They had some little glimmer of hope and a 12 game losing streak screwed that to the wall. I’m sure they want to hang Teahan by his sack, but tonight wasn’t fully his fault.

Tonight we were sucking the whole game, I get frustrated, leave to go play fetch outside with my dog, come back and the bases are loaded for Murph and his home run swing.

I think we will see him this year. Why not? Hes on the 40 burning an option as we speak so to bring him up won’t hurt anything. After Bakersfields season is over I wouldn’t be suprised if he is called up even if its only to be used as a pinch runner late in games.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Jun 11, 2008 10:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmm

I guess it all depends on how they handle it. I see your point though.

by FirebatM3 on Jun 11, 2008 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Because...

...the past few years, the Rangers have only called up guys who are going to get at least semi-regular playing time. They generally haven’t called up guys just to sit on the bench.

by Adam J. Morris on Jun 11, 2008 10:16 PM CDT up reply actions

From the best I can remember

They haven’t had guys like Borbon who are already on the 40 before they need to be.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:17 PM CDT up reply actions

as Boggs has? Rotate in the outfield and DH on a rare occasion? The guy is a flash around the bases.

The Rangers...

...don’t have a history of adding guys like him to the major league roster just to do it.

Unless he really exceeds expectations, I don’t see them doing it.

I’m hard pressed to think of a guy they’ve called up just so he could sit around.

Particularly given that I’m sure they want to be cognizant of service time issues.

by Adam J. Morris on Jun 11, 2008 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

ok

Im not saying bring him up while Frisco is in a playoff series and play everyday and hes gonna stay up from here on out. But seriously what bad things can happen by bringing up the guy after his other season is over and let him use his ML ready tools, speed and defense. Even if he goes 0-fer its just more experience so when he does come up for good he will be even more ready.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

When

Does he have to be up by?

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

He can be called up anytime. Right now hes on optional assignment. This year is his first option year. After this year he will have 2 years left. Assuming he goes to Frisco soon and finishes the year there. He will start next year in Frisco and hopefully go to OKC around midseason. Then next September he would be a callup and go into 2010, his last option year, looking to possibly be the Opening Day starter.

by bigsteve on Jun 11, 2008 10:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I am arguing they shouldn't do it

The guy is hitting .307/.349/.398 in A-ball in the best hitter’s league in professional baseball. There is no point in calling him up.

If we ignored the name, I don’t even think that people would be wanting him promoted based on his numbers. Well, except for the guys here who follow every mention of a minor leaguer with a plee to promote him.

by Brett Perryman on Jun 11, 2008 10:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Its not his name

Its the fact we gave this guy a 40 man roster spot because we felt he could make it to the bigs in a timely manner. We would not be bending over backward to get him up here. He would be in Frisco at the time and frankly I don’t see any downside to bringing up the guy. If anything you let him run and play defense at the end of games but it gives the guy confidence.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Jun 11, 2008 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

There really is no big problem in letting him see what the Majors is like and what would be expected of him.

by SarasotaRanger on Jun 11, 2008 10:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Your point

applies to every player on the 40 man roster. If you feel strongly that every player on every 40 man roster should be called up and given playing time in September, fine, whatever.

by Brett Perryman on Jun 11, 2008 10:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Personally

I don’t see much of a problem if the Rangers want to bring the guys up on the 40 to be in Arlington if only to just be around the Major League team instead of doing nothing in September.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions

no not everyone

But the guys we think are going to be fixtures in our future, which is what I think the Rangers view Borbon as since they gave him a ML deal up front. Also position players are easier to do it with because he can only play defense and pinch run which are things he is ML ready at instead of hit which he may not be yet. Pitchers have to pitch theres no way around it.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by Brett Perryman on Jun 11, 2008 10:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Borbon

You are arguing the guy isn’t ready and you are citing his offensive stats. Fine. Im not saying bring the guy up and start him in the outfield everyday and give him everyday ABs. He won’t be ready for that. But he is ML ready in speed and defense. What would be wrong with letting him come in at the end of games either as a pinch runner who stays in the field for defense or as a defensive replacement? If he gets a few ABs in blowouts or an occassional start how will that hurt him? If anything I think it will only help his confidence. A guy in his first full season of professional ball playing in the big leagues and contributing. He will get to experience the major leagues which can only help him in another year or two when he comes up for good.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 11, 2008 10:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I really

don’t have a problem with their early stuff, its just everything after the first few albums that I think suck and also how people say they are the greatest metal band of all time and BS like that. They aren’t that skilled musicians and their songs aren’t that good to be considered the best metal band in sound or in talent.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:42 PM CDT up reply actions

They really haven't been Metal per se

in years so I think you’re right there.

But, they’re one of the best bands of all time. From the early 80’s metal stuff to the more modern rock type stuff.

The fact that they remain popular after changing their sound so much speaks to their talent.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 11, 2008 10:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Well...

I would say Cliff Burton was a very skilled bass guitarist.

Overrated

Really doesn’t say much for your actual opinion, though.

They’ve been the most popular band in the world for 25 years, so if you think they’re just a tick less than perfect I suppose you could say they’re overrated.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 10:41 PM CDT up reply actions

well

they’re just not good IMO. They have a few good songs, but I never understood how they got to be so iconic with the music they have.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:44 PM CDT up reply actions

+1

at least Bono loves Jesus and wants to help make the world a better place.

I guess that qualifies him to manage the Rangers ;)

Please forgive any and all typos, mispellings, etc.
Your kindess in this matter is appreciated.

The guy

spent like 2 thousand dollars to get his hat shipped across Europe because he forgot it there. As much money and time as he spends helping the world, I can never take it seriously after I heard about that.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:44 PM CDT up reply actions

My dad

Makes that same argument:

“He’s rich so his his charity is bullshit”.

It doesn’t really make any sense.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Its more

that he spend 2 thousand dollars or so to ship a hat across Europe. That’s basically money he just threw away instead of donating it to charity or anything like that.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:54 PM CDT up reply actions

That only works

If you assume that money spent anywhere doesn’t help anybody except other rich people.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 10:55 PM CDT up reply actions

It gives business

and what not to some people and might be worth an extra dollar or two, but when we are talking about a guy who comes off as high and mighty about helping end world hunger and such, there were much better ways to invest that money.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:57 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess

But I’m pretty sure $2000 pales in comparison to the millions he’s brought in to Africa, especially.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Tell that

to the kids starving over there who could have used that 2000 dollars to eat for a year. Every dollar counts.

And just so we’re clear, I have no problem if he spends his cash on charities, drugs, and hookers. Its his money, he earned it, he can do whatever the hell he wants with it. He pisses me off when he tries to pretend he is Mother Theresa or something.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 10:59 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't

Think he’s done that, but he’s certainly brought in hundreds of millions by his raising money and governmental lobbying.

I don’t think he has to live like a pauper to not be called a hypocrite.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Well are you giving up all your free dollars for Africa?

If not how can you criticize for that just because he’s got a shitload of extra money.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 11, 2008 11:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess that last part

just flew by everyone. I could care less what he does with his money. Its how he comes out trying to look high and mighty and that he is better than Angelina Jolie or whatever. He has faults just like everyone else, and he is the world’s largest number 2.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think he does that at all

But to each their own.

You dislike Bono and Metallica….

Just not a fan of successful musicians?

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 11, 2008 11:09 PM CDT up reply actions

No problem with successful musicians

Just don’t like the highly overrated ones that aren’t that good to begin with.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess I just don't understand

How anybody could listen to Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby and say that.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 11:11 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm

just not much of a fan of Bono’s voice at all in most of the songs. The one great song of his that I really love is the team up with Green Day for “The Saints are Coming”

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 11:14 PM CDT up reply actions

heh

to each their own. I just don’t get the criticism of a guy like Bono.

You’re allowed to be outlandish, celf-centered, rich, and generous at the same time.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 11, 2008 11:12 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

but don’t go telling everyone how generous you are while at the same time literally stroking your ego for the whole world to see (take that in whichever way paints Bono in a worse light)

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 11:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Well

We could just keep going back and forth, but I don’t think he’s doing that at all. You don’t like him, so you just come up with that strawman.

It’s fine. Don’t even know why we’re arguing about it.

by brettgardner on Jun 11, 2008 11:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I only don't like him

because he does that. A few years ago, I was pretty much indifferent to U2.

by Gdawg on Jun 11, 2008 11:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

I’m not even really a Bono fan, but if I’m going to criticize him, it won’t be for his charity efforts.

He’s earned all his money. He shoudln’t have to apologize for the fact that he can ship a hat across the world.

But at the same time, I don’t really care, so I can drop it.
