Monday a.m. things

I liked that game yesterday.  I could get used to some more of those.

Richard Durrett has some Kinsler love, as Ian Kinsler has been tearing it up lately.  And Kevin Sherrington has some Eric Hurley love.

Kason Gabbard is going to have an MRI on his elbow, which he says has been hurting him for a couple of weeks.  Lack of command is one of the symptoms of ligament damage, so you have to be concerned about what the possibilities here are.

And Anthony Andro talks about the rookies coming up and performing in the last few weeks...

Display:

it seems a bit crazy

but despite the incredible years that Hamilton and Bradley have put forth, a case could be made for Ian Kinsler as the team’s MVP. Comparing Hamilton to Kinsler straight up, Kinsler actually has a higher average and more XBHs at this point. The extra home runs boost Hamilton’s OPS up over Kinsler’s, but Ian also sports that impressive 20 SBs to 1 CS on the year.

Still, I would have loved to have that half a year of Larry Walker.

John Hart was a tool.

Thank God

The Larry Walker for Kinsler trade didn’t happen

Is this the vulcan grip?

Clearly not a fastball. Looks a little like a fork ball or split-fingered fastball grip.

Gotta like the MJ coming out in Hurley.

It's a 4-seam fastball

A split/fork grip wouldn’t be across the seams like that. Plus, I don’t think he throws one.

by Baider on Jun 30, 2008 10:27 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

IMHO, if it were a FB he would probably have his index finger and middle finger behind the ball. I vote for a changeup.

I think the fingers are spread too wide for a fastball grip.

Could be a splitter, but he’s holding the ball too close too his palm, I think. Looks like some sort of change to me.

Go Rangers!

Q from Lucas' NMLR farm report

I hope Main has pitched his last game in AZL. If he has the stamina to go 5 innings, I highly doubt he needs to be in AZL to get the most out of his 5 innings.

Go Rangers!

by rooster on Jun 30, 2008 10:12 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Definitely

One of the studs in Clinton can move up to Bakersfield to make room for Main. I don’t know, though, who in Bakersield you move to make room for the promotion…

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Jun 30, 2008 10:17 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would think Reed

is the most justifiable. He has pitched better of late and held his own in a spot start in Frisco earlier this year. Kiker, Phillips, and Poveda all need more time, and Hyatt has faltered of late.

by clark on Jun 30, 2008 10:22 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't know about that

Reed has been far from dominant and I think he needs more time. Hyatt could move back to the bullpen I suppose.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

Hyatt...

his #’s aren’t great but they are ok. Plus he’s 24 so he’s not really a “prospect”.

Kiker, Reed, and Phillips just aren’t ready yet.

by slc ranger on Jun 30, 2008 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

If Hyatt isn’t ready for a promotion, he can be the long guy. Main needs to go into the Clinton roto one way or another and Hyatt does not need to stand in the way of that.

by Brett Perryman on Jun 30, 2008 10:50 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Holland is definitely due for a promotion and

had enough innings last year that he should have the stamina to push his season a little longer at a higher level.

Feliz could use more time at a lower league to work on his change, it appears from his last outing. He can’t be too far away from slowing down on his innings.

Go Rangers!

Gabbard

Im gonna go ahead and close the book on him. He had his chance, he is now dead to me. I say DFA and forced elbow break from JD wearing the terminator sunglasses.

you closed the book on feldman about 16 months too early

so I’m gonna go ahead and keep the book open on gabbard. he’s a lefty who can locate sometimes. With confidence, he could develop into a good reliever (LOOGY)

So...

Gabbard sucks, some people here say Murphy is a 4th OF. Engel Beltre is years away. How was the Gagne deal that great of a steal?

by Agreen07 on Jun 30, 2008 10:31 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Did you watch Gagne...

pitch last year with Boston or this year with the Brew Crew?

Those two have already produced enough to call that deal a steal even if they don’t ever play again imo.

"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates

by slc ranger on Jun 30, 2008 10:37 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seriously?

Really? You’d rather have Gagne on our team right now? He would contribute more than even Murphy by himself? But I do suppose Gagne has a brighter future than Gabbard… Gabbard is really washed up and trying to re-capture his glory days. Oh wait, that was Gagne, who we only had under contract for a few more months during a losing year…

by benjihana on Jun 30, 2008 10:41 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't say I would rather have Gagne on our team

but if you could get a Max Ramirez type prospect for Kenny Lofton, surely you could have gotten someone close to that for Gagne.

by Agreen07 on Jun 30, 2008 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right

His name is Engel Beltre.

by Brett Perryman on Jun 30, 2008 10:59 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope that's true

but we won’t know that for a while.

by Agreen07 on Jun 30, 2008 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If you're going to use that logic

then Ramirez hasn’t proven what he is either. Beltre has loads of talent. He’s a quality asset.

by Brett Perryman on Jun 30, 2008 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well Ramirez

is a top 10 hitter in the minors this year..

by LAMuscleFag on Jun 30, 2008 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

this is a completely incorrect analysis

just because the lofton deal is turning into a ridiculous win, doesn’t mean a gagne deal that nets your future All-Star CF isn’t also good.

In terms of prospects, we got a prospect that was way way better than max ramirez when we traded gagne. Maybe you disagree with the way that the rest of the MLB values prospects, but there’s no question that Beltre was higher touted. And, he’s not that far off either.

Couple that with the fact that you got a solid ML contributor in Murphy, and this deal is a solid win. Murphy might be a 4th OF, but he’s a damn good one. More 3.5 than 4. Can play all three positions and solid against right handers isn’t something you can always find in FA.

But, the trade was for beltre. Gabbard and murphy were just throw-ins that had a chance of panning out

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Jun 30, 2008 11:36 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

oh

well, that could end up being the case. Ramirez could end up being a ridiculous steal. It’s a little hard to quantify right now because he took a gigantic leap in development this year.

Rare Gnats Sex

by ab03 on Jun 30, 2008 2:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Huh?

Murphy, even as a 4th outfielder, has good value as a reasonable bat with good defense. Gabbard gave the club many more good innings than I expected, and to me he’s the throw in, a lefty they hoped might do ok in RBIA. Beltre has years to go, but he hasn’t gotten any less talented.

That trade would have been good even without Beltre, considering how Gagne was leveraged and then fell apart afterward. A good example of trading at exactly the right time.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Jun 30, 2008 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would have traded him too

but our return really wasn’t that great.

by Agreen07 on Jun 30, 2008 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Beltre...

could be very good. He’s still very young, but just the chance of him hitting his ceiling made me excited about that deal.

Beltre is a ridiculously good prospect with a ceiling higher than every player in the package combined.

Two things:

1- Ho wmany times have the roughriders stolen home? It seems like in every game recap I read about another steal of home. This is great but I’m just unsure of why this is? Is it something they always do in the minors to take advantage of inexperienced pitchers and third basemen(not holding the runner on)?

2-Yesterday, around 4:40pm, we had radio gold. It occurred on the Rangers pregame show with Nadel talking to Wash. This is roughly what transpired…...

Nadel- Ron, what do you tell young guys like Davis and Ramirez going into a game against a guy like Moyer?

Ron- Well , 1st I tell them that he wont be putting the fast ball by them…but at the same time they cant just go up there thinking they can sit on the fastball, because if you think that way Moyer will just “jack you off”. BaD Radio must get there hands on this. The audio was crystal clear…no mispeak, it was spoken with conviction….pure greatness.
