benoit and wilson
took huge steps backwards. and fuku did shit.
guardado and wright have pretty much been saviors.
I think frankie/german delivered what was expected of them

I expected more out of Benoit
And I thought we’d be getting a lot more from Fuku. This is about what I expected from Siege. The guy is so miscast right now.
The guy who’s really disappointed me though is Fx2. I thought he’d be taking over closer duties by mid season. He’s got really good stuff in him somewhere and I figured this would be the year he finally unleashed it.

heh
there were people on this board that did predict pen failure.
think about the fact that we all expected good things from fukumori – and he never once pitched a solid inning for the rangers.
all downhill from there.

I think everyone figured the pen would be decent
I don’t think anyone saw CJ falling off the horse. Benoit was either going to be great, or suck. He sucks. Rupe – eh. Mathis, no thanks. Francisco is too incosistent. Why Franklyn German isn’t still here… who knows.
Wright and Guardado have been decent though.

The starting rotation
didn’t give the team enough innings last year (should have signed Lilly or Suppan) which is probably why the bully is sucking this year.

Are you fucking serious?
after all that bitching your solution is actually to sign Lilly or Suppan? Even with the advantage of Hindsight? Really? Lilly? Suppan?

Maybe your knuckles
are still dragging on the ground and the concept is beyond your grasp, but trust me, there is value in soaking up innings and posting every 5th day.

And your solution
to that is obviously sign two guys who average 6 and 5.6 innings per start respectively, despite playing in the NL?
If all we needed was guy who can suck for 200 innings a year, they’re easy to find. Just look at Sidney Ponson. Hell, our AAA arms can suck as much as Ted Lilly and Jeff Suppan sucks. Spending money on pitchers who happen to suck is a pretty good way to guarantee that your team will continue to suck.
No more paying for 5th starters. We’d be better off blowing the bank on Sabathia and assembling a rotation from there.
Geez, Suppan and Lilly. That was beautiful

Lilly went 15-8 last year with an ERA below
4 while Suppan had close to 20 quality starts last year and an ERA below 5.
Both pitchers were healthy and had more than 200 IP’s last year.
Very good investments for both the Cubs & Brewers and either would have helped last year’s Rangers team and this year’s Ranger team on several levels (notably the bullpen)..

they are both signed to their age 36 seasons
As I said, if I wanted to find guys that can be mediocre for 200 innings, you can use your minors guys. Scott Feldman can be mediocre for 200 innings, and he costs a lot less. Paying 20 million for 2 guys who are utterly unremarkable is a bad way to build a team.

He threw out someone early in the year and we all thought….WOW!! I can’t remember another time he actually made a strong AND accurate throw to home??

exactly.....
For the first month of the season, when a guy was on second and the ball was hit to Hamilton, I would yell over to my wife…”Honey, watch this!! Hamilton is gonna gun this dude down!!”
Since the beginning of May, I always cringe now when I see a ball hit out to Hamilton when a guy is on second. I keep having a reason to cringe because I can’t recall the last time he made a great throw.
