Gibbons Gone in Toronto
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3454016
John Gibbons has been fired in Toronto. They are bringing back Cito Gaston along with several guys who used to be on his old coaching staff. One has to wonder how long JP Ricciardi has. You know this probably wasn't his decision. He probably won't be too far behind. I can't believe they brought Cito back, though. I thought Gerry Fraley said that Buck might take over.

CITO!
I always loved that guy, for some reason.

if Gibbons and Ricciardi go, Buck might be next. One down, one to go.

Toronto is different than Seattle
in that they have a good amount of good parts at the major league level. I don’t see them as being as far away as the Mariners to the point where they need to tear it down and start over.

Gaston
There is a pretty good discussion over at BTF about Gaston. Essentially they think he would be a great fit for a few teams, but probably not the Blue Jays. Gaston, they say, is a player’s manager. He runs out the same lineup night after night, and will defend the players on the field no matter what. Assuming you have a quality team, this seems like a reasonable strategy. When the Blue Jays’ talent diminished during Gaston’s first tenure, he did not have the ability to “shake things up” and get more out of team. Somebody said something along the lines that, as far as retreads go, one could do a lot worse than Gaston.
Apparently, the team also hired a bunch of other coaches from the ‘93 team; now that sounds like a reach.

I just wish
They would bring back the old blue and white hats and the old uniforms.
