Have you seen Vazquez's 'stache?

It’s kind of an ongoing LSB joke. Him and Catalanotto both have rediculous chin hair:

It’s just something we make light of, it’s not some racial bias deal.

AJ Murray

I remember seeing something about him heading back to OKC to make room for Gabbard. I’ll try to find the link.

by LSJ on May 8, 2008 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Here it is:

Link

The Rangers are getting Kason Gabbard back. He is coming off the disabled list on Thursday to pitch against the Mariners. Left-hander A.J. Murray is expected to be sent back to Triple-A Oklahoma on Thursday after making just one start for the Rangers. Murray beat the Athletics, 6-3, on Saturday while allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Laird against the righthander, when we faced a lefty last night.

I understand it’s 2 days on, 2 days off, but you might as well play Salty.

Maybe they want him catching Gabbard over Salty?

by cmkelly29 on May 8, 2008 8:43 PM CDT reply actions

I think

they have switched to a 1 on 1 off because Millwood is throwing Saturday. Salty should get the start tomorrow. But, who knows for sure. LOL

We’re working the catching platoons based on who’s pitching for us instead of who’s pitching for them. Can’t say that I personally have a problem with it, if it’s going to result in better ERAs.

They are looking a lot more patient at the plate, are working the counts, and seeing it actually pay off. Pretty much the only difference is that they are having better luck with RISP.

by SarasotaRanger on May 8, 2008 9:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Gabbard being Gabbard

He won’t strike out a ton and he won’t have an outstanding WHIP, but a guy who never lets a ball leave the IF will have a lot of success as a Major League pitcher.

by Gdawg on May 8, 2008 9:30 PM CDT reply actions

+1

who was it Gabbards first start who kept saying the double plays he induced were luck?

by bigsteve on May 8, 2008 9:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Gabbard

If he doesn’t start K-ing a few more guys, and walking a few less, he’s not likely to continue to have success.

by Adam J. Morris on May 8, 2008 9:31 PM CDT up reply actions

walks

those bother me a little but you can’t be serious Adam can you?

by bigsteve on May 8, 2008 9:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Absolutely

He’s walked 9 guys and struck out 8 in 20 innings so far this year…you can’t do that and have success.

Just ask Damian Moss.

by Adam J. Morris on May 8, 2008 9:34 PM CDT up reply actions

OK

but if you can consistantly induce groundballs those walks won’t hurt you as much generally. I don’t like them either but I would rather have a groundball pitcher giving up walks than a flyball/line drive pitcher

by bigsteve on May 8, 2008 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

unless

you are great at getting double plays

I'd like to see his peripherals there improve a bit

but its hard for a team to hit singles through the IF enough to really hurt you. As long as he keeps the ball down, I don’t see why he wouldn’t be able to continue having success.

According to the Rangers' website...

...Metcalf has been activated just as an emergency option. He basically hasn’t played since going on the d.l., and will go back down after Byrd is ready to be activated. He’s just activated so the Rangers have a backup infielder while Young is hurting.

You’ve got Hamilton, Bradley, Murphy, Boggs, and Byrd (when he’s activated) all vying for time.

Arias?

Is he that hurt still that he couldn’t be that emergency option? I mean activate Metcalf and immediately option him and bring Arias up. If its just for a couple days why not

gabbard threw inside on Sexson

Sexson charges the mound and throws his helmet at Gabbard. Dugouts clear. Felix Hernandez came out pissed off and Guardado calmed him down. Bradley also pushed Laird off the field yelling at him, I guess he was telling him not to get suspended. TAG just ripped Sexson a new one saying,

He threw his helmet at him then tackled him to the ground.

P.O.S.

Suspend his ass. I wish Nolan was near the field to give him a taste of his fist.

I also noticed on that last replay

that Gabbard’s knee locked up for a moment as Sexson jumped on him, and then buckled under the weight. I wonder if he didn’t hurt his knee due to that.

I also wonder if having both Sexson on you and Laird on top of Sexson didn’t aggravate his back.

by jwiscarson on May 8, 2008 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

jumped on top of him

Laird had to put him in a headlock to get him off

If Gabbard is hurt

Sexson should be suspended for a month

hahaha that was a hoot!

Milton Bradley was going ballistic on Laird. I thought they were going to get into it.

Sexson

Sexson has at least 10 games coming on that. I doubt Felix misses more than a start.

That is horrible....Sexson can't hit

so he throws a helmet and re injures Kason. No reason and MLB better crack down here or Padilla will do it for them.

by SaltyDawg on May 8, 2008 10:44 PM CDT reply actions

I wish Padilla was pitching tomorrow against the Mariners

Call back Murray telling him he is going to come in early after Padilla beans Ichiro and Ibanez in the head. We’ll see how well the Mariners are able to play when they have their top 2 with concussions.

Looking back at it now

That has to be some of the dirtiest crap I’ve seen on a baseball field in a long time.

by Gdawg on May 8, 2008 10:45 PM CDT reply actions

Sexson just got a rep as a cheap pansy

and he deserves it. I wish Padilla, German, or Francisco would have been out there…Sexson wouldn’t have to worry about suspensions cause he would have been hurt for at least the 10 games.

by SaltyDawg on May 8, 2008 10:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Sexson was lookin' to start something

After two Ranger batters were hit, the M’s were maybe expecting retaliation… so Sexson went apeshit for no fucking reason...

I don’t mind pitchers retaliating or the occasional brawl, but what Sexson did was so remarkably stupid and shitty…

I hope he sits for a long time.

At this point, we come out looking like saints if we do nothing.

Hey, I'm pissed too

but at this point, we aren’t a great team and we don’t really need to do more roster shuffling.

Ok, so hockey players get arrested for using their stick as a weapon...

Theoretically, could sexson be arrested for assault because he deliberately threw the helmet with the intent to injure?

that would be absolutely hilarious.

by Garcia on May 8, 2008 10:45 PM CDT reply actions

They might as well

arrest him for theft since he’s stealing millions of dollars each year with that contract.

What a hero

He threw his helmet at a guy half his size for a pitch that was nowhere near close to hitting him.
