Yeah...

any way we could maybe start new threads earlier than 500 comments. It really starts to take a beating if you click wrong and have to reload the page from scratch.

You know what offends my sensibilities

more than someone posting a picture of balls and Richie Sexson acting like an ass? The fact that a major league team would actually DH Jose Lopez…and bat him second.

the balls thing

i’m glad that guy is going to get banned and everything but that was kind of funny when it happened. kind of unexpected. still, he should be banned. I don’t want to have to deal with that again.

continuing a discussion back in the last thread

We also have Murray in the bullpen ready to go as a long-man if needed and he can be optioned back down to Oklahoma if we need a spare pitcher for a day.

True

I love that picture

First off it looks like Franky is badly photoshopped in

Second, there’s a chick in the top right hand corner that’s really amused by all of it.

you at least knew he was senile or something. Stuart Scott there was just no excuse for. He single handedly turned Sportscenter from a sports reporting show to a “Let’s see who can shout the loudest to a home run call” contest.

I grew up reading comics

as a kid and watched crap like Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, so for me that one was pure greatness. They didn’t really try selling the movie to any demographic and just stayed true to the character and the original concept.

by WhipSmart on May 9, 2008 12:11 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

My top 5

Batman Begins
Batman
Batman Returns
Iron Man
Superman (the original)

I can’t pick a best out of those, but those are 5 great super-hero movies.

by Gdawg on May 9, 2008 12:11 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I also

thought the first two XMen and Spiderman movies were very good.

by ab03 on May 9, 2008 12:16 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I thought as far as comic movies

Batman Begins was a better flick. Really looking forward to Dark Knight.

by JayK on May 9, 2008 12:10 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

the reason it was so good

was because it wasn’t like a true comic movie remake. It was very dark.

by geetar85 on May 9, 2008 12:11 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that's because its batman

that’s what its supposed to be. Katie Holmes brought it down a bit. Still, Tim Burton did great with the first 2 Batman movies. Just a different type of dark style as well as not having as much to work with special effects wise

by Gdawg on May 9, 2008 12:13 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Katie Holmes

was enough of a pain they decided to recast her character in the middle of a series. That says something doesn’t it?

by JayK on May 9, 2008 12:14 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed.

Christian Bale goes to badass camp.

Liam Neeson

Was pretty cool, too. Pretty much the whole thing where he’s at badass camp is fun.

by brettgardner on May 9, 2008 12:17 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm thinking about it

And I can’t think of a single Liam Neeson movie that I’ve seen where he hasn’t been awesome.

by Gdawg on May 9, 2008 12:18 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

KRULL

but even in that, he was still pretty cool… just not awesome

by WhipSmart on May 9, 2008 12:19 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Really?

I have never understood the love of Begins. I put it below the first 3 myself.

I love Batman and everything, but all the pop-Freud ass-grabbing that goes on about how dark the character is gives me tiredhead.

by WhipSmart on May 9, 2008 12:18 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hmm

Well we have a difference then. I liked Kilmer a lot more than Bale. The shittier writing wasn’t his fault.

by brettgardner on May 9, 2008 12:18 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Worse than Batman and Robin

And that is saying something. That movie was terrible to a whole new level.

by Gdawg on May 9, 2008 12:19 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh come on

Nothing is worse than Batman and Robin. Nothing.

by brettgardner on May 9, 2008 12:20 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

at least batman and robin had a point

Two Face acted like the Joker, the Riddler made a box you put on your TV that would brainwash you. Please, that is corny as hell and just BS in the Batman world.

by Gdawg on May 9, 2008 12:23 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well

I did hate the bastardization of Two-Face.

by brettgardner on May 9, 2008 12:24 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Was the absolute stupid circular logic of the League of Shadows. You could drive a truck through some of the plot holes.

by venturafearsnolan on May 9, 2008 12:21 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

actually, it was the weapon used at the end that bothered me

it had enough power to blow up the pipes all over the city, but not the water in the bodies of everyone around it?

by WhipSmart on May 9, 2008 12:25 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah

that was the one part that slightly unrealistic (as far as seeing some of that stuff actually be created). But whatever, it was supposed to be a weapon so just assume that they perfected it to not blow up the water in your body.

by Gdawg on May 9, 2008 12:26 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Aren't the Rangers

the hottest team in baseball right now?

Isn’t it 9 of the last 13 or so?

since they were 7-16, they have gone 9-4.

BTW

The douche that posted the nut picture has been banned from LOL and, I’m sure all of SB Nation. Evidently, he opened the account tonight and that was his first post. Fucking little racist clit that he is. I hope he goes on a beer run tonight and gets pulled over for a DWI.

I'm still unclear on this

Was the douche a just a sorry excuse for a Ranger fan, or a Mariner troll?

he’s a total assclown.

Yes

Jeff posted that he was banned and everyone was on board with it. The guy had another screen name on LL.

Definite troll

I’ve gotta admit, I giggled at the picture, but the post was way over any and all lines.

I didn't really find it amusing at all

I was too shocked that someone had bad enough taste to pull a stunt like that.

by lonestarJon on May 9, 2008 12:31 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Mariner troll.

And I’ll hope that you’ll accept my apologies and believe me when I say that he, in no way, represents the LL community.

by acblue on May 9, 2008 12:54 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just speaking for myself,

why should I be insulted or offended by a picture of testicles? After enjoying the LL site and Jeff’s well written post, I was offended by his Bissinger-esque rant against the LSB community. One would expect better from the “manager” of another SBNation site.

by Randy Richardson on May 9, 2008 1:45 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was actually apologizing more for the racism.

I don’t really want to get involved in a blog war. I can’t speak for Jeff, but he’s had to put up with a lot of BS lately, and the LSB trolls were pretty bad. I think his post was warranted, but whatever, that’s my $.02.

I was mainly interested in making sure that everyone was aware that this guy had nothing to do with LL; people that pull crap like that get dealt with pretty quick. No one has to accept my apology of give a rusty fuck what I say.

I like reading LSB, and I’d rather there not be unnecessarily harsh feelings between y’all and folks from LL. That’s all.

by acblue on May 9, 2008 2:22 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

so one guy comes over here

and it has nothing to do with the blog and should just be ignored.

one guy goes over there, and the manager of the site calling everyone on this site idiots is warranted.

k.

Gerald Laird is my hero.

by DSheppard on May 9, 2008 2:31 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It was several with accounts in longer standing. But that's not my point.

So forget I said anything about Jeff’s post.

I am sorry that some guy with a LL derived SBN account came over here and made an inappropriate post. The only reason I commented was to make sure people were aware that no one on the LL side of things was condoning it.

by acblue on May 9, 2008 2:39 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bad analogy.

There were around 4-5 guys from your site who obviously are somewhat regulars. We don’t even know if the guy who came over here was actually a mariner fan.

by redwolf75 on May 9, 2008 9:23 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I haven't read all of the "trolling"

comments and I’m sure that there were plenty that were inappropriate. It seems clear that the universal login (or whatever it’s called) won’t last the entire season. But, Jeff is grownup enough to be able to realize that “trollers” represent a small minority of any community. He was way out of line.

by Randy Richardson on May 9, 2008 2:38 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

On one point we definitely agree. Universal login is doomed to fail.

In a world without idiots, universal login seems like a great idea, but that’s quite obviously not the world we live in. I’m terrified to see what happens to game threads on Field Gulls once the NFL season starts.

by acblue on May 9, 2008 2:50 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

universal login

this trolling crap is the type of stuff i was worried about. I dont mind the occasional fan of the other team such as yourself and some others who have come here having a few intelligent posts, but the blatant trolling has got to go.

"When we're mad we'll use our words. Then the rest of the world will play nice with us. And the only boom-booms will be in our pants." - Ralph Wiggum

by rentz on May 9, 2008 8:00 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Exactly.

I would hate to see it get to the point where any post from a fan of a rival team instantly sets off alarms, but I can see it getting there, and I think that really sucks. I don’t mind innocuous ball-busting in the least, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with stopping by a rival team’s blog and asking some questions to try and gain some perspective on that team’s lesser known quantities. But if the trolling doesn’t stop, it’s going to get harder and harder to do those types of things.

by acblue on May 9, 2008 2:07 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's good to hear that.

I haven’t been around LSB very long, but I know a bunch of us got tuned up last night because Gabbard just came off the DL and the Rangers have had to deal with an inordinate number of injuries when we weren’t expected to be a competitive club in the first place…so a lot of us are frustrated.

Glad to know that cooler heads can prevail on both sides.

dodged, he reminded me of an NBA player flopping on a “foul”.

great day

consecutive shutouts and broussard dumped in the place from whence he came

why is sexson still playing anyway? wilkerson could do a better job at first

love games like this when kinsler is being an all-around badass. we’ve got some real competitors on this team

getting mildly concerned about josh. i’ll just mentally replay the upper deck shot for now

it’s not entirely rational, but i’m a fan of Ramon. just like his style… plus you can’t forget his part in the 30 run game. nice to see him have a night like this

by tangiers on May 9, 2008 12:58 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sexson's OPSing over .700.

Yeah, not stellar, but definitely not in the category where it’s warranted to dump him. Wilkerson was quite terrible in comparison—bad average, bad power (no extra base hits), and horrible corner outfield defense.

by redwolf75 on May 9, 2008 9:27 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He had a good OBP

Which is one of the reasons Evan Grant lobbied to keep him around in Texas. He played 68 games at first for us last year.

Nevertheless, I think both the Rangers and Mariners signed bad players from the other team.

by jwiscarson on May 9, 2008 9:44 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I was really suprised to see how badly Ben did this year.

I think he gained some sort of cult status amongst some Mariner fans (myself included) simply by virtue of being left handed and not Sexson, but I think we knew he wasn’t all that great. Still, I thought he was a whole lot better than he’s shown so far this year.

It’s too bad, because even though he was playing for a rival, I liked Ben and wanted to see him do well. Maybe he’ll get picked by an NL team have some success there. Worked for Greg Norton.
