Botts to Japan?

I've been waiting all night for a solid report on this, and thus far nothing has come. There is a report on mlbtraderumors.com that cites this Japanese website , which, if nothing else, is a little amusing to read in translated form.

We'll have to see Rangers outlets pick up on this before it can be considered official, I guess, but this would ease the glut of corner players in AAA Oklahoma and might explain why Nate Gold is still with them. Max Ramirez did play tonight for Frisco, and while this opens a spot in the lineup, it doesn't affect the catching issue, which would have four guys who the club views as every day players at their top two levels if Ramirez were promoted.

At least it gets him out of his Rangers contract, right? Now he can make his own decisions.

I wish Botts...

the best. I really wanted to see him do well and still feel like he was never given a fair shot with the organization. I hope he tears up Japan and another team gives him a shot in the bigs.

Gold needs to be gone. Davis is at 1B with JMJ and soon MaxRam getting a start there every once in a while. Not sure why he’s still around. Guess it really doesn’t matter though.

Especially on Nate Gold. Can we sell him to Japan too?

by LSJ on Jun 4, 2008 11:03 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't understand all the animosity

Towards Jason and Nate. They are good kids who play hard and deserve more than constantly having people say they should be “dumped”. If every team only had prospects there wouldn’t be very many minor league teams out there.

It's not anything personal

It’s just a cold fact. Gold has made a good organizational soldier, but we just don’t have much use for him anymore, unless we want to demote him to Frisco, and have him fill in for the ‘Riders at first base.

I’ve been a fan of Botts for quite awhile but the Rangers badly mismanaged him, and it’s too late for Jason and the Rangers now. I think he’s better off elsewhere, so he can try and go his own way instead of fermenting in OKC for another season.

by LSJ on Jun 4, 2008 11:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Probably because

the majority of folks here are Texas Rangers fans, and like to see non prospects swatted away to make room for prospects that can help the major league club. Folks understand you need non-prospects to fill out the roster, but they should never take playing time away from real prospects.

Sharky said it, I believe it, that settles it

by DJCahill on Jun 5, 2008 6:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Who are they blocking?

I suspect Ramirez isn’t going to see AAA until after the trade deadline because he’s potential trade bait and they need him to be a catcher. They aren’t going to call him up to share time with Taylor, they ain’t going to only DH him, and he isn’t going to share time with Chris at 1B so I suspect he stays in AA for the next couple of months while the Rangers hope he continues to rake and increases his value.

Or are you going to argue that they are blocking Emerson Frostad?

by Beverly23 on Jun 5, 2008 7:32 AM CDT up reply actions

Is there really room on the team

for both Jason and Nate with Davis at 1B? Two nonprospect DHs? Kicking one of those 2 out of the nest makes sense to me, Any position you play them in the field blocks someone who might help the big club at some point (Cruz, Mayberry, Ellison, or Davis).

Sharky said it, I believe it, that settles it

by DJCahill on Jun 5, 2008 8:29 AM CDT up reply actions

I used to think Botts didn't get a fair shot

but even his biggest supporters have to admit that he didn’t do anything in the majors that leads anyone to think he will hit. Botts probably needed to play everyday to get in a groove, but since he is a horrible fielder and was hitting near .200 with hardly any power, he wasn’t going to get the time he needed. I would much rather watch a younger player who is producing, such as Boggs and Murphy, than watch Botts strike out three times a night and occasionally mix in a single and an error.

Meh...

when the Rangers have shitty games (or series) like today I try and ease the sorrow away by going to the minors, like many here do. This helped…

Kiker – 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K so far. Not sure if he will go out for the 8th or not.

Feliz had a decent day going 5.1 and giving up 3 runs on 5 hits with no walks and 5 K’s.

Not much going on today on the offensive side in the minors.

The guy is freaking crazy. After tonights “meh” game his ERA shot up to 2.33, and his WHIP for the season is now exactly 1.00. He’s still averaging more than a K per inning.

He’s absolutely been an uber-beast. And uber-uber-beast.

Thanks for being right, Kevin Goldstein.

And what’s crazy is for all the “NEftali is really young” talk, it’s amazing to see that Elvis Andrus is actually 3 months younger than Neftali. Really puts into perspective just how young Elvis is.

with Harrison moving up

are there any corresponding moves? If I remember correctly, Hyatt pitched that same day in BAK. He could be ready for some AA. Not sure who went for Clinton

by clark on Jun 4, 2008 11:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Hyatt, Reed or Phillips maybe

But BAK is in a 1st half pennant run. Zack Parker will probably just go into the Frisco rotation.
Harrison’s promo could be short-term – just filling in until things shake out for the Rangers/OKC staffs.

by shroomer on Jun 4, 2008 11:54 PM CDT up reply actions

What's left

for harrison in AA? I can’t see the Rangers demoting him unless he really struggles in AAA. He really has nothing left to prove in Frisco and needs to start preparing for the Majors rather than just dominate AA.

by Gdawg on Jun 5, 2008 12:57 AM CDT up reply actions

EG at the DMN blog:
2. Left-hander Matt Harrison is going to Triple-A Oklahoma. Not sure if this is a long-term move right now or if its just to fill in since Elizardo Ramirez is in the majors and the RedHawks need a starter.

FWIW, the last word that went thru my mind watching Matt Harrison throw a 7-inning no-hitter was “dominant.” I’m not sure he knew where the ball was going when he let go of it.

by shroomer on Jun 5, 2008 1:16 AM CDT up reply actions

harrison

i want to think hes got high potential… but looking at his stats… what would someone with a hit per inning and 6.5 k per 9 in the minors ever make the BA top 100 like he did?

glad hes in AAA though, hes be in AA long enough.

well for one

he’s allowed 3 HRs all season and that means he is actually on pace to allow more HRs than last season. Also that he rarely allows a walk (no hitter performance aside). Maybe its just me, but I’m a sucker for guys that keep the ball in the park and don’t give up the free base even if it means they don’t strike out as many guys.

Draft

Sullivan has a new article up, saying the Rangers are looking for the next Tommy Hunter, a college arm that can move quickly up the ladder. But Ron Hopkins also reiterates that they will take the best player available.

Notice to JOSEY WALES: Discussing Tom Hicks’ willingness to pay for top picks, Nolan Ryan said: “I don’t think Tom Hicks gets enough credit for that,” club president Nolan Ryan said. “But he’s always been willing to step up.” You need new shtick, Josey.

most mocks have him

slipping to the early 20s these days. i don’t think he is coming. still, he is a guy who, if he can get his control down (and that is a big if) has about as much upside as anyone in this draft. he is really hard to hit.

by clark on Jun 4, 2008 11:41 PM CDT up reply actions

his poor performance

in the regionals really hurt him.

A lot of folks think it’s just mechanics, like it was with Edinson. In fact, I think that’s probably a pretty good comp. If he works it out, he’ll be awesome, if not, he’ll suck.

I think at this point

we just have to wait and see how it all plays out. The idea that they are looking to replicate their bargain pick in the 50s with the 11th pick makes me sick to my stomach though, and I always HATE to hear that a team is looking for the pitcher who can help them the quickest. Such a horrible reason to draft a guy.

I want to punch myself in the balls when I hear talk like that.

with cincinatti and SF and such, there isnt nearly as much height to the stadium to clear.
