Ponson speaks, denies most of what's been said

NY Post

MOOSIC, Pa. - Sidney Ponson can be big trouble for opposing hitters and an even bigger pain in the backside for his own team.

That is the unofficial scouting report on the 31-year-old right-hander as he prepares to join the Yankees for maybe the biggest start of his career, against the Mets in Friday's split doubleheader.

Ponson says he hasn't been told which game he'll pitch, but is thankful for at least one more major league opportunity after a messy divorce from the Rangers .

"I'm just going to be low key," Ponson told The Post yesterday after a workout with the Yankees' Triple-A team at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. "I told [general manager] Brian Cashman that he doesn't have to worry about me. He's not going to hear nothing about me. I'll be a ghost if possible."

-----

Basically, he says the following:

1)Nothing happened at the hotel bar in St. Petersburg.

2)He never disrespected his teammates.

3)He and Ron Washington did not see eye to eye.

I find it hard to believe myself, considering that this is his standard response to getting in trouble, it's never his fault.

Right

the Rangers just dumped one of their best starters for no good reason. Ummm, no.

How can he think he can say this stuff and get away with it?

by Parman on Jun 25, 2008 1:06 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

let's see

his story is that the only reason he was released is that he did not see eye to eye with ron washington, the manager who has very little job security himself. if there is any truth to that, than JD needs to go, but I’m pretty sure it’s impossible for that to be true. The Rangers don’t just release one of their star pitchers and get nothing back unless some really really bad things were said and done. ron isn’t buck, i don’t think he has the ability to unilaterally fire anyone.

I agree with Sidney

What were we thinking? Hicks should fire JD and Nolan Ryan…

Seems to be par for the course...

among people with drinking problems… i.e., their drinking didn’t cause something to happen, it was something else. If it were the drinking, maybe he’d have to stop…
