6/28 Minors (per Shroom's Request! :-)

Brandon to OKC, Manny to Frisco.

Now I need to waste 75 words....ummm, why wasn't Tommy or Andrew promoted?  I really wanted one of them to be RedHawks!  Or Brennan Garr.  Brandon is nice though...

Are we there yet?  Why do we need 75 words anyway?  I think Adam just wants to hear me talk! :-) LOL

Go RedHawks!

Am I done YET?  Oh, good lord...ba bable ba bble ba bble!!!

And the end!

They're talking about Puffer on the main page

and we talked about Pina’s promotion yesterday. So why don’t you rename this thread “6/28 Minors?”

Okay

Who the hell is Puffer?

He's a

30-something former major leaguer.

I can tell you...

...to Astros fans, he was like Dan Miceli is for us.

by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Way to go, Bev!

John Mayberry Jr with grand freakin’ slam in the first inning.

Emerson Frostad evidently had “breathing problems” and was thoroughly checked out by the drs. Might explain Pina’s surprise promotion.

Scooter never mentioned Borbon on the pregame radio show. Wonder if he’s unaware.

Gentry has a “problem with his leg.”

Dave Lezotte claimed Feliz’ troubles yester day were due to working on his off-speed stuff. Said Feliz could throw a 3-hit shutout everytime out with his FB alone if they let him.

by shroomer on Jun 28, 2008 7:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

no need to let him

let some of the other stuff try and catch up so he can dominate in the bigs. A sick fastball can get you by for only so long in the majors, no reason to make a closer out of him just yet.

Dutch

So far:
3.0 IP
1 H
0 ER
0 BB
4 K

Last game he was dialing up his fastball to 94mph

Beltre

Lined singles to LF and CF so far – working on going with the pitch supposedly, taking pitches, earning walks. Rinse. Repeat.

Great news

on both counts.

I could read about starts like this

all day. If they want to take it slow with Feliz, I can understand but Dutch is older and I would love to see him move on up to Bakersfield while we’re promoting guys.

Perez

2 runs (unearned) in the 1st. Throwing error on the player I recently hyped, SS Eddie Koncel.

by jparks77 on Jun 28, 2008 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Perez got some praise for his changeup from the Dust Devils' radio dude.

A couple of hard hits off him in the 2nd. One off the CF wall that was then misplayed by Paisano.

Murphy in for the 3rd inning.

Short night for Perez. Callup? :)

by rooster on Jun 28, 2008 9:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah. Didn't hear a pitch count, but he worked hard.

His other outs were fly balls, which is unusual compared to his first two starts in which he had GO/AO > 2. And, he almost gave up his first HR. A smash off the CF wall. Prolly something out of what with his mechanics. Good idea to take him out, let him work on things, and get him ready for a sharp start next time out.

In the other starts I’ve listened to, Perez would seem to lose it for a 3 or batters and leave his fastball up. I guess he just couldn’t get it going tonight.

smash off the CF wall

Wasn’t that Melhuse? He’s like 20 yrs older than Perez or something.

Nope. Austin Rauch. 20-yo.

But, Tim Murphy K’d Melhuse to begin the 3rd.

Mayberry

You like him because of stats? Which stats? All stats?

by jparks77 on Jun 28, 2008 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know you were hoping for a smarmy sarcastic two word reply from Longhorn

but what I like about Mayberry is the power and how he’s consistently improved his numbers at every stop despite the obvious step up in the level of competition.

He’ll never be the type of patient high-OBP slugger us stat heads cream our boxer shorts over, but he’s got a chance to be .275/.325/.500 power hitter in the big leagues… And the potential to perhaps be even more than that. He reminds me a ton of Jermaine Dye. There’s some value in that. I’m still a little wary of him cause the high K/low BB ratio means his margin of error is very, very low, but I’m cautiously optimistic about him for the first time in a long while.

The 40 Trumps All!!!

Junior

I like him. Sorta. I don’t think you can say he has improved at every stop. His numbers declined from Clinton to Bakersfield and then from Bakersfield to Frisco.

He has improved this season so I’m optimistic about his future but there is something about his swing that makes me think he is going to struggle at the next level. We shall see very soon.

Nope...

I’m just to the left of that picture. Clinton was crawling with scouts all week (just finished up my last game there—saw six). Even the scouts couldn’t believe how many of them there were. There were two or three, tops, when I was here around this time last year.

For the record, word is that the Pina promotion was a one-day deal. I believe Frostad was sick so they needed someone to catch.

“I regard McCarthy as one of the top five young pitchers under 24 years old in our game,” Didier said. “I believe he’ll be a starter who can maybe work himself up to a No. 1 or No. 2.”
