Why is Murphy batting 5th? RW should swap Murphy and Davis.

hmm
well we know that he’s not better than:
clemens
randy johnson
pedro martinez
greg maddux
but he’s certainly on par with or better than
schilling
glavine (a shoe-in given his 300 wins)
john smoltz
mariano rivera
trevor hoffman
troy percival
jimmy key
kevin brown
kenny rogers
andy pettitte
the question is, “how many pitchers that were great between about 1993 thru 2008 should get in?”
mussina certainly is putting up great numbers this year (10 wins) and looks like he could pitch a couple more.

I disagree with a couple of those.
Mussina is not on par with Smoltz and Rivera. Those guys are much more Hall-worthy, IMO.

If he pitches a few more years
and can get to 300 wins, he’ll be in. He will probably get 20 for the first time in his career this year which means he’ll have to get 30 wins over the rest of his career and is looking good still pitching for a great offense. I don’t think he deserves it that much, but there is something to say for his durability and consistently above average+ performance.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

OT: Headed out to the game tomorrow at Yankees Stadium
My buddy and I decided to go down to NYC tomorrow night on a whim and see the game. I figured this would be my only chance this year to catch the Rangers in person. I would prefer to go Wed night for the Ponson/ Mendoza showdown but my work schedule wont allow for it.
Oh yeah, we are definitely rocking the Navy Uniforms. Military gets half price tickets on the lower bowl section and when you’re in NYC in uniform the free drinks flow freely. I’ll post pictures and a story on Wednesday of the experience.

You said
he is in a massive cold streak. How does a massive cold streak end? By putting up good numbers in more recent games. That is what Byrd did. What he did in a 10 game stretch a week ago doesn’t matter to whether or not he should start today. For the month of June, he is hitting .282/.380/.436 in 92 PAs. As I’ve said, in the past 4 games, he has an .875 OPS in 16 PAs. But again, w/e, look at the 55 ABs he’s had as of late that ignores the 2 double and a single game he had right before that too.

If you can't
get your facts straight, there really is no point in arguing. He has 3 1-4 games. He has one 1-2 game where he got a single and two walks. Two of his hits in that span were a double and a triple. Therefore, you have an .875 OPS which is signs that he is heating up again. He plays a great CF, he can bring back something valuable in a trade, he has had a great June overall. You’re picking the wrong time to bitch about Byrd getting playing time. That time was a few games ago.

Another episode of "TR Sullivan says the darndest things":
From his latest mailbag:
I have read that Tampa Bay is in the market for an everyday right fielder and bullpen specialist. Would Bradley, Nelson Cruz and Guardado be enough to pry David Price away from them?
—Matt J. Garland, TexasNo. You generally don’t trade the No. 1 overall pick for a short-term package, even one that attractive. The Rays see Price being a No. 1 starter for many years to come.
Did he seriously just intimate Bradley/Cruz/Guardado make a package “attractive” enough to accquire somebody like Price?

in this game, hopefully the Rangers let him keep just missing and walk him to death

i dont think you can really blame him for that at bat
he took 3 balls and 2 pitches that if they were strikes were barely strikes and not good ones to swing at. then with 2 strikes he took a defensive swing at one a little more outside that the strike calls…
tough at bat, but i dont think he looked terrible or anything.

feldman reminds me a lot of
joe blanton. Hopefully we can have him take the same career path and not ask for a haren type-return for him ala beane the genious. he really screwed the pooch on that one.
