Bradely must be more hurt than he's letting on

here, shelton is batting .200 as a 1B who basically only faces lefties

the rangers

have the most runs in the league yet they have one comeback in a save situation

that just kind of shows why suck

which is about

what we expected at the beginning of teh season.

Of course, we also expected the pen to be good

no

well, i expected much worse

I'm sitting here trying to figure out...

...why I expected the pen to be good.

Because I did. And now, looking back, that doesn’t seem to make sense.

by Adam J. Morris on Jun 18, 2008 9:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

benoit and wilson

took huge steps backwards. and fuku did shit.

guardado and wright have pretty much been saviors.

I think frankie/german delivered what was expected of them

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Jun 18, 2008 10:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I expected more out of Benoit

And I thought we’d be getting a lot more from Fuku. This is about what I expected from Siege. The guy is so miscast right now.

The guy who’s really disappointed me though is Fx2. I thought he’d be taking over closer duties by mid season. He’s got really good stuff in him somewhere and I figured this would be the year he finally unleashed it.

The 40 Trumps All!!!

by thedirkatron on Jun 18, 2008 10:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

heh

there were people on this board that did predict pen failure.

think about the fact that we all expected good things from fukumori – and he never once pitched a solid inning for the rangers.

all downhill from there.

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Jun 18, 2008 10:01 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i think there was very little hype for fukumori imo

benoit is the biggest change this year.

by DSheppard on Jun 18, 2008 10:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I think everyone figured the pen would be decent

I don’t think anyone saw CJ falling off the horse. Benoit was either going to be great, or suck. He sucks. Rupe – eh. Mathis, no thanks. Francisco is too incosistent. Why Franklyn German isn’t still here… who knows.

Wright and Guardado have been decent though.

stats

Stats don't lie

by Longhorn on Jun 18, 2008 10:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The starting rotation

didn’t give the team enough innings last year (should have signed Lilly or Suppan) which is probably why the bully is sucking this year.

"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."

by Josey Wales on Jun 18, 2008 11:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Are you fucking serious?

after all that bitching your solution is actually to sign Lilly or Suppan? Even with the advantage of Hindsight? Really? Lilly? Suppan?

Hahahahaha.

by FirebatM3 on Jun 18, 2008 11:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe your knuckles

are still dragging on the ground and the concept is beyond your grasp, but trust me, there is value in soaking up innings and posting every 5th day.

"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."

by Josey Wales on Jun 18, 2008 11:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

And your solution

to that is obviously sign two guys who average 6 and 5.6 innings per start respectively, despite playing in the NL?

If all we needed was guy who can suck for 200 innings a year, they’re easy to find. Just look at Sidney Ponson. Hell, our AAA arms can suck as much as Ted Lilly and Jeff Suppan sucks. Spending money on pitchers who happen to suck is a pretty good way to guarantee that your team will continue to suck.

No more paying for 5th starters. We’d be better off blowing the bank on Sabathia and assembling a rotation from there.

Geez, Suppan and Lilly. That was beautiful

by FirebatM3 on Jun 19, 2008 12:03 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Lilly went 15-8 last year with an ERA below

4 while Suppan had close to 20 quality starts last year and an ERA below 5.

Both pitchers were healthy and had more than 200 IP’s last year.

Very good investments for both the Cubs & Brewers and either would have helped last year’s Rangers team and this year’s Ranger team on several levels (notably the bullpen)..

"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."

by Josey Wales on Jun 19, 2008 12:09 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

they are both signed to their age 36 seasons

As I said, if I wanted to find guys that can be mediocre for 200 innings, you can use your minors guys. Scott Feldman can be mediocre for 200 innings, and he costs a lot less. Paying 20 million for 2 guys who are utterly unremarkable is a bad way to build a team.

by FirebatM3 on Jun 19, 2008 12:16 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Cubs & Brewers seem

to be doing okay right now since Lilly & Suppan joined their teams.

"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."

they’re doing okay despite Lilly and Suppan joining their teams.

jennings, ponson

obviously better signings

by sam in so cal on Jun 19, 2008 8:52 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Very doubtful.

They won’t be near .500.
Absolutely no pitching.

Is Josh Hamilton's arm starting to become overrated??

He threw out someone early in the year and we all thought….WOW!! I can’t remember another time he actually made a strong AND accurate throw to home??

It might just be me though….....

"GO RANGERS!!!" - bspate

by bspate on Jun 18, 2008 9:58 PM CDT   0 recs

It's not overrated

He’s made more than 1 stellar throw.

by cmkelly29 on Jun 18, 2008 9:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Nah I see that

Consider I see Jose Guillen everyday play for the royals.

Josh does not seem to have above average arm strength

by SaltyGoesYard on Jun 18, 2008 9:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

um

he has above average arm strength, his accuracy isn’t necessarily there though

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Jun 18, 2008 10:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Whatever way you slice it

He just does not seem strong getting to homeplate from the outfield.

by SaltyGoesYard on Jun 18, 2008 10:01 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

except he got to home from the outfield, it just wasnt accurate

exactly.....

For the first month of the season, when a guy was on second and the ball was hit to Hamilton, I would yell over to my wife…”Honey, watch this!! Hamilton is gonna gun this dude down!!”

Since the beginning of May, I always cringe now when I see a ball hit out to Hamilton when a guy is on second. I keep having a reason to cringe because I can’t recall the last time he made a great throw.

...that should have been an out.

...but so should the first batter of the 9th…

by oc on Jun 18, 2008 10:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

maybe

he’s not as used to throwing from RF?

by tangiers on Jun 18, 2008 9:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

fuck that...

...the way we’re going right now, we’ll have to revamp our entire bullpen….. ALONG with our rotation.

not one dependable arm out there right now.

No Madrigal yet

Guardado for now.

by cmkelly29 on Jun 18, 2008 10:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

bullpen prospects

Madrigal in AAA, Laughter in AA, Beau Jones in A+. Brennan Garr if he ever decides to stop walking guys. That’s the extent of potential farm replacement.

by FirebatM3 on Jun 18, 2008 10:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Loe?

I would like to see Rupe get some middle relief innings. Maybe CJ’s problem is that he doesn’t have Loe as his roomate anymore. So I agree, bring up Kameron Loe!

Bullpen post-Benoit injury

LR/Spot Starter – Loe (yes, good enough for one trip around the lineup)
L/MR – Rupe
MR/SU – Wright
SU – Wilson
SU/CL – Madrigal
CL – Guardado
