Mariners fire GM Bavasi
SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners Chief Executive Officer Howard Lincoln today announced that Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations & General Manager Bill Bavasi had been relieved of his duties with the club.
Vice President/Associate General Manager Lee Pelekoudas will take over as the interim General Manager, effective immediately. He is the eighth General Manager in club history.
"Change is in order." Lincoln said. "We have determined new leadership is needed in the GM position. With a new leader will come a new plan and a new approach. A search will begin immediately for a permanent GM, and Lee will be a candidate for the position."
Well, about time I guess.

Why that team didn't sign Barry Bonds

Bonds
The M’s are more image-conscious than just about any team I can think of. That’s why they didn’t sign Bonds.

Aww
Maybe I can get the job.
Joe Morgan: (On Jay Bruce) I think he will. He brings energy to the team, and besides that, he is a pretty good hitter.
Ken Tremendous: I like that the #1 reason he will help his team is: "energy," and the distant #2 reason is: "ability to hit baseballs."

About time
Can McClaren be far behind? Long to do list there. I was hoping they’d just stick with Bavasi. We do not need another smart GM in the AL West. Let’s hope they hire another boob quickly, or that Pele-Pookas is no smarter than his predecessor.

BZA want the job!
However, if he can explain OPS, he is over-qualified for the SEA position.

Well
He got Piazza for Preston Wilson, Ed Yarnall, and Geoff Goetz.
And these aren’t trades, but from his wikipedia page
He is also credited with drafting David Wright, Scott Kazmir, and Lastings Milledge, and signing Jose Reyes.
And a lot of people blame Phillips for trading Kazmir, but that was Duquette.

Phoenix appeals to me, also.
What do you think about Orlando or San Francisco? I assume it’s cheaper to live in Orlando, but I realize neither coast will end up “cheap” as opposed to Texas.

Cheap
There are very few places that are as cheap as Texas, this is mostly due to the fact that there is no state income tax. It was a major shock going from Plano to the Boston area. A good deal will probably be equal to what I am paying in rent, though most places will most likely be higher.

Rent
I live in a 1+, that is a one-bedroom plus another room that is not big enough to be considered a bedroom. It works great a place to study. Rent is $1,100 (plus utilities). I live in Somerville which is north of Boston, and east of Cambridge. It is not far from either, but certainly lacks the cachet of the two aforementioned towns. I know people in the Dallas are who pay less for a brand new house (a few bedrooms), and they did not put any money down for their mortgage.

Been in SF for a day. Thought it was pretty badass.
I’ve never been to Orlando, though. My Florida experience was pretty much just Miami. I’m sure I was too young to appreciate it.
I thought Boston was interesting, but I don’t see any way I’d want to live there. Same with NYC and especially Philly. Matter of fact, I’m not a big fan of the northeast, mostly due to weather, prices and people.

San Francisco
It was a bit of an adjustment for me the first time I saw a gay couple making out on the sidewalk there. I’ve been lucky enough to never be accosted by a homeless guy there, though.
One piece of advice I actually listened to my grandmother on: never, ever attempt to drive a car with a manual transmission in San Francisco.

Funny story...
Usually when me and my friends went to SanFran I would drive. One time I let my buddy drive his old beater that just happened to be a manual. He of course decided to take the scenic route and go down Lombard Street. At the top of one of the numerous hills his car stalled. I was sitting in the back seat just laughing and turned around and yelled “were going down”. Luckily no one was behind us because we rolled down a ways before he kicked his car over and it started. I laugh about it now, but it scared the shit out of us at the time. He never drove there again either. We always took my automatic every weekend after that.

I do ...
... business writer and copy editing from home. I am a one-woman business and when I decided to go this route instead of a “real” job, I moved back home to Texas because there are no state income taxes here and that bodes well for a newbie freelancer. Moving to Seattle would SIGNIFICANTLY up my tax bill, not to mention that the cost of living is waaaay higher there than here in South Texas. I mean, it’s not even close.

I was thinking about the San Diego trade. I recall JD saying that his motivation for that trade was his belief the Rangers only needed to add a few pieces in order to contend. He got Aki to stabilize the bullpen and a veteran pitcher for the rotation.
