Untimely hitting late with RISP

hahaha well kinda
a bear is exactly the opposite of what I like.
A heavy set really hairy guy.. I can’t have that I get hairballs like a cat.
Just imagine the opposite of Ryan Phillipe.

Yo dawg.
Hip as you may be, maybe you should leave the epithets to others.

i'm asking someone who is comfortable using the word...
by oc on Jun 24, 2008 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions
Does that work with
Any other group?
I’m pretty sure that rationale is routinely shot down across all categories.
by brettgardner on Jun 24, 2008 7:12 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes.
Mostly because I don’t see much difference between that and any other spiteful epithet, and the fact that you included it in the context you did, to LAMF, struck me as exceedingly boorish and rude, attributes which do offend me.
by brettgardner on Jun 24, 2008 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions
that's too bad...
...that word was tossed around pretty loosely this weekend on a job i was working on… by the person i was working for… who just so happened to be what i’m inquiring about…
i suppose “gay fat man” is a more PC way of putting it… is that more to your internet standards?
by oc on Jun 24, 2008 7:28 PM CDT up reply actions
No standards.
At least none that you have to abide by. You’re free to say what you like, as am I.

Hurely pithing in Houston....
I see him giving up at least 3 HRs….lets hope they are solo shots.
Hopefully we hit a few ourselves.
BTW do we hit every teams #1 starter?
No.
Lineup:
1. Ian Kinsler
2. Frank Catalanotto
3. Michael Young
4. Josh Hamilton
5. Marlon Byrd
6. David Murphy
7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia
8. Ramon Vazquez
9. Eric Hurley

I thought Bradley
was coming back for this series?
I know fans and players love him
but he must be traded while his value is highest. Don’t let your heart outrule your head JD. Talk to Boston and Tampa, one of them is going to want his bat down the stretch.
Last year one of the best things
was the perceived bidding wars going on for Teixeira and Gagne. Supposed offers were popping up all over for both players and, in the end, it allowed JD to be in the driver’s seat for both deals. It’s all about timing, and if JD can create another bidding war over Milton, Padilla, or Millwood…the likelihood of a deal will definitely increase.
Millwood and Padilla
Why are people so eager to get rid of our two best and most consistant pitchers. Granted if a team wants to overwhelm us with a primo package it would be foolish to turn it down but for a fanbase that complains about pitching so much to want to trade away two guys who have been pretty darn good for us this year and two years ago it kinda baffles me
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I am not saying that either one needs to be trading
but…if a few teams decide either of those guys are the piece they need to put them over the top and offer the Rangers big time packages…you at least consider it. I am thrilled with Padilla’s year and this post-DL Millwood.
It needs to be a nice haul for....
Bradley to be delt. We need a teams top prospect back, or i don’t deal him.
There's no way you'll get Price
out of Tampa but they have several other nice options to choose from, especially if you can get more than a one on one for him. Quality and quantity both count.

No walks!
Yeah but at least when Hurley is on the mound and gives up that bomb, 90% of the time its with no one on base. He has good command. He will learn how to keep it down. He has to. But again, id rather give up a bomb after no walks and no one on than the occasional bomb with two on. Hurley’s a keeper. He will get there for sure!!
Lets bring that BOOT back home!!!
I like that and of course

decent throw by Murphy

Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
Murphy really should have thrown to the cut off man
He wasn’t making that throw.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
How in the hell do they keep pulling those outside pitches so well?
That’s two batters in a row.
With 1st base open...
even with a not so great #8 hitter, you cannot make that pitch with the pitcher on deck. You don’t give him anything to hit
rookie mistake
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
It happens
He will learn from situations like that…it’s not like he has a lot of experience with a pitcher hitting
Oh I know
But that is also a spot where Salty, or any catcher realy, should probably come out and let the young guy know that. Its cool. All a learning experience for the guy
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
The Rangers will take back the lead this inning
with a 2 run HR from Kinsler

I predict
a Hurley HR.
"Point is I could have had them if I wanted. But I DO NOT lower my standards. Do they know who I am? Do they know my status? Thats what I thought." -miles

The Astros were just hitting them really well.
Of course, I don’t know all that much.
It doesn't look like anything much to worry about
That grounder was pretty perfectly placed between Young and Vazquez. Those hits will happen but unless they’re piling on, that inning isn’t too much cause for concern.

Double Clutch
Has anyone else noticed how big Salty’s hands are? I wonder if that is why he double clutches so much is because it’s harder to find the grip on the ball

where salts throws a runner out?

He was just building up a poor reputation
to have runners run on him more. With his amazing talent, he knew he’d get all of them out and clear the bases on his own and all he had to do was a let a few runners steal on him earlier in the season.

arm strength
I don’t know that throw did bounce a decent bit in front of the bag. Wonder if his arm strength before was a product of his slower footwork. Not trying to bag on the guy just pointing something out

Or he knows
that limiting a rookie to a platoon role pretty much guarantees that he’ll never be anything more than a platoon player.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I don't...
...... think they should platoon him but I would like to see him get a day off against tough lefties and moved down in the order against the rest of them!
by blueballlefty on Jun 24, 2008 8:06 PM CDT up reply actions
That's my thinking
Pretty much just make sure his off days lineup with the tough lefties and don’t try putting too much pressure on him by putting him in the middle of the lineup against lefties.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
That makes sense
But Murphy hasn’t hit lefties in the minors or the majors, and we’ve got Byrd and Boggs who can kill lefties on the bench. Like it or not, that’s a platoon waiting to happen.
Murphy
hasn’t hit anyone like he has in the Majors. If he wasn’t so impressive against righties this year, I’d have no problem platooning him and saying that’s that. He’s just been such a great surprise for the Rangers, I think they need to give him every chance to succeed as a full time player before he goes into a full time platoon.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I am more than happy with
his high GB rate and low BB rate while he works out his delivery. I can wait for the velocity and Ks.
does everybody
think its a good plan from the management to draft a Strikeout pitcher and try to teach him to pitch to contact?
by blueballlefty on Jun 24, 2008 8:19 PM CDT up reply actions
don't know if they're really teaching him that
just trying to get him to be more consistent with his delivery. The pitch to contact thing is mainly for the guys that don’t have the stuff to overpower hitters.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I thought
he said something after his first start to the effect of we are going to work on my pitching to contact. I could be wrong but I really think I remember that.
by blueballlefty on Jun 24, 2008 8:22 PM CDT up reply actions
Maybe
But its not going to be to the extent of a Kam Loe or Kason Gabbard. Every pitcher at some point learns that he needs to be alright with giving the hitters something to hit if they can’t make good contact.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I think it's more about him learning to repeat his delivery
than teaching him to pitch to contact. The fact he is pitching well without his velocity is a statement to the type of pitcher he could be when he gets it back
I think
people are happy a guy who has had to retool his delivery is able to keep the ball over the plate enough to either get people to hit the ball or at the very least not walk somebody. Like was said once his velocity comes back, which it will, the Ks will rise

slow down...
volquez has pitched beyond the “fluke” phase.
10-2 1.71 in 16 starts.
his “slump” is 3-0 2.33 in june – compare that to hammy
i love hamilton and think the rangers did awesome, but i could see a time when this trade shifts to be a better deal for CIN – just not quite yet. let’s see if hamilton can make it through a season.
by sam in so cal on Jun 24, 2008 8:43 PM CDT up reply actions
Nope
Take Hammy out of this lineup and even with Bradley nobody is doing close to what they are doing right now.
Add that to Volquez not being able to sustain a 2 ERA in the AL and pitching in Arlington and I would rather have Hammy.

do you wonder...
how much MB batting behind hamilton helps?
just a side question – not saying that hamilton sucks or anything.
by sam in so cal on Jun 24, 2008 8:49 PM CDT up reply actions
no it helps Bradley
He is able to either be more selective because Hammy has knocked the guys on base in, or he gets good pitches to hit because a couple of the guys in front of him are already on. Not a knock on the guy at all but he is in probably one of the best hitting spots in the majors in this lineup.
