- The Stats -
I know in the beginning of the season most of us didn't think the rangers had the offense like we used to, with tex gone or the past players we used to have like juan gonzalez , rafael palmero, pudge, etc.
I also know its early in the season, but our offense is pretty much leading in every offensive category.
We all know hambones stats, but one that jumps at me is Ian's stats.
By far the best hitting 2nd basemen in the AL. We all need to vote 30 times each!
Michael Young might not be hitting as good as we like, but he's outhitting every shortstop in the AL.
Milton Bradley and David Murphy are studs, we know that already. Both leading in some kind of category.
Those were the good stats and now for the bad.
We have the worst team ERA in the AL. The most Errors and fielding percentage in AL
I don't want to end this post with a bad note.
I think the rangers farm system has the best overall record in the minor league.

Some Thoughts
Man it’s been awhile since I’ve even commented at LSB…I need to get back in the swing of things.
Anyways, here are some thoughts on your analysis:
1. The offense looks like it could have been even better thus far. Consider that only three players with at least fifty at bats have an OPS+ under 100: They are Broussard (gone), Duran (in OKC) and Byrd.
2. The pitching is interesting. Most of the starters have been rather average (85-115 ERA+). The exceptions are Jennings (48 ERA+ in 6 starts), Doug Mathis (46 ERA+ in 3 starts) and Luis Mendoza (44 ERA+ in 3 starts). Maybe with Millwood back the staff will get to about league average.
3. The bullpen has been the truly bad part. Francisco and Guardado have been good. Wilson, Wright and Rupe have been average. The rest has been abysmal. Benoit has to take the brunt of the criticism since the Rangers were expecting to rely on him.

Point 2 that you made
It looks like we haven’t had many bad starters, just a few who were so bad in their starts that they killed the team’s overall average. Now I’m sure that other teams in the league have something similar going for them, but I think that its important to consider when people say that this rotation is in shambles when we have had 4 guys in Padilla, Millwood, Ponson, and Feldman look good all year and only until recently did Gabbard start losing all command of his pitches.
There's no way this rotation is average
The reason the bullpen sucks is because the starters don’t go deep into games. Nolan Ryan understands this. Hopefully he doesn’t blow out a bunch of elbows trying to fix it.

Watching the game last night I was thinking
along the same lines. Great offense and lousy pitching.
I have long been tired of this approach but it seems like the Rangers despite changing players, managers, GM’s and even ownership always seem to end up in this situation.
I like the direction of the past two offseasons and pray they stay the course. Eventually all the draft picks and prospects from trades will add value to the Ranger roster. We are pitching heavy and deep in the lower levels and I do not want to rush them, as the Rangers have a history of, or give up on them early only to have them succeed elsewhere.
It may take another 5 plus years to really change the “all bat no pitch” reputation the local boys have well earned.
