Richie Sexson
What a damned joke. Should get 20 games for that bush league crap. He basically charged the mound for a ball that he would have been out on if it had hit him.
Wow. That wasn't even close to Sexson.
You’ve got to think he’ll get a significant suspension on that.
That's more than just a normal brawl too
He didn’t get hit by a pitch and it wasn’t even close. Add onto that the size difference, the helmet throw, and Gabbard possibly re-injuring himself and the league better crack down on his ass.
don't care about the Mariners
they suck either way. A huge suspension takes money away from Sexson. Its like a dumbass tax
I hear
there is a first baseman available if they need one for a few weeks. I think they are familiar with him. Maybe they would give up a minor league utility guy to get him.
by badradiorules on May 8, 2008 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions
What's the point?
Selig will hand out some half-ass suspension, the MLBPA will successfully appeal for it to be reduced, and he’ll end up with five games off.
This is because suspensions in Major League Baseball are a joke.
I keep thinking
boy, are McLaren and Felix going to look stupid when they get a better look at the pitch Sexson charged on.
i still havnt gone back and really watched the brawl
too busy posting.
ive got to go check out this bradley/laird thing and various other facets.
Gerald Laird is my hero.
laird/bradley
Bradley was basically pushing laird back across the diamond. He was really pushing into him and looked a little annoyed. The only thing I’d say is that Bradley was trying to make sure that the catcher didn’t get tossed for someone else being a set of f’n clown shoes.
Bradley gets
a +1 from me. I don’t care what has been said about him before, the guy has been nothing but great in every possible way here for the Rangers.
I actually really liked seeing that from Bradley
he has really matured the last few years…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Felix isn't a complete moron
Bradley would literally tear his arm off and feed it to his children.
Felix still out there
he’s only out there to throw at someone… no other reason he’s still on the mound at this point.
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
I need a place...
too watch it on the internet.
I was in my car listening to it on the radio.
someone show me the way.
go to the gameday thing
through www.texasrangers.com
click on the video tab at the top right where it has the boxscore
that should work for you
you can’t see the whole thing, but you can see the pitch and then him charge the mound
2008 Fightin' Texas Aggie Baseball and Softball CWS bound
Bradley should just fake a charge
to the mound on a pitch outside
Those guys at Lookout Landing
Are effing ridiculous jackasses.
I have never been prouder to be a Rangers fan than after reading tonight’s postings after seeing that.

Were the radio guys livid about this?
I would love to hear the radio feed of this too, if anyone by chance has the audio.
Eric and Victor where pretty livid
But they where a little more subdued than what I heard TAG and Josh where. I think they where more stunned than anything.
They got their licks in on Sexson and the Mariners, but nothing like what TAG is being quoted on.
OK . . .
I’m not watching the game – just saw the replay on gameday. From the description, I didn’t realize that Sexson was that close when he threw the helmet and hit Gabbard so squarely. That could draw an unprecedented suspension, maybe 20-50 games. I’ve never seen anything like that in the majors.

the highlight is on gameday

and the mariners announcers actual defend the action.
Gerald Laird is my hero.
Then they are stupid homers
Sexson charged the mound on a ball 2 or so feet away from him. Tossed the helmet about 3/4 of the way to the mound and then attacked someone who was trying to protect themselves.
the real joke would be
if the MLB suspends Gabbard or Laird for some reason.
Thanks for the link.
Holy hell that was the most unobjectionable pitch to charge the mound I could ever imagine!!!!!!!! How can that action be defended? I wish Frankie Frank had dished out some more vigilante justice with his chair!

Watching Extra Innings and got the Seattle announce crew
Could they be any dumber? They’re defending it, they’re proud of the fact, they overreacted on “how close the pitch was to his head”, they practically fucking gloated when Gabbard had to leave the game…
It’s god damn sickening.
if they were
celebrating an injury they are even weaker than Sexson.
They didn't come out and say it
But the tone of their voice definitely said “Well if he didn’t want to leave the game he shouldn’t have thrown at Sexson’s head” (why they are STILL going on and on about that when it was 2 feet away I will never know).
I don’t know if I’ve ever heard announcers as homer-retarded as these.
What part of that isn't true?
Are you saying th Seattle announcers aren’t talking about that?
I’m not watching the feed, so I genuinely have no idea.
That's good to know.
I think we’re all a bit pissed about this situation over here because our team’s so injury-ridden and Gabbard’s one of our few effective pitchers.
Boggs should have charged the mound
After singling off Queen Felix. Its about as warranted as what Sexson did.
omg
i’m so livid still….i can’t wait to see the replay on tv. sexson’a a little bitch ..
just got ownaged
If you piss off Tom Grieve to that extent
you know you’ve done something bad.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.
Sexson
You guys are going a bit overboard with the suspension predictions.]
He’ll get like 1-3 games. The league is dumb, we’re the Rangers, and it’s Kason Gabbard.
If it was Josh Beckett out there and it was in Boston, whoooooo boy.
no way
the helmet throw from five feet is going to cost him.
by Randy Richardson on May 8, 2008 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions
No, it's really not.
At the most it “costs” him 2 extra games. Sexson doesn’t have a history of idiocy (correct me if I’m wrong).
It was a helmet
I don’t have enough faith in this league to suspend him for any more than 3 games.
No what should cost him is simple
He charged the mound at a point in time that there was ZERO reason to charge the mound. The ball wasn’t near him. His team had hit 2 batters already in the game. I think he needs a suspension because theres no reason at all for him to charge the mound.
I'd be willing to bet
it’s at least 10 games.
by Randy Richardson on May 8, 2008 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions
Dude
If it’s 10 games, I will ride the DART train from Plano to Dallas naked.
OK
Throwing the helmet was way beyond the bounds of fair play. Charging the mound, even if the pitch wasn’t close is no big deal, 1-3 games. But throwing the helmet at such close range is going to be punished.

Gameday one had the M’s announcers
The Mariners' broadcasters and fans' defending this
is akin to if Grieve, Nadell, and Ranger fans had condoned Franky throwing chairs. It may not be as bad…but you have to be blind not to see how pathetic it was.
There was some reasoning behind that
Those A’s fans were talking some way too personal crap to Brocail. What’s Sexson’s excuse? Gabbard did his job by pitching a baseball?
I almost didn't post it b.c. I agree with that...
But the action is what I am talking about…the action was dumb and pathetic just like Sexson
Agreed 100%
I think what was being said is at least Franky had a legit reason to be mad…Sexson had none AND still did something stupid.
Umm, no
There is absolutely no excuse for throwing a chair at a fan.
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.
Agreed 100%
I think what was being said is at least Franky had a legit reason to be mad…Sexson had none AND still did something stupid.
The rumor has always been
that the fans were heckling Brocail for his wife delivering a stillborn child.
I don’t know if that’s true or not. Perhaps it’s not.
mariners broadcasters
still saying gabbard threw at sexson’s head, convinced it was on purpose. they really need to look at a replay.
Rare Gnats Sex
Then Gabbard
is the worst pitcher in the MLB. If you can’t get a ball closer than 2 feet to a batter you better be in the minors.
It doesn't matter if he is good or not
He has been struggling with the fastball command the entire game, and there is no way he is trying to throw at Sexson. Frustration aside, you need a cooler head in this situation. Sexson charged out there to hurt the guy; there is no excuse.
M's color commentator:
“I don’t think there’s any doubt he was trying to hit Richie. Kinsler wasn’t happy about that pitch from Felix.”
That’s just blind idiocy.

That means hes old
And if hes going for that as a reason to charge the mound he needs to go and retire.
The game in which
Sexson was justified in charging the mound.
all i was saying
is that they obviously weren’t watching this one, because they seem to think that Sexson was justified at charging the mound on a pitch over the plate.
That pitch by Franklyn was more of a reason to charge
Mariners’ broadcasters are trying to challenge Sexson for the Seattle Stupidity Crown
I really hate
the M’s and their fans.
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
2 reasons:
1. Ensure Sexson AND Hernandez are dealt with as strictly as possible.
2. I doubt Gabbard was in the frame of mind to continue pitching.
It's certainly possible.
He could have been infected with Sexson’s acute pussitis when the helmet tossing coward fell on him. Hopefully there’s some penicillin in the training room.

Sexson’s wife zing
I take that back, I shouldn’t take my anger at his wife. Its not her fault she married a guy who was born without a pair
Per Rotoworld:
Richie Sexson was ejected from Thursday’s game for charging the mound versus the Rangers’ Kason Gabbard.Felix Hernandez had hit two batters, so Sexson sensed it was retaliatory when Gabbard buzzed him in the fourth, even if the pitch wasn’t all that close to hitting him. He was the only player tossed as a result of the incident, though Gabbard was removed soon thereafter. Sexson, who threw his helmet at Gabbard, likely will face a four- or five-game suspension
He’d better get more than 5 games…
Ya....That's Real Mature.
we probably are
but in this case our set of homerism is a lot closer to reality than theirs.
I honestly think
we’re better than a lot of fans at being realistic. Our team’s sucked so much that we HAVE to be realistic!

Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
Basically just said that the Mariners guys
think that the pitch was aimed at Sexson and throwing a helmet isn’t a big deal.
well its now the story
of the game unfortunately, not Gabbard going for an extended shutout. Before long it may well be about Gabbard going back to the DL for an injury cuased by Sexson.

So Gabbard didn't get tossed?
Why would anybody even say that he threw at him if he didn’t even get ejected?
if he actually hit him and a brawl happened
He would get ejected. If he didn’t and there didn’t appear to be any intent, he would get the warning like everyone else.
TAG is still at it
Gotta think hes not going to let this one go for a while.
Shelton pinch-hitting?
I know we’re up by 5, but why? Just.. no.

didn't even notice
brawl has messed with my focus…

well if your position is
that Sexson was justified in charging the mound, then of course your not cause replays are going to show him charging the mound on a high ball over the plate and then tossing his helmet.
Why would they?
If they show a replay they would know what really happened
"My death certificate will probably say: 'Cause of Death: World Series.'" Jamey Newberg
That's because it would reveal how wrong they where
They’re busy trying to edit it, to make it look like Gabbard actually did something wrong.
That's because this fad called replay hasn't made it's way to Seattle yet...
they’re still getting used to this new fangled idea of the internet too.

Some of the M's fans are acting like jackasses
But you know, there are STILL Rangers fans defending Frankie Francisco throwing a chair into the stands.
That was indefensible
no matter how you slice it. However… that fan hit with the chair was not scheduled to pitch every 5th day.

It doesn't matter
Neither action is excusable, regardless if the “victim” is a baseball player or not.
Nope, they're not
and the chair toss was definitely worse. I’m saying this sucks because this could adversely affect our team down the road where the other incident didn’t affect anyone but team tossing the chair. In essence, they fucked us and better pay a price from the league.

i think
the dude was insulting Brocails children. Would piss me off too. Still I don’t think I’d physically assault someone for it.
I'm pretty sure...
I remember reading that the Rangers bullpen guys kept asking security to do something and they never did anything. They also asked for extra security due to earlier events in the series and none were given either.

I'll take your word for it.
I wasn’t paying attention to baseball at that point in the season and seeing the highlights on sportscenter made me tune out bigtime.
Is "pussy" really a race?
Oh … you’re talking about Franky Frank’s deal. My bad.
that was lame also
I mean keep it in your pants. Yes I’m sure Craig Bueno was being an asshat, but why throw the chair and go into the stands.
as I said in the other thread
At least there was some reason for that fight to have happened. Was it a good enough reason to throw a chair into the stands? No, but it wasn’t anything like Sexson who charged the mound because a pitcher decided to do his job and throw a pitch over the plate.
Franky just lost his head
Sexson was looking for any reason to charge the mound. Looked premeditated.
The two unlikeliest things to happen in a baseball game
A tool threw a helmet at a SP for no reason and Shelton got a hit.
Lost in all of this
Hammy’s in his first real slump as a Ranger.
Granted
He did just go against Bedard and Felix
Yet he still leads MLB wit most RBI's
He will be just fine.

even in the midst of his slumnp
he managed to hit a 3 run HR. But he has been in a slump for an extended period now.

Would love to see the Rangers
close this one out with a shutout.

Heres hoping the Gabbard injury
doesn’t hamstring our BP for a week.
i doubt it they have been pretty rested as of late

5 innings
is still a pretty bad load to have to roll in a game in which it looked like your starter was ready to go 6+
The problem is
it removes the ability to easily soak up a bad outting for a few days. So what happens if Feldman gets lit tomorrow. Then the BP will have been very stressed.
Hopefully I’m worrying about nothing.
Fight transcript
Here ya go guys. Took a little while but heres the audio transcript from when Sexson walked to the plate to when Gabbard started pitching again
Seattle with 2 out nobody on Sexson comes to plate
JL: Inside and there goes Sexson. (Sexson throws helmet like a little girl) With a helmet throw…come on
TAG: That ball wasn’t even close
(about 15 seconds of silence while players wrestle around on the field)
JL: He went out there and played dodgeball with the helmet
TAG: Where did that come from?
JL: Lot of pointing. Lot of gesturing.Lot of pushing and shoving. And a lot of question as to what the heck Richie Sexson is doing out at the mound. Not to mention Felix Hernandez stirring it up now. Eddie Guardado trying to play peacemaker. The former Mariner and a guy that helped Hernandez break in.
TAG: You know the thing that is hard to understand in this game is Hernandez is the guy thats drilled two guys. He drilled Laird, he drilled Kinsler. That pitch to Sexson wasn’t even close to hitting him. I guess when you are hitting .209 and can’t drive in any runs you are going to try and take it out on the pitcher…...........................I have no idea what Sexson was thinking though.
JL: The 2 out HBP. Felix Hernandez had hit Kinsler with two out in the bo…top of the 4th inning.
TAG: Thats just thats just a great example of a team thats struggling, a team that can’t score runs, trying to stir it up, trying to get some emotion into their performance.
JL: Well now Laird in the middle of it too. Milton Bradley picks up Laird and is actually him across the foul line (cut to shot of Milton pushing Laird repeatedly)
TAG: I have no idea where thats coming from
JL: Laird was trying to get back at Sexson it would appear after it had kinda died down. Milton Bradley of all people, remember he was tackled by his own manager last year and had his whole season ruined.
TAG: Thats just thats just frustration by a team thats getting beaten.
JL: There is a lot more Rangers versus Mariners baseball here in 2008 and Richie Sexson…
TAG: You would ….
JL…...has just detonated stuff here
TAG:....you would think it was the Mariners that were getting drilled tonight. Its Hernandez thats drilled the Rangers.
Heres where it starts to get good
JL: Well now…
TAG: I mean if ya if Kason Gabbards gonna hit anybody hes gonna hit one of their good hitters. Hes not gonna hit Richie Sexson.
JL: Sexsons obviously been ejected
TAG: You got a chance to hit Ibanez, you got a chance to hit Beltre two good hitters. You got a guy coming up there who can’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. And you think hes gonna throw at HIM?
JL: You know heres the interesting part of all this. Obviously Sexsons gone he charged the mound. Gabbard just stood there and absorbed a helmet
TAG: I think I think hes gotta be SHOCKED the guy charged him. I don’t I don’t I think if Sexson didn’t even move the ball wouldn’t have hit him.
JL: There were no warnings folowing the Kinsler hit by pitch. And I just I gotta assume Gabbard, well here lets check it out.
(replay shows pitch high but right down the middle almost)
TAG:THAT PITCH WASN’T EVEN CLOSE.THAT THAT PITCH IS A FOOT AWAY FROM HIM
JL: Gabbard is stunned
TAG Boy that is a gutless 6’7” .200 hitting formerly good player. What a joke.
JL: Then you got Laird all crumpled and twisted in there. That could have led to who knows what in terms of injuries.
TAG: Ehhhh theres no excuse, if that pitch was two feet lower it would be a strike.
JL: Tom I think what you initially said is dead on. Heres a guy just trying to stir something up and looking for any excuse to get it done.
TAG: I think I think he went up to the plate and he said “this is what I gotta do”. “we can’t score”...
JL: Yup…
TAG…”I gotta try and get some emotion back in the team”. But its such an irresponsible thing to do. Ya risk a number of people getting hurt. Kason Gabbard didn’t do anything. He wasn’t throwing at him. That ball wouldn’t have even hit him.
JL: Well at least wait until a pitch at least comes within 7 or 8 inches of you before going out ther.
TAG: Thats a joke
JL: And again what the umpires have to discuss now is who goes where in terms of staying in this game or being ejected from this game. I’ll be honest with ya TAG I just assumed that ball hit Sexson when he charged because im thinking..obviously thats why hes running out there.
TAG:Well I didn’t assume it hit him I saw the pitch it wasn’t even close it was a foot away from his head.
JL: Well I mean I was assuming I just saw it wrong it doesn’t compute. Theres no reason otherwise to even think about going out there:
TAG: I think he had it in his mind he was going to do it before he ever came to the plate. I think when Richie Sexson sees the replay of that pitch hes gonna be embarrassed.
JL: I would agree with that
TAG: And hes gotta be embarrassed for runnning out toward the pitcher and throwing the helmet at him.
JL: Well ya its one thing…
TAG: You wanna go out and fight…fight. Throw a helmet at a guy? I mean whats the difference between throwning a helmet and taking a bat swinging it at somebody.
(tracker pops up and shows the Sexson pitch is high but right down the middle of the plate)
JL: That 4th pitch of the at bat. Thats where it registered on the tracker. It was high. But it sure didn’t look like it was in.
TAG: He didn’t see 4 pitches though that was the first pitch to Sexson. That had to be someone else.
JL: Well yeah I think you are right I think that was the 4th pitch of the inning. Yeah that would make sense cause Ibanez was up for a couple and Beltre…
TAG: Where that pitch was it was definately high but if Sexson never moved his head the ball is a foot away from his head. Ya see him move back. The pitch is probably over the plate just 3 feet high. Hes ducking out of the way of a pitch that wouldn’t even have hit him.
JL: Gabbard is stunned here
TAG: Ya throw the helmet at him. You talk about a gutless move.
JL: Well again what happens here is Gerald Laird is in a position now where he could get hurt and theres no reason for all that to be happening in the first place
TAG: Nobody should be in that position on that pitch. Hes not even dreaming of throwing at him after two Rangers get drilled.
JL: Well and as you said TAG. I thought the interesting kinda sidebar to all that was the guy most upset about all that was Felix Hernandez. A guy that actually hit two Rangers
TAG: You know what hes upset about. Hes gotten bombed his last three times out there. The Yankees got 12 hits off him and the Rangers have 5 hits and 4 runs against him. Hes getting beat thats what hes upset about.
JL: Miguel Cairo is gonna come up and inherit a 1-0 count. And this will make for some interesting discussion after the game for sure. Richie Sexson is gonna have to answer to the commisioners office about that thats for sure
TAG: If he doesn’t get suspended for a week for that gutless move i’ll be shocked. #1 for charging the mound on a pitch that wasn’t even close. And then for getting 20 feet away and throwing the helmet at him like a girl. What a joke. Not to denegrate girls I don’t think girls would even do that.
Thats where it returns to baseball. TAG has a couple more decent quips but frankly I am way too tired to go through it. Hope yall enjoy
