Milton was out for blood?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3438827

Basically the story says Milton was in the clubhouse during the game and heard the Royals announcer says some stuff about him he didnt like. After the game was over he raced upstairs to lay down the hand of of smack. JD and Washington caught him. Which tells me that leg injury he suffered the other day was the only thing keeping him from a 20 game suspension. He had to be hobbled if Wash and JD caught him.

Anway not sure what was said, but Im glad they stopped him. I actually like Milton and his temper/passion for the game.

Based on this

http://startelegramsports.typepad.com/foul_territory/2008/06/the-bradley-sit.html

Deadlines being what they are, most news outlets didn’t have the time to pursue more information on what was said by Royals play-by-play man Ryan Lefebvre that stirred Milton Bradley’s emotions.

The facts were presented in the Star-Telegram, both in print and online, with general manager Jon Daniels speaking on behalf of Bradley. But the emotion he showed was that of someone who has been more hurt than angered.

The Bradley many of the media witnessed afterward wasn’t on a rampage, as many who hear of the incident probably will surmise. He had a calmness and a focus, and his emotions spilled out in the clubhouse.

Unfortunate in the situation is the stereotype surrounding Bradley. Did a police officer really need to be posted outside the TV booth? No. Was Bradley out to harm someone? Didn’t look like it. He was determined to tell Lefebvre that what he said was wrong.

The Rangers and Bradley are a good fit, and this incident shouldn’t spoil that.

The hope here is that more will be learned Thursday.

That loser deserved a right cross to the jaw..

for what he said about Bradley. The only reason I am glad that didn’t happen is because he’s been a fabulous player for us.

Milton

I would not sign him to an extension. He is going to either get hurt or do something stupid and get suspended or arrested. He is like the Ron Artest of MLB.

Figure out whats more valuable: the two draft picks or whatever a team offers you at the deadline.

by kumizi on Jun 12, 2008 5:36 AM CDT reply actions

Hardly

MB is not anywhere close to as volatile as Artest. MB does let his emotions run over too much, but I don’t see it as a problem. I think he gets careless with his emotions, however, and while this could hurt the team in the short term, he’s a better benefit in the long term.

Two completely different guys, Artest and MB. Equating MB to Kurt Rambis on the other hand…

arrested?

When has Bradley ever been arrested? This is the same thing that people were saying when the Cowboys signed TO. Just because the guy has had some on field mishaps and is an emotional player does not mean they are criminals. Because as soon as you say that word “arrested” you lump the player in with the idiots who commit crimes. MB is not that kind of person. Is he emotional….yeah. Does he show his emotion on the field, in the dugout, and in the clubhouse…...yeah. But he is not a criminal and has not ever done anything to get arrested

Neither has Artest from what I can remember. Bradley has already almost gone into the stands when he was with the Dodgers in right field. Do you remember that incident?

Last night, he almost went after the Royals announcers.

Its just a matter of time. Personally, I dont hate the guy and I like his passion but he is a loose cannon.

Great player. BUT the problem will only get worse in the second half when he’s a lot more tired and short fused. Like Lefebvre said “This wasn’t a Milton Bradley rip session”. It was based on them seeing him “making gestures to the fans in right field and above the dugout”. ” He’s the only person in baseball that I know does that kind of stuff”. The boy is a walking time bomb, we have to flip him unfortunately.

Yeah,

I also think he gets on his best behavior right after a trade, but sooner or later, Milton is Milton. I don’t think he is a bad guy, but he is quick tempered, and prone to do dumb things, like confront the announcers.

go after fans in the stands. If he’s taunting them already it’s just a matter of time before our lovely Milty is in the stands in a fight like he did with the Dodgers. That will be just lovely!

I personally am becoming a huge Bradley fan.

When we scored the tying run in the game Tuesday and he was jumping up and down, that was the most emotion I have seen in a baseball player. Who cares he whether or not he messes with the fans, they were probably yelling some stupid shit to begin with. It wasn’t like he was ready to go fight them, he was simply trying to show that he doesn’t care. Give me a player that gets that excited over tying up the score any day. If every player had his drive I would never expect to lose, maybe have a few more ejections, but I could take that.

Bradley

After reading that, the gist of what they said being that hamilton has turned around his life but milton hasn’t. I can see how that would make a person a little upset (especially milton bradley).

I don’t blame him for trying to confront the guys, it’s no different than the alex gordon situation with the hardline during spring training.

I like bradley, he may be a bit crazy but he’s the good kinda crazy.

I love Milton

He’s been beyond sensational for the Rangers this year, both as an individual and as a teammate. He’s become a team leader of sorts. This sort of volatility, though, coupled with his propensity to suffer injuries, makes me nervous. He won’t be back here next year, as good a fit as he is.

was playing what was said by the announcer, and no wonder he got pissed. it’s totally uncalled for to say something like that about someone you don’t even know. it blows my mind how the announcer can say later that he wasn’t trying to put him down and single him out with his comments, should of thought about what he was saying before he opened his mouth.

Where can we find this? If it is not online can anyone go into detail about what the annoucers said?

They played it on the Ticket

The announcer was talking about what a great story it is that Hamilton was able to turn himself around, and then made several comments about how Bradley would do well to do the same thing. It was definitely insulting, but he didn’t cross the line.

I guess it was the beatings made me wise. But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize.

"...Bradley screamed at teammates..."

What a shitty line. After several incidents this year, I think its pretty clear that there is a lot of bias against MB. On at least 2 occasions, I can remember umps picking fights with him (one just happened on Tuesday). Now you have an ESPN reporter characterizing a locker room speech as screaming. That same speech about being frustrated and wanting to play the game would be heralded as “passion” and “fire” if it came from any other person. I know he’s got a lot of history to overcome, but at some point a guy has to be able to move on.
Put any other players name in place of Bradley’s and the story would be about how out of line the announcer was or about the passion of the player.

by Jack Nicholson 1974 on Jun 12, 2008 7:56 AM CDT reply actions

It was pretty obvious

During the incident in San Diego it was obvious that Winters was baiting him into something. An ump should never walk towards a player in a confrontation like that. Everyone (umps, fans, broadcasters, players, coaches) knows that he has a short fuse, and a lot of those people are going to do everything they can to set the guy off. It reminds me a lot of the way Bob Knight gets treated sometimes.

Look, I’m not excusing his behavior. I’m just saying that the people who are provoking him deserve their fair share of the blame.

I guess it was the beatings made me wise. But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize.

by TheJeezus on Jun 12, 2008 8:57 AM CDT up reply actions

First Impressions

I think it is really hard for a guy to live down his reputation. Due to several incidents, MB earned the reputation as a hot head early in his career. Now, every other incident involving the guy is viewed in the same light. For example, the argument that lead to his injury last year is always reported as an example of MB losing his cool to the detriment of his team. It is only a footnote that MB was minding his own business when the 1b ump started talking crap behind him to rile him up. Of course, he could’ve handled the situation better, but a situation he didn’t start is now used as a primary example of his temper.
On Tuesday, MB stuck out on a questionable call and said a little comment to the HP ump before heading to the dugout (just like every other MLB player would) and for no reason, the 3b ump started talking shit. Thankfully MB went to the dugout and was the bigger man. After the inning, Washington had to confront the 3b ump.
Earlier this season, the HP ump called a late third strike on MB. Since it was a full count, MB was already a couple of steps toward first. As he looked back at the ump on the way to the dugout, the HP ump walked toward him and started talking shit.
In all of these cases, it is clear the umps are the instigators, yet MB is always labeled the bad guy. I can’t think of any other player that umps intentionally try to irritate. I’m just glad he’s been able to keep his cool so far.

Not at all the same

Gordon acted like a bitch, cried to the organization and demanded an apology for a joke. Then he demanded that a radio station not come near him or his wife.

There was no joke to what the Royals guy said and, instead of whining like a baby, MB went to have a conversation and handle the matter himself. To my knowledge, MB has not demanded that the Royals announcer refrain from using his name or attempting to speak to him. I don’t think MB has even demanded an apology.

In sum:
MB = man
Gordon = bitch (still)

by Jack Nicholson 1974 on Jun 12, 2008 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions

I might buy that reasoning

But it wasn’t the original reason for insulting Gordon. Instead it’s just a little bit of clever goalpost shifting that you pulled out of your more macho than thou ass.

No, the original reason for calling Gordon a bitch was because NO real man would take offense to something that a talking head would say, be it about him or his wife or mother or whatever. Only a thin skinned little pussy would get mad over something that was said on TV or radio.

I like a little consistency so I’ll be magnanimous and go first. You can follow.

Hi, I’m John and I think that both instances are a result of poor judgement on the part of the media figure and it’s understandable that the player in question would get pissed off.

Now you go.

Well I wonder if this hurts Bradley's trade value...

I hope not. If Big Papi is out long-term, I def. could see a Bradley and Teagarden/Salty for Lester, Masterson or Buchholz.

by Agreen07 on Jun 12, 2008 10:43 AM CDT reply actions

That would be amazing

even though bradley could fetch two high draft choices and we trade a top catching prospect I still make that deal and I kind of think boston might as well. They have entirely too much pitching with Dice-K, beckett, wakefield, lester, buchholz, colon, and masterson.

I doubt they trade lester and even bucholz but that is a hell of a package even if bradley leaves after the season. That team values the draft very highly and that is pretty much the main reason they are doing so well and will continue to for a while now. Maybe bucholz, masterson and a low level minor leaguer for bradley and teagarden.

That seems like a lot and too sweet of a deal, however I kind of think that boston fans (reasonable ones that is) might say the same thing.

the Umps, that has been proven, MB has one of the best eyes for balls and strikes at the plate of anyone in the bigs, and yes he is a very emotional player, he has a passion for the game, we can only hope that that emotion does not cause a problem for himself and the team, as the summer heats up and he goes into a slump as all players do over a long season, we just have to wait and see what will happen.

Bradley = Ponson

Both emotional and outspoken.
Both doing well this year.
Both signed on one-strike condition.
Both lost it.
Both should be gone.
If “team”, character, and integrity matter.

Ponson got canned because his was a lousy teammate and called both players and managers out. Bradley lets his temper flare occasionally during the game, but shows the same emotion positively when the club does well. He is not out there for personal accomplishments and by all accounts is a terrific teammate. Big difference.

I heard the clown's comments about Bradley.

And I was really struck how stunningly unnecessary and unprofessional they were. It seemed like a personal grudge against Bradley rather than a fair commentary.

Lefebvre even mocked Bradley jumping in spontaneous joy atop second base when a ball got past the catcher to plate a key run in that game.
Bradley may not always behave exactly as people want but he has a PASSION for winning games for the Texas Rangers and I LOVE that about the guy. Here's a veteran busting his butt down the line on routine ground-outs and showing he really cares about what happens.
