Minors 6/10 - 15 draft picks signed

Star-divide

According to the DMN blog the Rangers have signed 15 picks so far:

Actually they've signed or agreed to terms with 15 of the 50 picks (pending physicals). That includes third rounder LHP Tim Murphy, fourth rounder RHP Joseph Wieland and sixth rounder LHP Richard Bleier.

Here are the others that have either agreed to terms or signed:

Joey Butler, OF, University of New Orleans (15th Round)
Doug Hogan, C, Clemson University (18th Round)
Eric Evans, LHP, Radford University (23rd Round)
Adam Cobb, OF, Louisiana Tech (24th Round)
Tanner Roark, RHP (25th Round)
Chris Dove, OF, Elon University (26th Round)
Justin King, RHP, Jacksonville State (30th Round)
Kyle Higgins, SS, Monmouth University (31st Round)
Ryan Schlecht, RHP, Mount Olive College (34th Round)
Cody Eppley, RHP, Virginia Commonwealth University (43rd Round)
Kevin Torres, C, Puerto Rico Baseball Academy (45th Round)
Erik Morrison, SS, University of Kansas (46th Round)

Clinton and Kane County are currently locked at 0-0 in the 4th with Holland throwing a 2-hit shutout so far, and the other guy no-noing Clinton through 3 IP.

Frisco is up 3-2, Ramirez drew a bases loaded walk.

Mendoza has 4 shutout innings right now in OKC.  Perhaps he's righting himself.

no-hitter averted

4 runs so far in the 4th started by Beltre’s double.

Davis and Mayberry

both solo HR for OKC.

The Frisco lineup drew 7 walks on starter Andrew Bailey in just 2.2 IP. He’s out of the game with 76 pitches.

Hah, Clinton scored 4 in the bottom of the 4th.

Shout out to coolaid, hadn’t been to the game thread yet when I posted the draft pick thing.

Davis

by zywica on Jun 10, 2008 8:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Mayberry's aaa numbers arelookingpretty solid as well.

.292/.355/.504

he has 3 triples in 137 ab in aaa which i found surprising.
20/12 in SO/BB which is an improvement over aa.

if he keeps on track when do we expect to see him?

Dutch

I should call him a reliever more often. He looks sharp tonight.

by jparks77 on Jun 10, 2008 8:41 PM CDT   0 recs

When does he get promoted?

Not sure

He’s only logged 65 IP so far in full season ball and I doubt he is the first of that crew to get promoted. He still struggles with his command and he has been walking a ton lately.

My guess is that Feliz is the first to see Bakersfield.

Holland

10 BB’s in his last 12 IP, though.

by t ball on Jun 10, 2008 8:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He can get by with stretches like that

so long as he keeps a high K rate.

But he doesn't really

have that impressive a K rate, not like last year.

by t ball on Jun 10, 2008 8:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Quick math tells me that

he averages nearly 8.5 K’s / 9 this year?

That’s better than Gomez, who many are up in arms about. Yes, I realize Gomez is a year younger, but still.

I think Holland must improve his command overall, though, if he wants to be a successful ML starter. There’s a lot to like.

8.5 K's per 9

is not overwhelming in A ball. Very nice, but not elite. Don’t get me wrong, I like him and think he’s doing well, I was just noting a recent run of walks.

As for Gomez, we’re up in arms for him simple because we didn’t really expect anything out of him.

Jason Cole

Sez #11 pick LHP Cliff Singleton has agreed to terms – will sign tomorrow and be assigned to Spokane. Add him to the list.

We don’t know for sure where Main and Ramirez will end up – but I’m starting to think the SPO rotation will start out being Ramirez, Font, Pimentel, Bleier, Murphy. I’m thinking Main heads to CLN instead of SPO – but he’s a wild card until we hear for certain. Singleton, Henry, Grullon and some other Latin guys coming in as tandem relief early in the season. Sound reasonable?

by shroomer on Jun 10, 2008 9:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Okay

Re-reading the DMN’s list – Murphy’s status I believe is “agreed to terms.” I bet he may not sign for a little while. So, stick Springston [Singleton? doh] into the starting rotation instead.

Spokane

When does their season start?

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Springston signed

according to Jason Cole. Some of those guys are seniors, so they will probably sign (Guinn, Hollander, Hill, off the top of my head).

Guinn

Still playing in the CWS, but he’ll sign if he wants to play baseball.

Smoak

Anyone heard news on him?

Go Strangers.

by hightowersmith on Jun 10, 2008 11:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Talked to him today

Negotiation process with him hasn’t really started, according to him. Interview should be up sometime tomorrow.

by JasonCole on Jun 11, 2008 12:58 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Smoak

Thanks for that, Jason. Totally looking forward to the interview.

Actually, any word on where he’ll start? Day of draft, a lot of LSB folks were talking Cal League.

I am real excited about that player.

Go Strangers.

by hightowersmith on Jun 11, 2008 1:12 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I asked him

he said it hadn’t been discussed yet.

by JasonCole on Jun 11, 2008 1:46 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Bolden and Koncel must have signed

They were assigned to Spokane. Others assigned:
Neil Ramirez
Matt West
Bleier
Springston
Butler
Eric Fry
Kyle Murphy
Tim Rodriguez

25 players were assigned, but that’s all the names this report mentions.

5 Ks in 2.1 innings yesterday. great to see. he projects as a reliever, but he could be a stud if he can harness that stuff.

Interesting morning, too!

the OKC and Frisco games are at 11am this morning

by shroomer on Jun 11, 2008 8:15 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Me, too

Rosters are tight tho, since they only fill 1 team from the entire league – then that team plays a team from the Carolina League in the AS game. Only 4 OF’ers are chosen.
