rangers win 5-2
yep.
murphy goes yard
and also, he’ll get thrown out at 3rd

NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
no fair
I just assumed salty would be in there vs a righty and with half our power hitters out.
Bring up Chris Davis
you lose he plays 1st
if the lineup has not changed since 3:40
The lineup is:
2B Ian Kinsler
3B Ramon Vazquez
SS Michael Young
RF David Murphy
CF Marlon Byrd
1B Frank Catalanotto
C Max Ramirez
LF Brandon Boggs
P Scott Feldman
that's bolder
than my predictions.
well played.
http://www.buchanan4pres2008.org/
NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
well the giants still manage to score runs here and there.
a lineup not much worse than that put up 33 last year.
who knows. should have gone 6-2 or 6-3 though…
Bring up Chris Davis
Ew...
Not sold on Mendoza. Maybe Guardado.
by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 7:03 PM CDT up reply actions
lineup ain't that bad
2B Ian Kinsler .303
3B Ramon Vazquez .331
SS Michael Young .278
RF David Murphy .273 (his obp is only 4 pts higher than kinsler’s avg)
CF Marlon Byrd .256
1B Frank Catalanotto .276
C Max Ramirez .000
LF Brandon Boggs .266
P Scott Feldman .500
murphy needs to work on that OBP
http://www.buchanan4pres2008.org/
NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
I really feel like he'll bust out of this slump
Maybe that’s overly optimistic…I just refuse to believe his start was a fluke. He’s more talented than he has appeared lately.
by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 7:02 PM CDT up reply actions
The BA may trend back up
but…his OBP is a major cause for concern. He has shown he can be a solid run producer, but he has yet to exhibit the ability to get on base at a decent clip.

Stand in the place where you are.....
.... think about direction and wonder why you haven’t now….

There is no such thing as global warming. David Murphy was cold, so he turned the sun up.
This is the part of the news broadcast where they tell you
If you have a weak stomach, or are easily offended, please turn away.
For those of you still watching, we will continue with tonights broadcast of the Rangers game.
or we have weak stomachs because we are Rangers fans
works both ways…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
I'm watching ...
... the Sox-D’backs game on ESPN right now to kill time before the game starts, and Buck Showalter is one of the analysts. His voice and the way he talks still gives me the creeps.
Put it on ESPN instead of ESPN2
You’ll see Georgia-Fresno State going for the national title. I went to Fresno State, so I have an emotional investment in this one.

We're up 2-0 right now
So far, so good, but as the first two games of this best-of-three series have shown, no lead is safe.
I know.
It’s kind of surreal. Good and bad. I went to law school at the U, so enjoyed the 2002 Rose Bowl, but I’m still bent on that 2003 Fiesta Bowl. I was sitting on the floor for 10 minutes when they stuffed Dorsey to end the game.
Still didn’t compare to watching the Rangers in the playoffs. I lived and died with almost every pitch.

I went to OU and it is hard to stomach. You get excited and pumped up then something happens and you feel like you get a kick to the nuts. But hey I’ve seen 4 NT so I can’t complain.

So seriously Berkman throws a bat 30 rows deep and wants that same bat back
He needs to take a page from Hamilton and let them keep the original.
Well, some guys are superstitous about their bats
That’s probably the same one he cracked that homer with last night. But I would hope he’d give the folks that caught it a different bat, and maybe autograph it in return.

too bad one
is 24 and the other is 27ish
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions
who cares they
are both around for the same amount of time
by blueballlefty on Jun 25, 2008 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions
The point is
one is likely to get better, the other is what he is.
Or is that concept too difficult for you?
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions
They've both had
approximately the same amount of time in the majors, so I don’t think age really applies here.
by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:12 PM CDT up reply actions
Like I said above
it matters in that the younger player has more of a chance to get better than the older player.
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions
not really
you made a bad arguement, someone 24 isnt going to improve much more than someone 27 if they have the same servicetime
by blueballlefty on Jun 25, 2008 8:15 PM CDT up reply actions
So the only thing that your ability to improve depends on
is service time?
So you could be a 35 year old with 1 year of service time and have the same ability to get better as a 18 year old?
Gotcha.
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:16 PM CDT up reply actions
There's more difference
between 18 and 35 than there is in 24 and 26 (David’s age)
by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:20 PM CDT up reply actions
And...Pence is 25
There’s only about 18 months difference in their age.
by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Fair enough
I thought murph was almost 27 and pence was still 24.
I shoulda known, he was in my high school class at AHS.
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:22 PM CDT up reply actions
Obviously so
but his only argument was service time.
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 8:22 PM CDT up reply actions
for the record
im not saying id take murphy over pence or anything. just noting how similar their numbers were, and how similar they were a month ago before each started slumping and such.
and they are both lefties with similar body types and weird swings and such.

Still
He was a RP pretty much his entire pro career and probably isn’t good to go the same amount of innings as guys like Millwood or Padilla can over a full season. I’m not saying he won’t be able to pitch great the rest of the season, but I can see him struggling a bit in July and the team shutting him down for a bit to protect his arm. And of course there is the possibility (though I believe it is very unlikely) that he simply loses it over the next couple of months.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I am wondering then why Duran got to pinch hit so early in the game
Maybe this means neither Hammy nor Milton is available
or maybey they just want to save our good pinch hitters
for when someone is on base, and take the chance on injuries.

But how many times did he bunt before Ron Buntington became our manager? Kinsler is really wasting AB’s when he does that, and Ron’s the one who’s taught him to do it.
It's probably Gerald Laird's fault.

8 ball.
That’s his hardass law nickname. Don’t fuck with him.

Here's the story
Heading into my 2L year, I volunteered to come out to orientation to help mentor and show around the new 1Ls. At the end of the orientation, they always have someone come talk about being a lawyer, and this year, it was Racehorse Haynes.
At the orientation, I started talking about how the reason Racehorse Haynes was so successful was because he had a great lawyer nickname, “Racehorse.” I decided I needed a great lawyer nickname, and I picked 8-ball.
I said I was going to be a criminal lawyer, and have ads on late at night, saying, “In jail? 8-Ball will get you out. Are you getting off on those charges…all signs point to yes!”
I was doing it as a joke, but a lot of my friends at law school started calling me that, and some still refer to me as such.

That's awesome.
You need to change your LSB id.
"Boy, that is a gutless, 6-foot-7, .200-hitting formerly good player. What a joke." -Tom Grieve RE: Richie Sexson
"Learned" (as in Learned Hand)
is another great nickname we had for a kid who dressed, acted, and spoke like he was a judge. Some of America’s most opinionated, irritating, and stuck up can be found in law school…

OMFT = One Man Five Tools
AKA Gerald Laird
by The Best Micah on Jun 25, 2008 8:42 PM CDT up reply actions
One Man...
5 Tools. It’s a play on his uniform number (#15) – he says he chose it because he’s one man with 5 tools.
And I have his autograph
signed Gerald Laird: OMFT. I still love it!
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I'm jealous
My autograph from him just says Gerald Laird 15

knee jerking?
knee jerking would be if a player has been bad for a couple games.
murphy’s on base percentage on the year is now at or below .300. that’s worse than everybody besides duran. worse than botts was.
he’s hitting .270 now. that’s not bad if you can get on base, or have good power numbers.
i’m not saying DFA him, i’m saying maybe he shouldn’t play everday.

so slightly above average still.

i think
adam has pointed out on here, and lots of us have agreed, that getting 100 rbi’s in a season does not mean you had a good year. it means you hit behind good hitters.
he’s slugging less than boggs. another bad game or 2 and he’s slugging less than laird.
his ops is like 7th on the team

Well
it is the best offense in the league with some of the best hitters in the league.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
He needs less time against lefties
But he does have 22 doubles and 10 HR, so he’s not exactly just a singles hitter.
I thought so too
He was all, “oh, poop!”

it seems like 1b's could keep their foot on the bag a bit longer if they wanted...
well, aside from when someone is on base and they have to be ready to throw or something.
Bring up Chris Davis
excellent work from Mendoza so far....
