I’m trying to apply the moral to the TW news, but don’t get it.

Tiger
Wow. The guy needs ACL surgery and had a stress fracture in his leg and still went out and won the US Open. Had to play 91 holes of golf over 5 days to do so. Unbelievable

that is sad
hopefully he’ll come back strong. And, this should shut the people up who thought he was ‘faking it’. Morons.

also so cool of him to keep it under wraps until the Open was over

wow
he played with a blown acl???
Woods said on his Web site that he originally ruptured the ACL in 2007 while running at his home in Orlando after the British Open. He said he decided not to have surgery at that point, and he went on to win five of the next six events he entered (through his Target World Challenge in December).

I'm not surprised
he simply pushed himself too much during the Open. The funny thing, is if he had put less physical pressure on himself, and had hit softer more accurate shots, he probably could have done just as well, if not better. So many times he just ripped the shit out of the ball, and would end up 5-10 yards off the fairway. Those extra 19-holes probably didn’t help at all.
I really hope he gets better, because I would hate to see his long-term career take a hit because of this. It’s going to be nasty when he comes back, it’s really tough to go that long without playing, and still do his thing. Golf is a sport of consistency. But more to my point, it would be a huge shame if his career was shortened, someone like him that has the opportunity to be something even more special than he already is, it would be a waste. Not to mention we would never hear the end of “Tiger… what could have been.”
For the record, I’ll still watch golf from weekend to weekend, but I’m into it. Especially now that a lot of the other sports I don’t care about, are over (NHL, NBA, NCAA BB).

pushing himself during the open
his first swing of the open on Thursday was followed by a giant wince. I don’t think it got worse as the week went on.

Did anyone else
think that commercial with his father’s voice over about how Tiger will never meet anyone as mentally tough as him was amazing? Being Father’s Day and all, it packed quite an emotional punch. And then he turned around and sank that dramatic putt on 18.

And by the way
would anyone like to throw out the theory that woods was faking the pain after bad shots to make himself look better again?

and that in itself was stupid
because he was clearly hurting on good shots as well, 18th hole on sat night for one.

I'll eat the crow
The name calling though Longhorn is uncalled for though. I doubt you would be so brave to say it if I had made those statements in conversations at a bar. At least not in the tone that you come across in this thread.

name calling?
Where did he call anyone a name. he said a comment was stupid not that the person was stupid. I have no problem if i say something stupid someone points it out and i have no problem pointing out stupid comments if they are made. It was a stupid comment. that means absolutely nothing about the person who said it.

It was mentioned up earlier in the thread. No biggie. I’m still eatin’ crow.

When I was following him around on Monday
I told my buddy that we’ll be hearing that he’ll be getting surgery again in a few days… I cannot believe that he had the mental strength to swing the club the way he was knowing that what the pain was going to be like when he was done.
