i’m trying to think of the last time i saw a lefty-throwing catcher…
i don’t think i’ve ever seen one…

He’s the only one in the last 100 years or so, I think.

What makes it cooler for us is that these kind of things are rare here
This is the first baseball title in school history and only the second team sport national championship in school history (softball 1998). Eight seniors are graduating from the team so this might be a once-in-a-lifetime thing… but it’s damn sweet right now.
Mendoza
Screw Oswalt, stick Mendoza at 1st base (where he is conveniently located now).
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
You know
I’m wondering if Luis Mendoza is finding himself a new niche for his power-sinker as a bullpen guy. Since Feldman, Hurley, and eventually Harrison pretty much have the back of the rotation locked down, there probably won’t be a rotation spot for him anytime soon.
In the meantime, if he keeps pitching like this, Mendoza could prove pretty useful as another Jamey Wright in the bullpen – what do you guys think?
Kinda like
what KamLoe was supposed to be?
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah
Because much like Kam, Mendoza’s sinker really doesn’t fool many people a second time through the order.
the moral of that story is
don’t whine about not getting a call or expect that you got one.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
So is Feldman a serious candidate for a staring role here in the future?
Or is he more of a reliever, spot starter type?
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
I haven't watched one game this year,
I live in New York. Last year he was a reliever. Im a bit suprised he has lasted this long. Thats why Im asking.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
yeah
because Feldman has been so bad, he’s probably been our second to third best pitcher this year and could be better than that with more run starts and a lil more support!
by blueballlefty on Jun 25, 2008 9:15 PM CDT up reply actions
it has more to do with our prospects than feldman
and its saying more about our rotation if feldman has been our second to third best pitcher
im not talking about injuries.....
i dont mind him spot starting or filling in…..but i’d rather see someone who has a future in our rotation hold a spot
His last start, I said it looks like we've found something valuable
This start, to me, actually does more to confirm that than going seven innings. Even though it was a tough night for him, he still only gave up two runs and gave the team a chance to win.
Now, if four-inning starts become the norm, then there’s a problem… but once in a blue moon from a back-end guy I can handle.
players really really need to keep the tag on longer
players seem to be off it at some point in every other slide.

by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 9:25 PM CDT up reply actions
Berkman just struck out
and the runners were going on the 3-2 count. Max’s throw wasn’t too bad, but its tough throwing Bourn out and of course the Tejada steal had nothing to do with Max’s ability to throw out a runner but simply a decision on where to throw.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Well, that's what the box score says

No DH, and our usual starting CF and RF for this game are both out with injuries. You can’t expect them to score too many runs in that situation when Oswalt is also starting the game against you. Plus, still no shutouts for this team.

For Indiana, I agree.
"Boy, that is a gutless, 6-foot-7, .200-hitting formerly good player. What a joke." -Tom Grieve RE: Richie Sexson
Yeah, with Calderon, Ford was expendable.
And Indiana basically just sold their best player for 75 cents on the dollar.
A very savvy move by Toronto, who now has Bargnani, Bosh and O’Neal. That’s pretty legit.
"Boy, that is a gutless, 6-foot-7, .200-hitting formerly good player. What a joke." -Tom Grieve RE: Richie Sexson
legit for what?
they play the same position. i don’t think a lineup with the three of them will be all that great.
they could have gotten something more useful for TJ Ford. They still could I guess
Rare Gnats Sex
Bargnani at the 5, Bosh at the 4, O'Neal can play a 3.
And with Calderon running the show, it’s really not bad at all.
"Boy, that is a gutless, 6-foot-7, .200-hitting formerly good player. What a joke." -Tom Grieve RE: Richie Sexson
Bargnani and O'neal should be swapped in that scenario

o'neal cannot play a three
not in any offense I’ve ever seen. I could see the rotation though. Still, not where I would use my trade chip.
Rare Gnats Sex
If a statue is playing SF for the other team.
Then yes, Jermaine O’Neal can play a 3.
This was a great trade for Toronto. Calderon was a top 5 PG last season before Ford came back from his neck injury.
Thank of it as more of a 3-man rotation
between 2 spots. They will all get around starters minutes and Calderon has shown he can be more productive than TJ
"Here comes the version of Benoit that lets the other team put it out of reach. I hate that version."
-Athos
i don't have a problem with calderon being good. I'm just saying that wiht the number of teams looking for good PG's, you should be able to find a better match
Rare Gnats Sex
Ford has some pretty serious injury concerns though
which means a swap for another big talent but injury prone guy is probably where they get the most value. As for the pick…this is a deep draft so Indiana could absolutely get a good player there not to mention they could package it with there pick to move up for a better player.
"Here comes the version of Benoit that lets the other team put it out of reach. I hate that version."
-Athos
I just read that
Ford is a base-year-compensation guy so the trade can’t be finalized before july 9th.
I wonder how that effects the pick?
by Dirk Diggler on Jun 25, 2008 10:12 PM CDT up reply actions
They pick who Indiana tells them to pick
Like when Washington picked Harris for the Mavs.
But I guess that does mean a trade up would be extremely difficult if not impossible using the #17 pick

network engineer spousal unit is taking the network (and the internets) offline for a while until the lightning stops…. I’m out till tomorrow’s gameday thread

network engineer and you aren't setup with a surge protection and a UPS?
someone is slacking…
Grieve: The Yanks have struggled so far. - Lewin: Yeah, cry me a bag of money.
we are
but we live in a historic building and the windows…. are not such a tight fit. We spent a while just now sopping up water that got in. Not taking any chances.

For the love of God, throw that 95mph fastball inside to righties. No way they can hit that pitch. He absolutely sawed off Loretta and Tejeda.
Angels go down on the Nats
and our bullpen gets a win, this could be a sign of very nice things to come, aahhh yes it could!!

Seemed to have great stuff and poise tonight.
The double was just a good piece of hitting, he wasn’t all that erratic in the walk to Bourn, and then of course he had Vasquez boot one.
Overall, I thought he looked good.

erratic or not
there is no way you an walk bourn right there. horrible hitter with loretta and tejeda coming up.
I like this Miller High Life commercial
where they go to the luxury suite at a ballpark and take away the beer because the people there aren’t even paying attention to the game. Ha ha. Love it.

Your handle...
makes me think of that song on the iPod commercial… “Music is my boyfriend! Music is my imaginary friend!”
"I know you're a bit dense but no, it doesn't. Obviously lying isn't a problem for me."
I've never heard that song or commercial
Ha ha. It’s just a saying I came up with a few years ago when a friend and I were talking about why baseball is better than a relationship. I said, “Baseball is my boyfriend” and it just kinda stuck.

I hope they interview
him after the game. I want to see the pie-to-the-face bit

We would be in 1st place

After this win
I could go for some of that cheese.

Also,
Anyone here remember Kinsler’s first pie in the face? The great Adam Eaton nailed him on that one IIRC

-The Outlaw
I don't think I remember that one.
I do remember John Rheinecker’s though. He got his first ML win on his birthday. Mench nailed him.
