Minors Update??
I hope that asshat Jayslick did not ruin the minor updates for everybody else. But keep on making them, if only because I get alot of use out of them.
Anyways uh..Feliz looks to be dealing, and Harrison is perfect through 1.
Mayberry has gone yard. MaxRam and Andrus both have singles. Chris Davis had two on but he struck out swinging.
Has MaxRam passed up Teagarden in the pecking order of catchers for anyone? Teagarden having bit of a slow start.

Minors
Really nice to see Feliz doing well again. As I asked a start or two ago does anyone think there is a chance this kid sees Bakersfield by the end of the year?
As for the catching, I think Teagarden is showing last year was more of an abberation. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. When he was drafted the big question mark was his bat. As long as he keeps his defense up to major league quality he will make the bigs. I still think Ramirez’ eventual position may be DH but its too early to take him out of the field.

Harrison
Was he on a strict pitch count tonight? He got pulled after only 4.1 innings and 70 pitches while only giving up 1 run

Probably.

you know who's good
Max Ramirez. He could hit in a big league line up right now. 3-4 tonight with a walk, a double, and a HR (his 8th on the year). He has to be the most complete hitter in our system.

Completely agree
Maximiliano will be hitting in Arlington by September.
Eventual 20-25 HR power with a high OBP%. I can envision a Milton Bradley-esque offensive output with the potential to stick behind the plate although I think his future is in LF or as a DH.
Just think: 2009 Line-up
1. 2B Ian Kinsler
2. 3B Michael Young
3. CF Josh Hamilton
4. RF Milton Bradley
5. C Jarrod Saltalamacca
6. 1B Chris Davis
7. LF Brandon Boggs/David Murphy
8. DH Maximiliano Ramirez
9. SS Elvis Andrus

I agree with
everything you guys said, except that I don’t think that Ramirez has enough mobility to handle LF, especially for the Rangers in their park and all.
But for anyone who hasn’t paid close enough attention, after tonight he’s hitting .398/.480/.722 after 30 games in AA. Way too many pundits have slept on his bat because of his defensive question marks.

Am I the only one
who thinks 2009 is too soon for Andrus, at least as it stands right now? I’d give him until at least August or Sept. of 2009, and maybe hold off until sometime early in 2010. I don’t want them to rush this kid, he’s got a ways to go.

Concur...
the kid isn’t even 20 years old until August. I’d say Sept. ‘9 would be the soonest the Rangers would consider bringing him up.

Borbon
2-2 so far tonight. If he keeps it up I could see a June 1 promotion to Frisco
by bigsteve on May 8, 2008 9:56 PM CDT 0 recs
This is really good
and someone has probably mentioned it, but while he’s hitting for absolutely no power, defensive whiz Manuel Pena has his average up to .289. He has a ten game hitting streak and his hitting over .400 in that stretch.

I knew
you’d notice that. He’s hitting .447 in his last 10 games. He might be a viable backup after all, put him out there against lefties.

he finished 3-4
with a double. he is up to .321 on the year. i am sure the Rangers would love to be able to get him up to Frisco before too long. He is the one prospect they have a little incentive to rush.

Max
Is Max the best hitter this system has had in its system since Tex? I agree with JParks’s projection of him at 20-25HR with a good OBP, but I think he ends up at DH. A good K/BB rate in the minors often translates well into the pros. I’m a little worried about Davis though. He is still striking out too much. Is he Adam Dunn with a little better average, little less power, and no walks?

I'm not encouraged
by what I’ve seen from Davis this year (in numbers or watching his approach). That may be a little unfair because it’s based partly on a really steep development curve so far in his career, but a 9/36 BB/SO ratio when he already had 30 games of AA experience under his belt is disappointing. He’s still hitting and hitting for power, but I would be surprised if he could be a major league regular without making pretty miraculous strides in his plate control. And that’s a lot easier said than done.
And again, he can still easily be a good player, but this is a big weakness that is not improving at this point. His BB/SO ratio over the same amount of games last year for Frisco was 13/27.

Davis
I that that unless he struggles and really has an incentive to change his approach, you’re not going to see much more from Davis than you’re seeing now. This is part of the reason I’d like to see him get some time in AAA and soon. If he struggles, it might help him realize that he can’t keep chasing pitches at the rate he’s chasing them and do well in the high minors/majors.

I fear you're right
I was really hoping he would improve the plate discipline, especially since he stated that was a major goal of his. If he doesn’t change he’ll be both thrilling and frustrating to watch, often in the same evening.

Maybe Ramirez
should move up to OKC and start getting some innings at 1B. That would get Davis’ attention.

Ramirez/Teixeira
Prior to this current group I think that the best hitters developed in this organization since Teixeira are Ian Kinsler and Adrian Gonzalez (if you are willing to count Gonzalez). Gonzalez is a better hitter than Kinsler, and I think the Ramirez could be in his range. You might expect Ramirez to get on base more (Gonzalez has a career 344 OBP), and since Gonzalez has his career SLG quickly approaching 500, we might have to wait and see if Ramirez actually duplicates his power. But I think they’re generally a decent comparison and that he’s probably the only guy since Teixeira that I’d be hesitant to think that Ramirez could match or surpass offensively. You’d like to think that the same things could be said about Saltalamacchia, of course.

AGon
The dumbest thing this organization ever did was not force Teixeira to play outfield so that they could keep both him and Gonzalez. (and yes, AGon’s glove is as good or better than Tex’s at first)
The thing to remember about AGon as opposed to any other guys who came up as Rangers is that his numbers, which are good, are extremely deflated by playing at Petco. He’s a beast at the plate, yet he’s not such a power hitter that he can overcome that ballpark.

Away: .295 .358 .570
2008 stats

If MaxRam can hit anything near AGon, we’ll have a superstar on our hands.

Teixeira
They had already forced him to move to 1B because Blalock was ahead of him and you want them to force him to the outfield? You can’t do that with a guy if you ever have any hope of keeping him around. Which at the time of the SD trade they did think they could keep him around.

It would be depressing...
to see us leak C talent like a sieve the same way we did while Tex was here… Hafner, AGon, etc.
