Blalock return delayed.........AGAIN
Are you f***in kidding me?
I don't even really care anymore. He was an average player at best and with Davis et al in the wings we need to trade him for anything at this point. I like the guy but damn. Is it too much to ask him to stay on the field and not get CTS by giving himself a stranger? Apparently so.
http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/06/blalock-and-laird-updates.html
Hank Blalock will not play tonight for Triple-A Oklahoma tonight. He jammed his right hand diving for a ball Sunday night, but it is not believed to have damaged anything that was fixed in his surgery last month. He may play on Tuesday, but if so, it's going to be for Oklahoma. He will not be activated.

The Negativity is justified
But at this point, if this team is going to contend, I’d much rather see Blalock at first or DH for that matter when Bradley is healthy, then the likes of Shelton and Cat. And for Davis, once he is ready, can’t he just go into a DH/ 1B combo with Blalock??
First Hurley, now Max, and eventually, Davis. man for the first time in a while, it sure feels good to be a Ranger’s fan.
by hinduplaya on Jun 23, 2008 8:55 PM CDT 0 recs
Not as long as Bradley is here.
His DH time will be severely limited. One of them (Hank or Davis) has to go, and at this point, it’s not hard to guess which one it will be…

and his carpal tunnel was supposed to have him out one weekend
and before that it took him 2 extra weeks to come back from the ham string when originally planned. and of course, hes rebounding from missing the great majority of last year.
the last 2 seasons are getting a little ridiculous.

Anyone else see the blurb in a recent Sports Illustrated
that linked HGH to carpal tunnel syndrome?
It was also mentioned in this old article:
“The risks of HGH use are abundant, including diabetes, muscle and joint pain, hypertension, carpal tunnel syndrome, abnormal enlargement of organs and advancement of cardiovascular diseases.”

Yeah, same.
It never really occurred to me until I saw it in last week’s SI, or whenever that was. Then I started looking around, and I guess it’s a pretty common side effect. I’m actually surprised that none of the local writers brought it up. I mean, I guess they can’t come out with a headline that says “Is Blalock on HGH?” But, anyways, it worried me.

PTBNL
August deals used to be somewhat common. I think teams are now blocking waiver wire deals more often now. Trading Laird in August for the infamous PTBNL could happen. My money is on an offseason deal.

why?
Why would Laird be untradeable? Its only a hamstring injury. Those are just natural injuries that generally don’t keep you from returning to your old form. If he was a speedy guy then that may be one thing but as a catcher it shouldn’t keep him from being traded. Its not going to hurt his throwing.

Baseball is littered with 3B
who were supposed to be the next big thing than fizzled out due to injuries and other issues. Seems like there was a whole crop of 3B that came up around the same time as Hank who fizzled.

Put a fork in him...
He’s done. Maxram DH- Davis first base….we probably could wait to bring him up but as long as they don’t think it will stunt his progress then let him ride out the rest of the year because he can’t be much worst then what we got.

You know it amazes me
How many people are saying “Blalock’s done” or “he’s only an average player at best”.
Obviously the freak injuries and conditions he’s come up with the last couple seasons have derailed his production and his career in Texas, but he’s only going to turn 28 in November – while he may not be a young hotshot player like the ones this team is building upon right now, I think he has an excellent shot at revitalizing his career elsewhere. And he’s not an “average player at best”, either – he had a couple seasons back in ‘03 and ‘04 where he was among the best, if not the best offensive 3B in the AL.
Sorry if it seems like I’m ranting, but Hank has done a lot for this team, and he hasn’t been the egotist that Mark Teixeira and even Michael Young have been. I’ll admit some bias, because he’s always been a favorite of mine, but I just don’t like seeing people blasting him for no good reason while he’s on his way out.
by BlackHawk125 on Jun 24, 2008 2:52 AM CDT 0 recs
Mark Teixeira and Mike Young Play Baseball
Hank Blalock does not. He sits on the DL whereas those guys hardly ever miss a game. Before this injury bug hit him, he’d become nothing but a hacker.
In short, for a long time he’s been part of the problem, not the solution. Good teams replace problem players with productive ones. Blalock may very well go on to be successful somewhere else, but I sure would bet six million dollars a year on it.

Is that possible and where the hell is BMac? Wasn’t it like 3 months ago he went down again. I’m starting to wonder if either of them will be back this year. What a waste!!

RHP Brandon McCarthy, who has been out all season with right forearm inflammation, threw off a mound in Arizona Monday for the first time since early April. McCarthy is hoping to return to the rotation shortly after the All-Star break.
