shouldn’t be afraid to let the top of your order swing the bat.
by LSJ on May 6, 2008 9:58 PM CDT up reply actions
Like I said
It didn’t look like a called sac bunt there. Who knows what would have happened. Instead of bitching about a sac bunt why don’t you appreciate the fact that we gave Ponson an extra run of support.
Getting the run was fine
I’m just saying I do not like the fact that Ron’s philosophy has given the top of the order the idea to bunt in that situation. It would be different if it was late in the game, or if that had been Ramon Vazquez, but that was Ian Kinsler, and that was the second inning.
Kinsler should not be pulling Gerald Laird moves by bunting for hits, his bat has more potential than that.
I got no problem with the idea of manufacturing runs,
but when you got a pitcher on the ropes, i would prefer to swing away and attempt to get to the pen.
when you bunt there
you absolutely take a big inning out of the equation,
by bunting there you resign yourself to scoring 1 run when,
the possibility of scoring 3 or 4 presents itself so in the
end my conclusion bigsteve is YOUR WRONG!
by blueballlefty on May 6, 2008 10:00 PM CDT up reply actions
No
the big inning is still a possibility. You have 2,3,4 coming up who can generate offense. If we were down by 3 or 4 runs or had been scoring a bunch or runs lately then yeah mayeb I could see your point. But we haven’t. A lot of 2,3,4 run games, a guy on the mound who, as good as he has been so far, you don’t really know what he will give you. So I don’t mind capitalizing a leadoff double even if it means giving up 1 out in the 2nd inning. If the pitcher really is that tired we will have other chances to get a big inning.
Hamilton the hunter
Josh Hamilton does not hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure.

You can’t take runs for granted especially early in the game. Now that we do have a 5 run lead you don’t necessarily need to worry about it as much

doesnt it seem like salty swingin’ for the fences everytime?
Yeah
He seems to be overswinging right now. I don’t know whether it’s the excitement of being in the majors, or him trying to compete with Gerald Laird, but the fact that he is not getting everyday AB’s seems to be hurting him.

It was far from a stupid trade.
Slightly below a wash, but as much as I love Hamilton, I’m almost as high on Volquez and think this franchise would benifit more from a 24 year old pitcher than a 27 year old outfielder.
Well.. how good would Volquez..
have to have been to approximate what Ham has already done?

I have very little doubt Hammilton will be worth more this year. I’m not really concerned about this year.
That said, going in to tonight:
Edinson Volquez Pitching VORP: 16.3
Josh Hamilton VORP: 10.7
So, thus far, Volquez has probably contributed more.

yeah.
do you think there would be room for him and boggs.?
or would be forced to pick one of them
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
makes sense
kinda ironic, i saw in the newberg report about boggs it said, (im paraphrasing) “He’s gotten better as hes gained more plate disicipline and his walk rates have increased” but since he’s struck out looking twice in the past two games, at some point shouldn’t you just let loose and swing away?
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
I think I would take
his production so far with a couple of strike outs looking to a free swinger.
Unless the striking out looking becomes a trend, I like what I’ve seen so far from Boggs.
oh yeah
i totally agree, hes surpassed my expectations.
and im sure as he gains more major league experience then he will get a better feel for the strike zone and umpires and general.
just hate to those backwards k’s
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
The Mariners announcers were saying that if Seattle doesn't score much, Baek might stay out the rest of the game to save the bullpen

I see his trade value increasing with every out
pretty exciting for a guy I didn’t expect too much from.
guess that’s what happens though when you sign these wash-out veterans…
buy ‘em for cheap and flip ‘em while they’re hot.
