The Ms announcer just said the Rays will beat the Yankees 4-5 times this year, tops.
Nice guarantee. They’ve done better in the past when they’re not even this good.
Not sure why people are so behind on how much talent the Rays have.
what the hell?
TAG bringin’ the funny? Weird nite, man…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
just making comments while watching the Seattle pen do some stretching exercises
made me chuckle…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
can you imagine
one of these guys as a teacher. that would be a brutal class
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
TAG is the dull math teacher
Lewin is the sub that comes in and tries to be ‘cool’....
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
I'm calling it
Boggs goes deep this AB
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
Max Ramirez
Anyone know why he hasn’t played for 2 games? Frostad caught tonight.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.
He has been on fire
Maybe he burned through all his bats?
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
he's a promising prospect
we have to limit his ABs, obviously…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Well, my hopes for another 30 run game may have been out of place.
I just really like destroying the Mariners.
I like destroying anybody
Some teams I do enjoy seeing destroyed more than others, though. And the M’s are on that list.
"Left the bases loaded for Hamilton."
Huh? I thought it was 3-run, not a slam. Was I not paying attention?
what's his pitch count?
too lazy to look it up myself
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
It's only the 6th
And he’s at 80 pitches. He might get nto the 8th again, but he’d have to have really short inning here to consider going all the way.
Like I said, if he's at 100 or below after 8, send him out
No need to send him out if he’s at like 105… 8 innings is plenty fine and we already have that “no complete game in a year” monkey off the back.
OT: The MLBPA is looking in to anti-Bonds collusion.
Good. I’m not the worlds biggest Bonds fan, but I definitely think something’s up.
In 26 games at 1B,
Broussard has 5 BB. In hist first start at 1B, Cat has 3 BB.

To be fair
The Mariners have been walking people left and right, but I think we can all agree that Brou-ha-ha sucks.
hey knock off all that noise
I’m tryin’ to sleep here..!!
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Still at the computer
I’m just reorganizing my baseball card collection. It’s a project I started during last nights beating, I’m now continuing it during tonight’s blowout.
replying to my own comment
but Cat should be playing only 1B if you ask me. No reason he should be in the outfield.
I like how Salty
stands up and fires it back in there to the pitcher.
Reminds me a little bit of Pudge.
i have a sneaking suspension
that when hank blalock comes back healthy that either he or ramon vasquez will get traded.
what do yall think?
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
yeah. i think as blalock
gets more expensive and his value on this team going forward becomes a bigger question mark, he will eventually get traded. either this year at the break or this offseason,
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
No and no
Not a real big market for Vazquez and you’d still be selling low on Blalock. Vazquez goes back his UT role.

I think a Blalock trade could be great.
I have no idea how likely it would be, but I think it could work out very well.
He wouldn’t be a bad player to keep if he’s interested in platooning down the road, though.
Anywhere.
He could obviously DH and play third, and I have no reason to think he couldn’t at least play first as well.
He’s only 27, and his bat is more than usefull. He also plays a position that’s near the top of the difficulty order, meaning his opportunities for movement are relatively high.
Down the road means in the future, when young players are coming up. It would depend on what positions are solidified.
OK
Not sure I understand. Why does he need to move? What 3B is rushing to take his spot? Metcalf?
If he’s healthy (an if that grows larger every season) his bat plays well enough for 3rd. I don’t see why he needs to move or platoon at all. If you have a better 3rd baseman, you just trade Blalock.

German in the pen
Don’t put him in until the start of next inning… if you put him in with runners on, they will score. :(
Damn, man
WTF is up with the first base umpire?
And where the hell is Ron Washington? He needs to start arguing this crap.
those were both good calls...
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
then they aren't paying attention
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
does arguing
really make and umpire think, ‘Gee, next time there is a close call I’ll give it to the other team?’
Just wondering. It doesn’t seem to work that way in other endeavors.
It puts pressure on the umpire
And lets him know that he’s being criticized. That way, he’ll pay more attention, and hopefully make the correct call next time.
And just like that
It’s all okay again!
I love baseball!!

Of course.
I don’t think you’re going to see Ponson posing like this anytime soon:

by brettgardner on May 6, 2008 11:50 PM CDT up reply actions
that was completely unnecessary
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Gee, thanks Brett
That’s just what I needed to complete my night. Scott Bakula porn.
I think I’m going to have nightmares.
How many starts/wins do you guys expect from Ponson by the end of the year (in a Rangers' jersey)?
"You can't hit what you can't see" - Walter Johnson
wins...
some where between 9 and 11 wins, in 25 starts
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
yeah, I was thinking...
somewhere close to his 04-05 numbers. 20-30 starts with near double digit wins.

I don't think he'll stick in the rotation all season
So I really don’t know. Maybe we can trade him, and get some value if he keeps this up though.
Hmmm...
didn’t get name recognition, but I emailed about BNSF being headquartered in Fort WOrth.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
id say 6 is a reasonable number
but if he keeps pitching like this we are gonna rape someone in a trade
That is the truth.
If Padilla, Ponson, and Millwood (aside from last night) pitch the way they have early on, then the Rangers could drive the market on SP at the deadline.
teams
go crazy for SP’s around mid july too. We could pull off some lopsided deals if we play our cards right.
I wonder what the stats say
about large early leads and whether or not pitchers usually pitch better or get lazy and pitch sloppier.
I liked that Ponson stayed focused and got through 7 with only 1 ER.
He looked really focused
when the M’s got those 3 straight weak hits. He was joking with the guys when he finally got Ibanez out
See what I mean about German?
Started the inning and looked really good… but if you use him as a “fireman,” he sprays napalm on the fire.
Best Case Scenario...
With the possibility of trading away 2 or 3 vets…what can we hope our rotation look like heading into 2009?
"You can't hit what you can't see" - Walter Johnson
Probably not too good.
Part of why I think people talking about contending in 2009 is extremely optimistic.
Good question
Padilla/Millwood (I have a feeling only one of them will be traded)
Gabbard
Hurley
Harrison
McCarthy/Mendoza
I would guess
Millwood
Mathis
Gabbard
Mendoza
Hurley
(there are obviously a ton of other names you could throw in there)
that is so disheartening

Maybe at first glance
Millwood- eats innings and is our “ace”
Mathis- Has had a quality start just about everytime out at AAA and i think has huge upside
Gabbard- was our best pitcher before he went onthe DL
Mendoza- Nasty sinker when he’s healthy, and he wasn’t at all this year
Hurley- The future ace
by texrangers31 on May 6, 2008 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions
Hurley is not a future ace sorry
A #2 or #3 but not a #1.
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
he's the only pitching prospect
that we have in the Baseball america top 100. So than I suppose we have no aces in our system
by texrangers31 on May 6, 2008 11:59 PM CDT up reply actions
I didn't say that
There are several that could develope into a #1 but I just don’t see Hurley being an ace.
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
I wouldn't say that.. But the potential "aces"
are pretty much unknown quantities like Beavan, Main, Feliz, Font, etc.
We do
It’s just most of the ace-types are in the low minors, and haven’t really charted in BA yet. Like Michael Main and, Neftali Feliz to name a couple.
Whatever
You want to call him, if he becomes a guy who can give you quality innings, rest your bullpen and give your offense a chance, he’s going to be better than just about any young guy we’ve brought up in quite some time.
by brettgardner on May 7, 2008 12:01 AM CDT up reply actions
I do agree with that.
I don’t put too much into his start this year. He has a chance to be a solid SP. He could even be the Rangers #1 at some point. But, while he could be the Rangers’ ace, I don’t see him being an actual ace. So, in that case txrangers31, you could very well be right that he is the Rangers’ future ace.
I feel bad for Cat
Good hitter, bad outfielder who got caught in the middle of a really really shitty team.
I like Cat at 1B
With Blalock in, this is the best lineup. He’s no more defensive liability there than Broussard has been this year.
by robert_d_wilfong on May 6, 2008 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions
The writing is on the wall for Ben
With Cat starting tonight. It looks like a Shelton/Cat tandem with Ben the odd man out.
I'd be fine
With Cat taking the vast majority of the starts.

+1
Though I’d still prefer Botts.
I’d rather they give Botts a ton of time to prove he’s not going to ammount to anything than merely playing a veteran. If Botts sucks a lot and the team fails, so what? We’re going to fail anyway.
But, it’s clear the Rangers have made up their minds on Botts, so Cat > Broussard makes me happy.
santana, felix hernandez, clay bucholz, and kevin millwood.
jkjk… um i think that the rotation wont really be that changed
millwood
gabbard
mccarthy
hurley
padilla
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
There's a big used car dealership near here called McCarthy Wholesale
Every time I see the name, I get the ad jingle stuck in my head…
“Hail hail hail hail… the next McCarthy’s car sale…
Hail hail hail hail… the next McCarthy’s car sale…
Get your next set of keys at McCarthy’s”
ball game
franklyn german SLAMS THE DOOR SHUT
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
thats a save in my book
i dont care what those bloggers in there moms basement say..
german is a winner
touchdown... touchdown... and st.micheals takes the lead.
Game over...
And just in the nick of time for me to head downstairs, and watch “Shark”. ‘Night everybody.
I seem
To remember that he had no problem with it.

Of course there is a difference
between signing a guy to a guaranteed major league contract, and to a minor league contract, where you can stick him on the farms for a few months. If they had signed him to a Jason Jennings contract, you probably would have heard some bigtime bitching about Ponson.

I hated it....
and I was absolutely wrong. Watching Ponson pitch right now is great.
Hey JD haters, care to give any love to him for that move?
