6/26 minors
Even though there is a prospecty tint to the fanposts today, we have a fuller slate of games after some league ASBs.
AZL: that Puello guy is off to a good start (3-5 today)...Grullon and O'Campo pitched, O'Campo struggled through his inning (2 H, 2 BB)
Spokane: Boscan is up
Clinton: Gomez up
Bakersfield: Phillips
Frisco:
Wonder if any of the promotees made their destinations in time to get into the lineup tonight? Clinton was at home last night, so those guys would be travelling from Iowa to, what, Fresno (Visalia)? Vallejo had the all-star game but was off last night, and Frisco is in Springfield, so it's probably just a matter of when he got the call.

Gac and Osuna were out of here at 4 a.m.
Had to catch a flight at the Quad Cities airport. Vallejo got the call right after Bakersfield’s last game. He flew into Dallas yesterday and went to Springfield with the rest of the team.

SHROOM
wonder if you can find out for me something. i posted here the other day and no responses. Int’l signings from past two years brought Perez last year, plus a SS named Suelo. Where is he? he is not on either Dom teams. 06 brought Puello who i guess is learning some C while still playing first. Ventura is playing Of in Dom and doing decent. the other big signing was a !b named Valdez. Where is he also?

no idea
If nobody else knows then send a well-written question to Evan Grant and see if he doesn’t include it in his newsletter for you. It works for me sometimes. I’ll look around in the meantime. Never know, might find something.

SS Wilson Suero
He was on the Instructional League roster this fall but seems to have disappeared. Rumor has it that Wilmer Font knows his whereabouts. :)
I’ll ask around.

Per the FWST's Foul Territory blog re: Chris Davis:
Manager Ron Washington said before the game that when Hank Blalock returns Davis will be sent back to Oklahoma City, regardless of his performance.
by shroomer on Jun 27, 2008 12:36 AM CDT 0 recs
Meh...
Let’s see if he says that when CD is hitting .400/.450/.650 after his first 2 weeks!
Seriously though why can’t Hank go back to 3rd? I know Vazquez is playing well, but what is more important this year. Getting Hank and Ramon AB’s or getting CD AB’s?
It’s not the end of the world if Max Power and CD go back down because they are struggling a little. However if they are playing well I think they need to stay up. It should not be this “regardless of his performance” BS. Performance matters, ask my wife.

I was going to ask
is this really his decision to make? And please JD sit down with him and explain what exactly he expects from Wash with regards to this team. Mainly play the damn kids. They’ll screw up and we’ll lose some games but those are the growing pains when your roster is one of the youngest in the league. At this point does it matter what Hank gives you? He won’t be here past this offseason anyway.
Honestly at this point I just hope Wash is running out the season and his contract is not renewed at the end of the year, along with Connor, and Chiti (sp?). Just fire all three and bring in someone new. Although I have no idea who that should be but I hope it’s someone with some experience dealing with developing younger players.
Statements like this make me think the man is just a clueless moron.

What I mean is
that they probably have about six contingencies, involving trading Cat, Blalock, Bradley, this guy getting hurt or that guy getting hurt. Certain scenarios (such as Bradley being dealt) seem like they could easily lead to Davis staying if he plays well, but given his personality and all, they might not be going through all of that right now with Washington.
In addition, Bradley is like his first born, so they’re probably not talking up dealing him (especially since they could very well try to extend him before dealing him), even if they are planning on considering it.
Washington is probably doing some schtick here, also. For one, he probably thinks that telling Davis that takes some pressure off, and maybe most of all, he wants to manage how this impacts Blalock. It was probably his idea to ask Blalock to move to 1B and let Vazquez play every day, so it looks pretty bad to him if he does that, then the club pushes Blalock aside for a prospect at 1B. He probably wants Blalock to know that what he promised him when Blalock agreed to move still holds true. And considering all of those complications, the front office could very well just say, we’ll address all of that with Wash when it’s actually time to make a decision. All that really matters right now is that he plays Davis the way that they want him to.

Blalock
I am a huge Blalock fan and would love to see the guy get healthy and stay a Ranger for a long time.
That being said. If he causes Davis to be sent down then not only fuck him but fuck the front office. When Blalock first agreed/volunteered/whatever to move to 1B Davis was struggling at AAA after being promoted and Hank was supposedly a few days from returning from his hamstring injury. Since then Davis has gone on a mammoth tear, big enough to earn a promotion to the big leagues even though we had 3 guys capable of playing that position on the roster already. And Blalock has been injured twice more and has yet to actually play a game at 1B in the majors. So if he comes back and sends Davis down I am through with him and I will be pissed at the front office.
I know I have made this point a few times since the promotion but you don’t promote a 22 year old who only has a couple months above AA to the big leagues in Davis’ situation unless it is for good no matter how he performs. By Davis’ situation I mean this. he had to be added to the 40 man roster a full year and a half before he was required to be. There were already 3 healthy capable players in the majors that could play that position so its not an injury replacement thing. And there is a guy who is coming off the DL hopefully in less than a month that is slotted to be the full timer at that position.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Your last paragraph
makes perfect sense, but this is the Rangers we are talking about. I think JD has improved a lot in terms of trades, but he hasn’t shown that he can manage a 40-man roster.

I think the latter of your theories is where the truth lies
Well, at leas the part about Wash doing manager shtick. Cause I really don’t think Wash is the clueless, intra-organizational laughing-stock of a sock puppet some of y’all seem to think he is.
That comment struck me as innocuous manager speak.
No more.
No less.
Moving on:
It was probably his idea to ask Blalock to move to 1B and let Vazquez play every day, so it looks pretty bad to him if he does that, then the club pushes Blalock aside for a prospect at 1B. He probably wants Blalock to know that what he promised him when Blalock agreed to move still holds true.
What leads you to believe that? Cause it seems incongruous that you believe Wash is a bumbling fool who doesn’t even get to read intra office memos, but yet is the sole decision maker in moving one of the teams most important players (and probably the most important trade chip, in terms of needing to build up value) off a position he’s played all his pro career and to a position where his value is much less.
