i really dont want to get rid of bradley,

I would love for him to stay healthy and play for us for a few great years. The team seems like they have such great chemistry.

Damn, Josh is a natural

when it comes to sliding, too.

That looked like a lot of fun—rec.

great sliding video

Michael Main sighting … I think.

Click on the short Spokane Indian Video on the lower right.

Isn’t the pitcher throwing in this video Michael Main? The ending freeze frame gives a good shot of him. Sure looks like Main. This horrible little article mentions Spokane as a possible destination for him in late June. So, it looks like he’s in Spokane working out with the team. They had their first practice today – fans and media all invited.

BTW, this odd pdf file of the team roster does not list Main, but does list Martin Perez.
Look at MP’s vitals tho’— 6-4 22-yr-old 250 lbs RHP? Something’s fishy.

by shroomer on Jun 14, 2008 11:25 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Isn't Perez a skinny lefty?

Anyways, those measurements are probably Hunter’s. Not sure how those get mixed up.

by uthornfan on Jun 15, 2008 12:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I got it confirmed that Perez

is definitely going to Spokane. He is definitely not right handed and 6’4”, 250 lbs.

Font isn’t starting in Spokane because he’s rehabbing from what was described as a minor shoulder injury.

by JasonCole on Jun 15, 2008 2:40 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Great news on Perez

disappointing on Font.

Thanks for both nuggets, as always.

Roster published in sat Spokane paper

No Main. Tim Murphy!, Hurley and Kaase seem to be the latest adds. I swear that that was Main in the workout video I linked. I wonder if he’s just gonna be on the D.L. the first week while he gets a few extra bullpens in and hangs with the team – maybe get activated the 2nd week or something.

What do you think the starters will look like?

sp: bleier, boscan, murphy, ramirez, pimental? sounds like springston is a starter, maybe the young latin kids will be tandem starters to keep their innings down.

c-hogan?
1b-ortiz
2b-ecker
ss-west
3b-koncel
of/dh-bolden, butler, fry, rodriguez?

I would think west and koncel would be switched, but I remember hearing west is gonna play ss.

Other than west, bolden, and maybe ortiz and fry or butler are there any real position prospects on this team?

by rchawk12 on Jun 15, 2008 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Perez will start, Murphy will relieve.

Martin Perez will start (not sure if it will be right away, though).

Tim Murphy is going to pitch in relief because he’s already thrown about 110 IP this year.

Main will be with the club eventually (and start), but I don’t know when.

When Font feels better, I think it’s more likely that he’ll show up in Spokane than Clinton.

Rupe

The rest are Rangers regulars besides him. If he’s in the game more thank likely I’ve punched out b/c we are getting blown out. The rest have been around for a while and/or pretty recognizable.

Just awesome...

It’s nice to see athletes outside of the “serious ballplayer” mentality. That looked like a ton of fun, and the Mets fans really appreciated it.

When the NYT was listing the players in the “Great Shea Tarp Slide,” they list Josh Rupe as Ryan Rupe. Huh.

by cmkelly29 on Jun 16, 2008 9:54 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

For a few seasons running

whenever the Mavs visited MSG to play the Knicks, one of the NYT’s basketball guys would write about how Don Nelson has overcome his early mistake of trading away Jason Kidd only to turn the Mavs into an entertaining winner.

by shroomer on Jun 16, 2008 10:38 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What was really funny...

about it to me is the caliber of the guys out there. 4 of the 6 should be all-stars this year. These guys are the team leaders. Not just rookies that came up and don’t play a big role on the team. I think that really shows the kind of attitude this team has. I like it.

"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates

by slc ranger on Jun 16, 2008 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

This team has a very similar attitude...

to the early 2000s Oakland A’s. I don’t think that’s a coincidence (Washington, Howe).

Remember how those A’s team typically flopped out of the gate every year before storming to 95+ win seasons? This offense even has the OBP thing going for ‘em too. If only our Big Three were of Hudson/Mulder/Zito quality…
