OT: Music in Movies Trivia

It's a Friday, I'm stuck at work and I'm looking for a distraction.  I figured I'd start a post in the vein of AJM's movie trivia posts.  I'm going to post a list of bands that have performed in a film, your job is to name the film this performance occured in.  If anyone else has any good ones feel free to toss them into the mix.  Don't forget, no cheating!

NOTE: I am not a fan of all of these bands listed.  In fact, I straight up dislike some.  Don't interpret this list as any kind of indication of my musical taste.  Thank you.

1. Aerosmith (Multiple answers, I'm looking for the good movie)

2. Alice in Chains

3. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

4. Ministry

5. Morris Day & The Time

6. Nick Cave

7. Otis Day & The Knights

8. Rammstein

9. Smash Mouth

10. ZZ Top

7. Animal House

Citizen Dick....

Their “hit song” in the movie - “Touch Me I’m Dick” - is a parody of what song by what legendary (but still somewhat obscure) Seattle ‘grunge’ band?

Bonus Points: what obvious reason is there for that choice of song in the movie?

by bronco28 on May 9, 2008 1:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Mudhoney

“Touch Me I’m Sick”

by jparks77 on May 9, 2008 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions

nice

and what’s the significance of Citizen Dick picking a Mudhoney song to parody?

by bronco28 on May 9, 2008 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Because

“Touch Me I’m Sick” was the first single on SubPop?

by jparks77 on May 9, 2008 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions

maybe

but what I was looking for is that when a band named Green River split up, the members went off and formed two different bands—

Mudhoney (Mark Arm & Steve Turner) &

Pearl Jam aka Citizen Dick (Jeff Ament & Stone Gossard)

So, the choice of “Touch Me I’m Dick” is sort of Ament and Gossard poking fun at their former bandmates.

by bronco28 on May 9, 2008 2:05 PM CDT up reply actions

To be exact...

Green River begat Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone.

After Andrew Wood od’d, Mother Love Bone sort of begat Pearl Jam by way of a Temple of the Dog intro to Eddie Vedder.

by bhudson on May 9, 2008 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Kind of

Pearl Jam was already getting started, because Eddie was already up from San Diego. Eddie was hanging out during ToTD recording. Chris had trouble hitting the low notes so Eddie helped out.

Not really sure how it’s Stone/Jeff poking fun at Mudhoney, since I doubt they had any input on the screenplay.

temple of the dog

if you are into that sort of music, you would expect them to be good (looking at their lineup).

they really aren’t.

Was a GREAT song, I thought. Unfortunately, it was the only thing on the album worth listening to. Pretty big disappointment.

being so excited when i discovered the band and so equally disappointed afterward. I think I even paid for that CD.

Guess I'm alone then

I like the CD, granted I haven’t listened to it in a while.

Reach Down (Track 2) is pretty sick. McCready goes off. Of course this is also before PJ’s first album, so you have to look at it in that context as well.

the point is that Gossard and Ament, who became Pearl Jam, were in a band with Arm and Turner, who became Mudhoney.

Also, I hope “I am not a fan of all of these bands listed” doesn’t include Nick Cave. Cause that’d be a shame.

Bingo

As for my original answer for #6

“Wings of Desire” is a German film from the late 80s. You may remember a washed down mainstream hollywood film that was based on it….... “City of Angels”

Gag.
