Need another series victory...
It would be nice to see Padzilla get that 10th win as well. Could he be on his way to the All-Star game if he reaches 11 victories and still has a ERA under 4 by the break?
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Quite possible
but then, who of the current crop of Rangers does he push off?

Well right now...
I can see Hamilton and Kinsler going for sure. MY and Board Game I think are still possible but who knows.
Padilla is the only pitcher that has a shot at going, but given his numbers I could see him being one of the starters selected.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Right
but how many on a .500 team are going to be invited? Keens & Hammy=lock. MY & MB III=50%? Padz=80%?
Interesting conjecture, nonetheless.

Well if they want to go with the players
that at least somewhat deserve it, those are the guys they are going to have to pick
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
He has a chance
There are people that love seeing those wins and a win today ties him for second most in the AL. He has a good ERA and people always think that the Ballpark inflates pitcher’s numbers by 2.00 points so that could work for him too. I don’t know if he deserves it, but there’s a chance it happens.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
with the numbers put up
Why wouldnt he deserve it?
by blueballlefty on Jun 22, 2008 12:17 PM CDT up reply actions
yeah the ERA is important.....
...... but I think with 10+ wins, thats what would put him over the top!
by blueballlefty on Jun 22, 2008 12:20 PM CDT up reply actions
more deserving candidates
There are a lot of guys who have put up better ERAs, WHIPs, and more Ks. I don’t see a lot of those guys being able to keep their low ERAs throughout the season, but for the first half alone, Padilla doesn’t really deserve it.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I do agree
his K’s are a little low for him but if he gets 7 today it will move him up to the top 15-17 so thats pretty respectable, I am just so impressed with his turn around from last year this is a guy I was really down on and was ready to GIVE away, I think this was one of JD’s best non-moves ever when NYM and others tried to steal him for nothing!
by blueballlefty on Jun 22, 2008 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions
I've always been a Padilla supporter
He’s got the most talent on the staff right now, can easily pitch 6-7 innings each time out, and has the largest pair of cahones on the staff too. I love seeing him succeed this year.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Padilla
he’s 15th in the A.L. in ERA, and his peripherals aren’t good. He doesn’t deserve to go.

Do you think Ramirez jumps ahead of Davis if..
Ramirez makes a splash first. Also, who is better (or better put, less bad haha) behind the plate ramirez or salty?
No
But I do think that if Max can come up and play 1B at a decent level and hit then that would allow the Rangers to keep Davis in OKC a little while longer and let him keep working on some stuff. Davis is still the long term answer at 1B.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Long-term I think
Smoak is the answer at 1B but we got at least two years before that is a possibility. A trade is going to have to go down at some point. We don’t have enough room for Smoak, Davis and Ramirez (assuming Ramirez won’t catch), unless Davis could go to the OF.
Asumming they all pan out.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
True
You gotta be able to figure out which ones will and get optimal value for the ones that you don’t think will.
I've always thought
With the Ballparks RF being rather on the small side that we could have someone like Davis playing RF at least until he’s 30 and starts to lose some of his quickness. Especially if we have a ++ defender in CF like Borbon projects to be that can cover significant ground.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
He definitely fits in RF...or CF,
But if they needed to move Davis to the OF, Hamilton could play LF….not sure Davis could.
hamilton cannot play LF
or, even if he could, you wouldn’t want him to. too much ground to cover
Rare Gnats Sex
I'm not saying to move Hamilton to LF
I’m saying under the proposed scenario of moving Davis to the OF…Hamilton would be the one of the 2 who could handle LF.
Seriously?
Hamilton can’t play LF but can play CF? Might wanna re-think that.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
you don't want him running around out there
LF in the ballpark is a lot harder to cover
Rare Gnats Sex
Davis
Yea a little to much ground for him out there in LF.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Seems like we have too many people
and it’s obvious we are going to have to trade someone (salty, Teagarden, Max Ram) in a deal for a SP.
well
we’re going to have to trade a catcher anyway. But also, we’re going to have to trade someone out of MaxRam, Davis, Smoak. But that trade doesn’t need to happen until a little later
Rare Gnats Sex
Between RF/1B/Ca/DH
You have the 3 you mentioned, Davis, JMJ, Blalock, Cruz, maybe Smoak, maybe Bradley….there are going to be some moves
That is one of the reasons I am a proponent of trading Bradley
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Ohh but I think you can probably knock Cruz and Blalock off that list soon.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Cruz's AAA numbers this year
continue to amaze me. How he can’t transition some of that to the big leagues is unfortunate. Specifically his .1172 OPS!
I'd like to see him get another shot
Just for my own reassurance that he won’t go on somewhere else and find success. Isn’t he turning 29 next month though? Or 28?
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
He's old for AAA
If we fall out of the race this year I can’t see why we wouldn’t give him another shot in the OF. Give him a legit shot (20 games or so) if nothing happens, then you have a little better idea about him.
To me he would need the everyday RF job
He just doesn’t seem like a good fit for the bench/platoon. Not sure that spot will be open this year.
Well
The cynic in me says by then he will be approaching FA or high arbitration years and it will be time to move him. But I really do hope we can lock him up long term. He does have the ability to play LF. One thing about RBiA is that the the OF is kind of reversed. RF plays more like LF in most parks and LF plays more like RF in most parks. For some reason there is more ground to cover in LF at RBiA than at most parks.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Who's to say Volquez would have signed here or been the player he is?
But I’m confident we will lock him up.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Yea assuming he became a stud here.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Okay...
I mean it’s a good assumption I think. If he couldn’t it would have been the Rangers fault for giving him those stupid Volquez rules and not giving him enough shots in the big leagues.
The whole arm slot thing still bothers me.
But he looked awfully filthy in NY the other. For that matter all year…
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
locking up hamilton is a foregone conclusion
he’s the most fan friendly player of this generation – maybe since nolan ryan.
Rare Gnats Sex
Maybe if Max does well at 1B in the big leagues
they keep him there, try Davis at RF in AAA, and trade Blalock.
I know.......
.... I have read that Davis has a monster arm,but I dont know if he could field well enough to play the OF, but I think everyone needs to let Smoak sign before we start calling him the future!

Lineup up
Ooh… I like the new “enter a link” thing that gives you the option to have it open in a new window.
Anyways… I hope Max Ramirez doesn’t have as much trouble hitting while playing 1B as Salty says he did.
Meh
It makes sense to rest an OF when you have a day game on Sundays. Especially as well as Byrd as been playing and Boggs needing to see some time.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Byrd is really
on fire lately. Good for him, let’s get him to a contender soon.

Doubt its much of a trend
I think that Murphy will get his days off when there is a lefty on the mound, but I wouldn’t expect him to sit out against all lefty starters or be pinch hit against a lefty like Cat is.

Online Subscription
I’ve been thinking about signing up for Scout($80yr), Baseball Prospectus($40yr), or Baseball America($65yr). I’ve got ESPN Insider and Rivals.com subscriptions already and had some extra coin this summer. Baseball Prospectus seems like a really good deal compared to the other two but I don’t know really know the pros and cons and was wondering if you guys had some input.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
Don't have a subscription to any of them
But if you like stats and in-depth analysis of all things baseball, I’d say BP is probably the way to go. I’ve been considering getting a subscription to them next year.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Thanks
I’m leaning towards BP just for the price alone. It’s not that I couldn’t afford the others I guess I’m just looking for a reason why those are so much more.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
I've never seen
much info at Scout or BA that really amazed me. A lot of good scouting reports type of stuff, but I’d rather just buy a preseason book and have that with me than spend the money for a subscription there.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

This lineup today

Young - 3B
Hamilton - CF
Ramirez - DH
Davis - 1B
JMJ - RF
Teagarden or Laird - C

Yeah
Adam is one those people that want Salty gone.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I don't want him gone
However, I do think he has more trade value than the other 3 catchers we have, and I think that makes more likely to be dealt.
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 22, 2008 12:47 PM CDT up reply actions
Bowden
he’s not a high ceiling pitcher, he’s only in AA, and you are putting in Bradley into that deal too. The Rangers can take the 2 picks for Bradley and easily find a higher ceiling pitcher in return for Salty
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
2 picks in the
first couple of rounds of the draft are better than packaging him with Salty for Bowden
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
salty was a better prospect than bowden coming into the season
using him AND our bradley to get bowden is selling low on salty and using our best 2 trade chips on one player who wasnt considered top tier coming into the season.
if you are trading those two for one pitcher, it has to be someone with MLB success or an elite prospect. one half season of looking great in AA doesnt make bowden that guy.
Bring up Chris Davis
I'm not sure what kind of trade value you're going to get for Bradley
hopefully a lot but he doesn’t have a great track record of hitting like this or staying healthy. So maybe it is best to hold on to him and get 2 picks for him. I would love to try to trade him if we can get a quality arm and then resign him at the end of the season.
it certainly would be if the alternative is michael bowden for
salty and bradley. awful.
Bring up Chris Davis
On the other hand
Don’t you think that there is a good reason he has more value than the other 3? Like, he’s the best of all the catching options…
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Not to mention that while he may have the most value
His value is low in relation to where it has been. Ramirez’s value is high. Teagarden’s is probably close to where it should be. And Laird’s was inflated until yesterday.
It's all about depth
and packages.

All that’s happened is a couple of ok looking chicks have followed me around like lost puppies. I mean, the nerve! Don’t they know who I am? Like I would lower my standards and cavort with “normal” ladies…HA!!
I just don’t understand where all the hotties are….Where I came from, they grew on trees. Literally. My Daddy bought these trees from Australia called HottieFiscus and grew them in our giant backyard. I had hotties all to myself. They knew who I was and what I am about.
I’m going to go get a new haircut. I hear that does the trick.

I'd really like to see what these "ok looking chicks" look like...
I have a feeling miles is sitting around waiting for a super model to throw themselves at him.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
isn't college about
knocking out ok looking chicks all the time, since when does a freshman get to gripe about the looks of chicks “following him around” he should just be happy they noticed he was there!

Because one was hit by a pitcher
and the other wasn’t. The official scorer wants to be all cute and give it to the pitcher.

-The Outlaw
The DC guys said it was probably because the throw would've beat him by 6-8 feet if it hadn't sailed, while the other play was close
which isn't true
and you have to think that the innaccuracy of the throw has something to do with the velocity

I’m doing some stand up in New Mexico a couple weeks ago and I had a Barry Bonds joke that I was trying out. The premise of the joke revolved around Bonds and how he’s never taken roids.
