Blue Jays acquire Mench

PrintThe Rangers have traded Kevin Mench to the Blue Jays for cash considerations.
That clears some of the logjam in the COF/DH/1B roles in AAA. At least until Brandon Boggs goes back down, or Chris Davis gets promoted.
Interestingly, the Blue Jays are also supposedly interested in former Ranger outfielder Brad Wilkerson.

Good move...
for all involved. We were going to lose Mench anyway since there was no clear path to him being promoted here and the Jays’ LF/DH situation is a big mess.
The Ranger need another OFer.
With Cat going to 1B, they can add Byrd and send down either Metcalf or Duran. Hamilton and Murphy have been playing too many innings in the field. Another OFer would allow them to take a day off.

The Jays
are making some odd moves lately.
Despite Boggs’ nice start, the organization is still better off sending him back down when Byrd returns. You need to see what value Byrd can drum up. It’s still early May, they don’t need to play a youngster at every position no matter what, I think people need to relax on that a bit.

Now Hicks can afford
to go out and buy another striker or midfielder.

Doesn’t seem to be a good fit for Broussard. You can insert your own (no doubt, humorous) thoughts on how well Wilkerson fits that description currently.

The 40 man needs to get unclogged and the Rangers have got to clear some room for a backup catcher. The timesharing job between Laird and Salty is no good, they both need to be playing everyday. Let’s clear a spot and get a backup catcher or deal Laird.

Well that's a load off my mind...
...all year I’ve been fearing the day that I would see that spare “fan favorite” in a Ranger uniform.
Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.
