CD is just about ready, isn't he?
Hank Blalock isn’t gonna have much time to build up trade value at first base at this rate.

he needs to go back to third
his moving to 1st is looking more and more like a colossal f-up

Davis doesnt have the the lateral quickness for 3B.
There is little to no chance Davis is moving off of 1B unless its to the DH spot to make room for Smoak

It was the right decision for Davis
Seems like terrible timing on Blalock’s end, though.
by BudLight on Jun 16, 2008 8:43 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
timing
At the time it looked like a decision that would at least allow us to look at Hank at 1B for awhile. Davis was struggling in AAA and hank was coming back from his hammy injury. Then he got the carpal tunnel injury and Davis…well he has just gone off. So yeah now it looks like really bad timing.

Agreed
But the only problem is, with all the problems Hank has gone through lately, moving him back to third really doesn’t seem like much of an option. From what I’ve read, his right hand is still a little weak from the carpal tunnel surgery.

Can you play
Milt in the outfield everyday and DH Hank?
This would improve Milts value as well I would think….

by red shoe ranger on Jun 16, 2008 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Doubt it
However Davis being ready here in the next few weeks, if not now, would make it easier to part with Bradley. Hank could slide into the DH role and although we would absolutely lose some production it shouldn’t be too bad.

Excellent point
Just one thing though: that would leave our 3-6 hitters all left-handed (Ham, Hank, Murph/Davis)

Salty to clean-up
Seriously, I don’t see why not, in that scenario, especially if OMOT is still around.
It’s not like he’s getting to play every day, so when he does, he might as well get to see better pitches, imo.
Ham-Salty-Hank-Murphy-Davis, Smoak on the way, Hank on the way out.

Heh
Okay… you know I’ve often thought that as much as Salty gets on base, they might try batting him second a few times – see how he does with somebody like MY of Hammy behind him.
by lonestarJon on Jun 16, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No
I wouldn’t mind seeing Hank ahead of Murphy but not cleanup. I think we would just have to deal with a 3-7 of Hammy/ Davis/ Blalock/ Salty/ Murph. It would allow Davis to see the best pitches possible because pitchers would probably pitch around Hammy to get to the rookie and with hank behind him they would likely not mess around with Davis. No offense to Murphy but if you have Davis behind Hank teams would probably pitch around Hank to get to davis and use his aggression against him by throwing alot of stuff out of the zone for him to chase

I think you meant to reply to LSJ
I don’t want Hank at clean-up, either. I’m also not opposed to batting Murphy ahead of him.
Long-term, I was thinking: MY, Kinsler, Ham, Salty, Davis, Smoak, Murphy, JMJ, Andrus.

How can you rule that out?
He’s clearly a selective hitter and I’d like to give his power a chance with better protection around him.
It doesn’t have to happen now, necessarily, but I’d prefer to see him there for an extended time while he’s young. If you’re in the camp that he should be traded, then it’s probably going to improve his value.
He’s certainly more established than Smoak is, as far as middle-of-the-order-ready hitters.

He hasn’t been able to stay healthy EVER and even this year he keeps missing time with little nagging injuries. Trade him before he has a serious injury and move on. I would just as soon not have to endure posts on this blog in a couple of years bemoaning what a stupid decision it was to give a guy with Bradley’s history $10+ million a year.
And besides, he can’t pitch so why do you care?

More hyped for sure. But Tex was a year older than Davis was his first pro season. And in AA they put up similar numbers with Tex having a slight advantage. Tex had much better plate discipline which increased his OBP but power wise Davis actually had better numbers both in HRs and SLG%.

When he hit 36 HR’s between Bakersfield and Frisco. Tex was more like Justin Smoak, somebody who was ready to shoot through the farm system as soon as he got drafted. But before 2007, CD really wasn’t on the radar as a “top prospect”. Which isn’t a knock on him, that’s just the way things went.

He is very athletic but he isn’t a very good OF. His arm is fine but his throws are often wild and he takes poor routes to balls. He could handle it but I think he is better suited for 1B. He was considered a very good 1B in college. Excellent size and his footwork wasn’t bad.

Im still in favor for leaving him down in AAA till the end of July at the earliest.
He can crush the ball all he wants, but until he improves his plate discipline and maintains that discipline for a several month stretch, he will still get victimized with K’s.
Why rush a kid and let his struggle and then slowly adjust to the majors instead of letting him force the league he is in now to adjust to him and see a marked spike in BB rate when the league just stops pitching to him. When he can force the league to pitch around him on regular basis, then promote him.
If he cant, promote him in Sept or after you trade Blalock.

Do you consider...
...Matt Harrison or Tommy Hunter to be star-pitching prospects?
If so, yes…

Matt Harrison
is a number 2 starter at worst, so yes…

A 3 or 4 not a 2.

You are wrong.
Remember he is coming off of an injury…
So what he is doing right now, he will only do better when he is fully healthy…
Hurley/Harrison will be the best 1-2 punch in the MLB for years to come.

1 career start
is a great way to gage a player…
If they did that, then Nolan Ryan should have been a terrible starting pitcher.

It's also a great way to curse two players
after 1 career start, combined. =P

it's all about trends, Richie Rich...
...13 HRs in 60 something Triple-A innings is a cause for concern.

oc, you know I've got your back
But you’ve gotta chill out on the selective excitement. We’ve got the arms in the lower minors. We’ve got plenty to be excited about with the bats clicking like they are in Frisco and OKC.

Joe Morgan: (On Jay Bruce) I think he will. He brings energy to the team, and besides that, he is a pretty good hitter.
Ken Tremendous: I like that the #1 reason he will help his team is: "energy," and the distant #2 reason is: "ability to hit baseballs."

OC
Why did you go on a rant earlier about people still wanting to trade Milton Bradley but then act like you dont care what happens untill we get good pitching.
Trading Milton Bradley = GET GOOD PITCHING.

pipe dream, Salt...
teams in contention don’t just fork over major league ready aces for a couple of months with Milton Bradley…

Definitely
He often gets lost amongst our plethora of pitching prospects but I definitely think he’s someone to keep an eye on.
by Butters on Jun 16, 2008 11:17 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
a couple of weeks removed
from injury and he’s getting back on track. Dear god, it’s going to be fun trying to rate all these pitchers at the break and this off-season. Several guys like Gomez, Hunter, and Holland have raised their stock and many of the guys in Spokane could very well do the same.
I can’t wait to here about Ramirez, Main, and a sleeper like O’Campo during the stretch this summer too.
