A request
Justin Smoak does nothing to alter to third base situation.
Please stop suggesting that either he, or Chris Davis, move to 3B.
Thanks.

It is!
When I was coaching JV baseball at a 3A school in east Texas I had a very short bench. I had a lefty I’d stick at third for several games (including the JV tournament) because he was a good fielder and I had no other choice. He played a great third for me.
+1
Damn straight, AJM.
Smoak/Davis/MaxRam is going to be a nice problem to have, but it won’t become an issue till 2010 or whenever – so I’m not worried about it. I’m just thinking about how awesome Smoak might turn out to be.
Totally agree...
...this is NOT the NFL draft.
Right around the time all the young talent is ready to contend is when the organization will realize that Ron Washington is the wrong man for the job.

Good point
After all, according to ESPN earlier today he is the only 1st round pick of the Rangers still on the current roster.

I thought Chris Davis has been a 3rd baseman all year
Why can we not talk about him being at 3rd? Was his D that bad? I thought th eonly reason he switched was because we had such a whole over there, but now if Blalock goes their (when healthy) we have a whole at 3rd especially at the minors. Also why is everyone saying 2010 for Smoak? Am I not corrrect on Tex only playing 1 1/2 YRS in the minors. (?)
1 1/2 years
Well, it’s mid-2008 now, 1 1/2 years would be very late 2009 at best. I would assume mid 2010 at best, but I’m pretty conservative on these things. If he signs quickly and plays soon we’ll be able to start making guesses that are slightly more educated.

I don't think anyone did
AJM is just heading the morons off before somebody makes that suggestion.

Question
Why do you think Botts will suck in Japan? He hit great in AAA, and the level of play is supposedly comparable.
by Adam J. Morris on Jun 5, 2008 5:23 PM CDT up reply actions
Actually
I have read some articles about the Japanese league in which it states that their league is superior to AAA. I guess they describe it as AAAA or low level National League play. I think Bobby Valentine said that on ESPN.Com. Since Botts is just AAA player, I don’t see him excelling in Japan.

Botts is not "just AAA player"
if anything, your argument should be that he’s a AAAA player.
Ugh, why did I bother replying. Maybe it’ll help Adam stoke this fire =P

He will be OK
Unless the Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI) files a complaint against the US for sending inferior product quality and an environmental hazard (consumes too much oxygen?) with the WTO.

If that were the case...
...then you wouldn’t see AAA players go to Japan and succeed, as they generally do.

This is what confuses me, Adam
you’ll sit there and feed the billy bobs of the world (for your own entertainment, I assume), but then you’ll skip or miss a legitimate question, opinion, or whatever?
Perhaps less troll feeding = more baby time?
I don’t know.

Oh, for crying out loud
If you’re posting here you probably have access to the internet. Go look something up you lazy, drunken jackass. There are dozens of 4A types who have had nice careers in Japan.

Roberto Petagine springs to mind
for one.
And Tuffy Rhodes was a freaking legend over there. Nearly broke their single season home run record, iirc, and would’ve done it for sure but no one would pitch to him the last few weeks. No one wanted to be the one who let their national record fall into the hands of a heathen American “brack mahn”.
Those are just the ones that leap immediately into this muddled head of mine.
There are countless others.

So did we trade Botts?
Im confused. What positive comes out of this.
And yes, Davis is a fine 3rd baseman.
