I really feel like he'll bust out of this slump

Maybe that’s overly optimistic…I just refuse to believe his start was a fluke. He’s more talented than he has appeared lately.

by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 7:02 PM CDT up reply actions

The BA may trend back up

but…his OBP is a major cause for concern. He has shown he can be a solid run producer, but he has yet to exhibit the ability to get on base at a decent clip.

I'm watching ...

... the Sox-D’backs game on ESPN right now to kill time before the game starts, and Buck Showalter is one of the analysts. His voice and the way he talks still gives me the creeps.

Put it on ESPN instead of ESPN2

by SaltyGoesYard on Jun 25, 2008 6:53 PM CDT up reply actions

We're up 2-0 right now

So far, so good, but as the first two games of this best-of-three series have shown, no lead is safe.

by Inkara1 on Jun 25, 2008 6:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I know.

It’s kind of surreal. Good and bad. I went to law school at the U, so enjoyed the 2002 Rose Bowl, but I’m still bent on that 2003 Fiesta Bowl. I was sitting on the floor for 10 minutes when they stuffed Dorsey to end the game.

Still didn’t compare to watching the Rangers in the playoffs. I lived and died with almost every pitch.

I went to OU and it is hard to stomach. You get excited and pumped up then something happens and you feel like you get a kick to the nuts. But hey I’ve seen 4 NT so I can’t complain.

too bad one

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions

who cares they

are both around for the same amount of time

by blueballlefty on Jun 25, 2008 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions

The point is

one is likely to get better, the other is what he is.

Or is that concept too difficult for you?

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions

They've both had

approximately the same amount of time in the majors, so I don’t think age really applies here.

by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Like I said above

it matters in that the younger player has more of a chance to get better than the older player.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions

not really

you made a bad arguement, someone 24 isnt going to improve much more than someone 27 if they have the same servicetime

by blueballlefty on Jun 25, 2008 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions

So the only thing that your ability to improve depends on

is service time?

So you could be a 35 year old with 1 year of service time and have the same ability to get better as a 18 year old?

Gotcha.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions

There's more difference

between 18 and 35 than there is in 24 and 26 (David’s age)

by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:20 PM CDT up reply actions

And...Pence is 25

There’s only about 18 months difference in their age.

by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Fair enough

I thought murph was almost 27 and pence was still 24.

I shoulda known, he was in my high school class at AHS.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Obviously so

but his only argument was service time.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:22 PM CDT up reply actions

for the record

im not saying id take murphy over pence or anything. just noting how similar their numbers were, and how similar they were a month ago before each started slumping and such.

and they are both lefties with similar body types and weird swings and such.

just making an on the surface observation.

Still

He was a RP pretty much his entire pro career and probably isn’t good to go the same amount of innings as guys like Millwood or Padilla can over a full season. I’m not saying he won’t be able to pitch great the rest of the season, but I can see him struggling a bit in July and the team shutting him down for a bit to protect his arm. And of course there is the possibility (though I believe it is very unlikely) that he simply loses it over the next couple of months.

Here's the story

Heading into my 2L year, I volunteered to come out to orientation to help mentor and show around the new 1Ls. At the end of the orientation, they always have someone come talk about being a lawyer, and this year, it was Racehorse Haynes.

At the orientation, I started talking about how the reason Racehorse Haynes was so successful was because he had a great lawyer nickname, “Racehorse.” I decided I needed a great lawyer nickname, and I picked 8-ball.

I said I was going to be a criminal lawyer, and have ads on late at night, saying, “In jail? 8-Ball will get you out. Are you getting off on those charges…all signs point to yes!”

I was doing it as a joke, but a lot of my friends at law school started calling me that, and some still refer to me as such.

knee jerking would be if a player has been bad for a couple games.

murphy’s on base percentage on the year is now at or below .300. that’s worse than everybody besides duran. worse than botts was.

he’s hitting .270 now. that’s not bad if you can get on base, or have good power numbers.

i’m not saying DFA him, i’m saying maybe he shouldn’t play everday.
