I would do my research
before making signs for players to “marry” or “kiss” me. I’d make sure they weren’t already married so I’d at least have a shot.
What do yout hink Ian told the girl?

Okay
On the play that ended the inning, Duran rounded first just as Howard caught the ball.
If Howard had dropped it, either Duran would have had to have stopped and tried to get back to first, and would have likely been tagged out, or would have kept going to second and likely been thrown out.
I know it is silly, but it annoys me when players are on “auto-hustle” and end up doing something where, if they were going to be safe, would end up ultimately being a bad move.
I was thinking the same thing...
I guess maybe he was trying to do the barrel at the player to try to cause him to drop it routine.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
LOL
It is true though, I’ve thought the same thing before. But I doubt big ol’ Howard picks up a dropped ball and gets it to second before Duran gets there. All depends on how far the ball gets away.
I was thinking
he should have tickled him a little bit while he followed the fly ball

So matt harrison goes 5ip, 2er, 4BB, 2k, 5 hits...
not great not horrible, looking to go 3-1 on OKC.
So i am taking it that once some one gets moved hes the next fullt ime guy, or will it be BMac?
I would think...
BMac gets first shot assuming he’s ready at that point. Not sure how long it’ll take him to get to game shape, but I wouldn’t expect him until around trade deadline at best.

A few nice arms
that may be able to have one season like Padilla is having so far.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Sounds more like stuff we could pick up by giving them Laird
Than stuff I’d want in return for our #1 starter.
I want Will freaking Inman.

Alcides Escobar SS, Jeremy Jeffress RHP, and Angel Salome C would all be interesting…Im not even going to mention Laporta or Gamels
Gallardo as PTBNL?
That would be sweet.

In response to Adam's question about trading Padilla because he locked the thread before I hit post
That rotation isn’t bad in the sense that it there isn’t any talent there, but bad in that you are looking at 6-7 guys with serious injury pasts and quite a few unproven pieces. We’ve gone into the past few seasons saying look at the possible rotation we can have if Millwood pitches like 06 (or comes close to repeating 05), if McCarthy reaches his potential, if Eaton pitches up to his potential, and so on. I’d like to be able to count on at least Padilla to pitch well and have that stability in the rotation.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Well
I don’t know if you can really count on Padilla to pitch well and give you stability.
I think he’s a useful piece in a certain situation. But I also think that if you can get a solid prospect or two for him, you do it, unless your goal is to do whatever you can to try to win 84 games in 2009.
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 9:29 PM CDT up reply actions
Well what's your definition of solid
I think its a terrible idea to trade him for anyone that doesn’t have a higher ceiling than Padilla does. And when he isn’t hurt, Padilla is pretty much a lock to go 6 innings and have a solid game almost each time out. I also know we disagree on his defensive independent ERA since I put a lot more weight in xFIP which isn’t nearly as far away from his actual ERA as his FIP is.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
His xFIP is 4.52
Which is a middle-of-the-road starting pitcher.
If you are a rebuilding team, and can turn a middle-of-the-road starting pitcher making $11 million thru next season into a solid prospect or two, I think you do it.
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions
I think
Padilla would be a Great 3rd pitcher on a serious contender!
by blueballlefty on Jun 28, 2008 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions
Toss in though
his innings-eating ability and he has historically been pretty good at leaving men on base and really looks more focused when men are on base.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Okay
I still would rather get a Matt Harrison or a couple of Omar Povedas for him, and roll with Millwood and 4 from the grab-bag of Hurley, McCarthy, Harrison, Hunter, Murray, Mathis, Mendoza, Gabbard, assuming you don’t sign or trade for a pitcher better than Padilla (which I think the Rangers will do).
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 9:40 PM CDT up reply actions
And I can live with trading Padilla
but again, I want that other pitcher here before any deal is made.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Why?
Are the in-house options really that bad?
Would 2009 be a disaster if our rotation were Millwood, Hurley, Feldman, Mendoza, and Harrison, say?
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions
I was seeking to head off the inevitable...
...”you can’t count McCarthy, he’s always hurt” comment, so I didn’t include him in the potential rotation.
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 9:44 PM CDT up reply actions
I'm a huge B-Mac fan
and think I’ve made it pretty clear that I don’t consider that trade to be the huge failure some do (like those who go by their initials around here). But, its pretty true that you can’t really look at McCarthy right now and say there is a guy who is a great bet to pitch 32+starts next year.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Not a guaranteed disaster
but things can get ugly with a rotation like that. Millwood is probably going to miss a few starts throughout the season at least, Mendoza is a nice back of the rotation option but still nothing guaranteed, and Harrison will probably have only a few Major League innings under his belt if he has any at all. You also have Padilla for the possibility of 2010 when the team is looking to compete more.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
that type of rotation
seems to work for the A’s every 4-5 years,
by blueballlefty on Jun 28, 2008 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions
How many times has it worked for the Rangers?
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
when was the last time they
actually started a season that way cant remember so your help would be appreciated
by blueballlefty on Jun 28, 2008 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions
Okay
so you run the risk of things getting ugly. You are rebuilding. It is a risk you take.
If you don’t sign a Sabathia or Sheets, or get a good young pitcher back in a Salty+ trade, then you go out like you did this year and get a Jason Jennings reclamation project.
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 28, 2008 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions
I hate reclamation projects
unless you are close to ST and need to fill a hole after a trade or injury like this past offseason for example.
And Padilla has an option for 2010. If concentration is his biggest problem, having that contract year next season and possibly in 2010 could be big for the team. If you can’t get anything better than what you already have in Padilla, I don’t see the point in making the deal.

Love how he actively defends his son, but be here when he’s slumping as well and you’ll get my respect a little more.
I think he's taken a break from posting
He was taking a bunch of crap the other day from Cahill and a somebody else, and kind of indicated he might not post here anymore.
That's too bad.
Although, if I had any kind of relationship with one of the players (particularly a family one), I’d probably stay away from msg boards too. I think it’d bother me too much.

I bet he's not.
And the Rangers players usually ignore me. For the most part. Which sucks, because most of the time when I go see them it’s in an opponents park and I’m one of VERY FEW wearing Rangers gear. But they walk right past anyway. I’ve kind of figured out that unless I have lots of surgery or rent a kid, I’m not getting any attention from them.

Threw my cap and a full iced tea through the front storm door. If you wear major league laundry, you don’t swing at two hoppers to the plate, not even Vlad does that. All the pitches he swung at were too low to ever be strikes in the wildest imagination. Hell, I tee my golf ball higher than that.
