What makes it cooler for us is that these kind of things are rare here

This is the first baseball title in school history and only the second team sport national championship in school history (softball 1998). Eight seniors are graduating from the team so this might be a once-in-a-lifetime thing… but it’s damn sweet right now.

Screw Oswalt, stick Mendoza at 1st base (where he is conveniently located now).

-The Outlaw

by Gdawg on Jun 25, 2008 9:05 PM CDT reply actions

You know

I’m wondering if Luis Mendoza is finding himself a new niche for his power-sinker as a bullpen guy. Since Feldman, Hurley, and eventually Harrison pretty much have the back of the rotation locked down, there probably won’t be a rotation spot for him anytime soon.

In the meantime, if he keeps pitching like this, Mendoza could prove pretty useful as another Jamey Wright in the bullpen – what do you guys think?

by LSJ on Jun 25, 2008 9:06 PM CDT reply actions

Kinda like

what KamLoe was supposed to be?

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

Because much like Kam, Mendoza’s sinker really doesn’t fool many people a second time through the order.

by LSJ on Jun 25, 2008 9:07 PM CDT up reply actions

the moral of that story is

don’t whine about not getting a call or expect that you got one.

So is Feldman a serious candidate for a staring role here in the future?

Or is he more of a reliever, spot starter type?

yeah im an idiot

if i’d rather see hurley, harrison, etc. in the rotation than Feldman next year…..

by slash on Jun 25, 2008 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

because Feldman has been so bad, he’s probably been our second to third best pitcher this year and could be better than that with more run starts and a lil more support!

by blueballlefty on Jun 25, 2008 9:15 PM CDT up reply actions

it has more to do with our prospects than feldman

and its saying more about our rotation if feldman has been our second to third best pitcher

by slash on Jun 25, 2008 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions

injuries happen

and feldman isnt the worst end of the rotation guy around.

by DShep on Jun 25, 2008 9:16 PM CDT up reply actions

i dont mind him spot starting or filling in…..but i’d rather see someone who has a future in our rotation hold a spot

by slash on Jun 25, 2008 9:18 PM CDT up reply actions

His last start, I said it looks like we've found something valuable

This start, to me, actually does more to confirm that than going seven innings. Even though it was a tough night for him, he still only gave up two runs and gave the team a chance to win.

Now, if four-inning starts become the norm, then there’s a problem… but once in a blue moon from a back-end guy I can handle.

Yeah, with Calderon, Ford was expendable.

And Indiana basically just sold their best player for 75 cents on the dollar.

A very savvy move by Toronto, who now has Bargnani, Bosh and O’Neal. That’s pretty legit.

If a statue is playing SF for the other team.

Then yes, Jermaine O’Neal can play a 3.

This was a great trade for Toronto. Calderon was a top 5 PG last season before Ford came back from his neck injury.

by LiamP on Jun 25, 2008 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Thank of it as more of a 3-man rotation

between 2 spots. They will all get around starters minutes and Calderon has shown he can be more productive than TJ

Rare Gnats Sex

Ford has some pretty serious injury concerns though

which means a swap for another big talent but injury prone guy is probably where they get the most value. As for the pick…this is a deep draft so Indiana could absolutely get a good player there not to mention they could package it with there pick to move up for a better player.

I've never heard that song or commercial

Ha ha. It’s just a saying I came up with a few years ago when a friend and I were talking about why baseball is better than a relationship. I said, “Baseball is my boyfriend” and it just kinda stuck.

I hope they interview

him after the game. I want to see the pie-to-the-face bit

Gerald ate it.

JK. Usually, I’d see him behind those kind of antics. I’m surprised.

He was on the lookout the entire time.

Rewind and watch Max’s eyes. Dude knew what was coming.

that’s probably why he was so nervous. They should have just charged him with cans of shaving cream or something.

They had Sidney Ponson on this team

for like 4 weeks. Their supply of pies is dangerously low.

That's a letdown

Also,

Anyone here remember Kinsler’s first pie in the face? The great Adam Eaton nailed him on that one IIRC

I don't think I remember that one.

I do remember John Rheinecker’s though. He got his first ML win on his birthday. Mench nailed him.

I remember that

he shook the reporter’s hand afterwards with pie stuck in his devil beard
