New Draft Thread
Thought I would start a new one with some good news. A great answer for my first question ever answered in a live chat, this one from keith law.
Adam (Dallas, TX): "don't think he's high on Texas. "Do you mean hicks isnt high on texas or texas isnt high on him? Who do you think the Rangers pick at 11 and if it is cashner as some are predicting, do you think that is with the idea of stretching him out as a starter?
Keith Law: (2:47 PM ET ) I meant "Texas' list." Sorry, been on and off the phone this whole time. The Rangers won't take a pure reliever at 11, and I found out the Ryan seeing Cashner story was bogus. I've suggested Ethan Martin there, and I think if Friedrich is there they'd pop him. Not sure on Crow; I have a feeling Crow is headed for Houston. They want pitching, he's a tough sign, but is advised by the Hendricks Brothers, who have done a few deals with Houston before.
Hope this puts an end to the cashner to texas rumors and instills some hope in JD... if its true.

Awesome
Considering there are only 10 choices ahead of the Rangers it surprised me just how many different names I’ve seen floated multiple times for them in the various mocks. I think so far I’ve seen Hosmer, Hunt, Alonso, Sheppers (though not since the injury), Martin, Hicks, Crow, Friedrich, Cashner, Wallace—am I forgetting anyone?
...and curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git.

Rangers
I’d be fine with Friedrich or Hosmer.

Also
JD, Arlington, TX: Who’m I taking?SportsNation Keith Law: My guess is best pitcher available, but I doubt you’d pass on a premium guy who falls, such as Alvarez.
Wes (Austin): Is David Murphy really a 4th outfielder? Name me 5 teams right now where he would not deserve to start. The guy is second in the AL in extra-base hits, as a rookie!SportsNation Keith Law: You’re right, let’s overweight two months of good-not-great performance in a raging hitter’s park. That seems like a good idea.
.
Dan (Davis, CA): What are the odds of one of the top of the draft bats (Alvarez, Hosmer, Smoak, Alonso) dropping lower in the 1st round? Seems like we’re hearing less talk about signability issues this year.SportsNation Keith Law: I’ve heard Alonso to Florida, one of Alv/Hosmer to KC, and Smoak in a few mixes in the top 10. I don’t think any of those four falls farther than Texas at 11.

Ryan (Dallas): Between Hosmer and Hicks, who would be the best fit for the Rangers? And if they go with Cashner, is it true he could be in the bigs before the end of the season? Thanks for answering.SportsNation Keith Law: If Hosmer’s there, you take him, and you don’t look back.
Lot of Rangers stuff and Law with a lot of David Murphy, some of which I didn’t include.
