going to yankee stadium for the first time next week advise?

any advise on what to try to see, what isn't worth the time, best way to get  Hamilton to sign my son's SI, and what is the best way to get to the stadium?  thanks for any help.  i will be at both tuesday and wednesday's games.                  go rangers and to get to 75 words, i don't think Wash will be the manager when we finally get back to the playoffs, but JD will still be the GM(i hope) and and nolan will get the most credit.

Take the subway to the game...

...but make sure you get on the right train. Taxi rides in NYC get expensive REALLY fast with all of the red lights, traffic jams, etc.

Try to get to the stadium early enough to check out Monument Park in left field. It’s pretty cool, even for non-Yankee fans.

Yeah

If you take the subway just make sure you don’t let someone tell you the wrong stop to get off on and wind up having to walk like a mile through the Bronx at dusk. That isn’t fun.

Depends where you're coming from

but take the Subway. If you’re coming from the city the most direct way is just to take the 4 express uptown to the Yankee Stadium stop (161st street). It is extremely easy…no need to take a cab at all.

by Agreen07 on Jun 27, 2008 5:36 PM CDT   0 recs

+ 1

Yeh the hell with the cab…the trains are soooo much easier. They drop you right at the stadium.

Best way to get a Hammy signature is to get just beyond the Rangers dugout towards left field as close to the field as possible. He starts signing at the top towards left field (close to third base) and works his way down towards the dugout. That’s the way he did it at Shea 2 weeks ago and did it for like 20 minutes…your chances are good I’d say as long as you get right up there on the rail.

although

I had box seats.. I’m not sure if they allow people from the bleachers into the 1st and 3rd base line parts..

Alternatively

Take the 6 train to 125th st, then catch 4 train to 161st st. Do the same on the way back in reverse because the 4 train is crazy full and the less time spent on it the better. 6 train runs the same route as the 4 train towards Grand Central on that part of its route.
Be sure to get your return fare before you go to the stadium because its crazy trying to get to the ticket machine after the game. A $4 Metrocard (or at least $4 on a Metrocard) will do the trick.

by mcgee48c on Jun 27, 2008 10:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes

Taking the 6 and switching to the 4 is the best advice. It’s a much more pleasant journey as it is less crowded.

Take the 6 and switch to the 4?

It depends where you’re coming from. If you’re coming from Union Square, why would you take the local all the way up?

by Agreen07 on Jun 28, 2008 4:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

huh? Isn't the 6 the local?

I'm flying in to go to Monday's game

and see the immortal and ESPN-rific Joba pitch against us -

My agenda:
1. Peter Lugars Steakhouse
2. KATZ for the pastrami
3. Ground zero
4. Yankee Stadium tour
5. Tex vs NY game (go scooter!)
6. Yankee Tavern on 161st for corn beef and beer after the game

Thats what I’m doing with my 1st trip there – hope it helps!

Ya....That's Real Mature.

I'm staying at the Sheraton of Laguarida Airport

they have a shuttle that takes and picks up to both the airport and game. Check to see if your hotel does that, if not, I’ve bee told to subway it…just not after 5pm.

Subway

Rush hour on the 4-5-6 line is crowded, but there is no reason to avoid the subway after dark, it you are thinking it isn’t safe.

Bleachers

The bleacher seats are quite an experience, especially for $10 or so per ticket.

--Brian

by BCanfield on Jun 28, 2008 9:19 AM CDT   0 recs

did that in college..

...its quite an experience, especially when you realize that the players respond to the chants from the bleachers… “deeeerrreeekkkk….. deeerreeeeeeeekkk… ddeeerreeeeeeekkk…. ” at which point jeter tips his cap and they move on to… “boooobbyyyyy….” ... just awesome.

well..

...you just gotta stand in line crazy early and be okay with having beer and insults poored all over you… the bleachers are CRAZY… but wicked fun… they always have gameday tickets for the bleachers available first come first serve… i was in college in nyc, so at $10, it was the only way for me to get into YS… $2 in subway tokens(rates have gone up…), $10 ticket, $8 whiskey bottle in my back pocket, and 2 $4.50 cokes… $30 = great sunday afternoon in the bronx

Bleachers

It’s a lot calmer now. They don’t allow alcohol in the bleacher section any longer (unfortunately). Tickets aren’t generally sold out during the week either. I sat out there for a Rangers game once last season. You will get heckled (although they kinda pity us Rangers fans) and hear a lot of colorful language. If you are easily offended, it’s not the place for you. Then again, if you are easily offended, NYC probably isn’t the place for you either.
