Sickels on Engel Beltre
John Sickels has a new post up on Engel Beltre, as part of his "controversial prospect" series...some folks had Beltre in the Rangers' top 5 or 10 prospects, whereas Sickels didn't have him among the top 30...
Sickels has upgraded Beltre, based on his performance thusfar this season, to a B-, noting that he'd be a grade B if he keeps up his post-April numbers all season.
Anyway, some good stuff...check it out...

To be fair... You are a fan of School of Rock so your ability to judge anything is VASTLY overrated!!!!

if he will add .268/.322/.316 Elvis Andrus to this series.
Sharky said it, I believe it, that settles it

I think a B grade for a low-A player is a really high mark from Sickels.
He wants his A grade players to be ML sure-fire and likely All Star players. It’s hard to say that about anyone in low-A. I wonder how many grades above B he gives to low-A guys?
Ben Revere got a B after spending last season in the Twins’ equivalent of the Rangers’ AZL. Revere is 1.5 years older than Beltre. The best system in the majors (Rays) have two guys with B+ after they finished last season in low-A (Hellickson, Jennings). Both of those fellas are more than 2 years older than Beltre. I think that’s pretty good company for 18.5-yo Beltre to be in.
One other Rays note....
Price got an A without throwing an inning of minor league ball. Sickels’ is probably right about that. He’s tearing up hi-A (23.1 IP, 23 K, 3 BB). Might see an A+ on that kid by the end of the year, and a promotion to the majors doesn’t even seem out of the question. He was rated the #10 prospect in all of baseball by BA. Now with 7 of the top 10 in the majors, Price has to be the #1 prospect right now.
