Mendoza up, Mathis to the d.l.
Doug Mathis has been put on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. Luis Mendoza has been called up to take his place.
Interesting call up. I didn't realize Mathis was hurting. And I would have thought that Kam Loe would have been more likely to be called up, for a bullpen role, than Mendoza, who has been starting all year.

Irritating
I’d have like to have seen Mendoza get another shot at starting the way he has been pitching lately. Seems to be the same thing they did to Tejeda.

how is this anything like Tejeda?
They are calling up Mendoza I guess to try and shore up the bullpen. He still has options. He’s probably next in line to get a spot start. I guess if Gabbard starts struggling again while Mendoza is strong in the bullpen, the Rangers will also not hesitate to give Mendoza a rotation spot again. A bit of healthy competition might help Gabbard though.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Simply
Mendoza was pitching well as a starter. Tejeda was pitching well as a starter. They called both up to pitch out of the pen. Nothing more nothing less.

Loe unavailable
Loe started yesterday (6/19) and went 4 innings (69 pitches) vs Nashville. He probably wouldn’t have been available to pitch until Sunday.

After bungling the Benoit thing
I’m relieved to know that the front office remembered that we had a DL where we wouldn’t have to go 11 days with essentially 24 men on the roster.

not all on the front office
JD is not a doctor. I can almost guarantee you, especially the way our bullpen has been taxed the last 6 weeks, that the last thing JD or Washington wanted to do was be a man short out there. Benoit probably didn’t tell them exactly how badly he was hurt sorta like Mendoza did earlier this year.
