RW's bullpen usage?!?!?

Why the hell did we need Frankie in a 6 run game last night?  Surprise, surprise, he throws 18 pitches last night in a 6 run game, and somehow he isn't real sharp this afternoon.  Jack Benny needed work, Tejeda hadn't throw in days.  I guess I don't get it.  Seems like once someone is warming up for RW he is coming into the game regardless of whether or not the game situation changes.

God forbid we actually could sweep anybody.

RW

His usage of everything pretty much sucks in-game.

like when

he takes out cat for shelton and then doesnt pinch hit for shelton with bradley on the bench

by kumizi on Jun 12, 2008 4:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

like when

he DHs Brandon Boggs instead of maybe giving Hamilton half a day off.

by kumizi on Jun 12, 2008 4:04 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Yes if Boggs is in the lineup...

...it should be in the outfield, NOT at DH.

Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.

hamilton actively dislikes DHing

obviously you can ignore him if you want though.

Bring up Justin Smoak

by DSheppard on Jun 12, 2008 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

last i checked

there were 3 outfielders that play at one time. is Boggs really a good enough hitter to be a DH? wouldnt you say the outfield is one of his strengths?

by kumizi on Jun 12, 2008 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hamilton

Hamilton is our best player and best offensive player. If he doesn’t like playing DH for whatever reason you listen. Yeah ideally Boggs would not be the DH but they wanted to get his bat in the lineup and Bradley and Vasquez had the day off due to us playing a series in a NL park this weekend. And Boggs is probably the 4th best defensive outfielder we have, 5th if Bradley is fully healthy. Both Murphy and Byrd are better defenders than he is

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

At least

I’m not alone. Who here didn’t call the Frankie meltdown before it happened? So frustrating.

Why not just leave Wright in?

He seemed to be effective.

Yeah, I noticed that too last night

Frankie had a really good inning, threw 14 of 18 piches for strikes, but it was kind of a waste in a 6 run game. That would have been the perfect time to get Benoit an inning.

But still, I don’t know if you can blame Frankie’s outing on working two days straight. He just didn’t have it today, not much you can do about that.

He had enough

to blow away buck at the end.

He’s just maddeningly inconsistant. My arm for a reliever who is the right handed version of Eddie. A guy that will make the hitter beat him.

I didn't agree with putting Frankie in

but not because he pitched last night. because he sucks when starting innings off and can’t be trusted in close games.

guardado pitched 2 days in a row, he could use a break.

tejeda can’t be used in that kind of high leverage situation.

benoit seemed like the obvious choice to me if you weren’t going to leave wright in. wash gets in trouble with these edicts he makes about certain roles. apparently since benoit has been demoted in favor of guardado, all of a sudden he can’t be used in the 8th because that’s no longer his “role”. of course it’s not frankie’s role either. if you want to put guardado over benoit in the pecking order all things being equal, then fine, that makes sense. but it doesn’t make sense to banish benoit if guardado isn’t available.

Benoit

really, what’s the difference between an inconsistant Benoit and an inconsistant Frankie at this point?

Except for the 2 ERA points.

i could have sworn that benoit is mr. suck around here

besides the few people who are complaining, not sure how many people would have wanted benoit in a one run game. i don’t even think benoit would want to go into a one run game at this point.

what a ridiculous complaint

last night, frankie started warming up when the game became a 4 run game (otherwise, CJ had started the inning). Since murphy made it 4 so quickly, Frankie had enough time to start warming up. but, they couldn’t stop him once the game got out of hand. So, he had to come in during a 6 run game. There wasn’t enough time to get a tejeda up at that point. Would you have wanted Tejeda up in a 4 run game? Immediately have to go to CJ when Tejeda got into trouble? How long would you have left him in? Same goes for Benoit.

With that over, today, you’re saying Wash should have gone to Benoit today? Really? in a one run game? Pretty sure the complaining would have been a lot louder for that than bradley pinch hitting.

people don’t even think about the second guesses. they’re just happy with themselves that they can identify plausible alternatives and immediately suspect that there way has to be right since Wash’s way ended with a loss.

Wash never adapts

once a guy gets up, he is coming into the game. Maybe warming up Jack B in a 6 run game could be an option. The guy needs a confidence boost, lower pressure situation.

by RA Dickey on Jun 12, 2008 6:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

when was he supposed to warm him up

did you watch the game? do you know how fast the game got out of hand?

This is stupid

the problem is that we have a grand total of 2 guys in the pen that you’d call reliable, and they’re both lefties.

One of which is a 38 year old lefty without great stuff, that’s coming off of an injury. What this team needs is Jack Benoit circa 2007 or Akinori Otsuka circa 2006. A guy that comes in and performs and can do so consistantly. Then, you wouldn’t get this ridiculous amount of flux in the pen and this equally as ridiculous amount of second guessing of minor moves.

Frankie by another name

there’s arms in our system, but you never know how they turn out. Relievers are such fickle creatures.

presurgery

bouts of wildness, kinda looks like Bartolo

by FirebatM3 on Jun 12, 2008 7:29 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll take presurgery Frankie

If he didn’t have the bouts of wildness he’d be an elite relief prospect. So long as he’s not as unpredictable as postsurgery FX2, I’m fine with it.

As soon

as Murphy goes yard the 2nd time I start thinking about JB. Again, that is just assuming that Frankie is now going to take a more prominent role (7th) inning. Why waste him? I guess it doesn’t matter, I had a problem with it last night based on the fact that the game was semi in control, and we might need Frankie in the as a set up man today since Eddie would be unavailable, and since he has flat out said he wouldn’t be using JB in the 8th.

Not second guessing it, I had a problem with it last night also. Doesn’t matter they are just an average team and this is what average teams do. Just hate to see another one get away.

like i said above

with the way benoit is pitching, he probably would have required CJ to come in and bail him out. We just need better performance. Our manager isn’t doing anything wrong here.

I love it...

I thought people would be happy with seeing more Fx2 and less Jack since everybody here was bitching about that when Jack was struggling. So last night he used Fx2 to close the game out when it wasn’t a save situation instead of using BGL (because most here would have bitched about him coming into a game with a 6 run lead). Then he rewards Fx2 for his good outings lately and demotes Jack for struggling (which is a good move). Result – LSBers still complaining about Wash. What a shocking development. This team is at .500 with a very bad overall pitching staff right now and some people are still complaining.

Fx2 is like many pitchers on this team, inconsistent. Usually he is good but he can choke at times. Just like Jack, Wright, Eddie G, and every other reliever on this team. Sometimes the hitter just gets the best of the pitcher. Deal with it, and stop blaming everyfuckingthing on the manager. The players play the game. The players win the game. The players lose the game.

OT: Speaking of players winning games…....holy shit am I hyped up right now. I can’t believe the Celtics came back and won tonight. Just like the Lakers in game 2 but they completed the comeback. Almost everyone in the media said the Lakers would win this series and have been swing all over Kobe’s sack. Pierce played him like a BEAST today. Damn I’m so happy right now. 1 more game, can you smell it Miles, I sure can. One of my teams is finally going to win a fucking TITLE!
