Laird starting at 3B tonight

And the hits just keep on coming...per the S-T, Michael Young is out tonight with a bruised thumb, and Gerald Laird is starting at third base.

interesting lineup choice

He’s got the arm for it, I just hope the Rays don’t end up hitting all their shots over there. If its a normal game, Laird will only have to field a few balls from 3B.

Rando theory alert...

Ponson and FOTF got into a brawl and FOTF “bruised his finger” thus leading to the DFA and FOTF missing tonight’s game???

Duran

I am really shocked they haven’t brought him back up before tonight. After the start Millwood gave us last night our bullpen should be back to normal. The guys that had been really worked have had 2 full nights off. There is no need for 9 relievers right now. Even if it was just for a few days until Metcalf could be brought back up I put this completely on JD for not having the right personel up here. If this was Sunday and there was a day off tomorrow I could possibly see the rationel but on a Friday with a key 3 game series against one of the top teams in the AL this can’t be happening.

Duran hasn’t been down for 10 days yet, so he can’t be recalled unless somebody goes on the DL.

What a cluster

not having a decent backup infielder here. Or any backup infielder behind Vasquez. With the BP abuse lately, Metcalf was the roster casualty and now they really need somebody.

This is absurd

Laird will do the best he can and regardless how it comes out he should get a pass on any criticism IMO. How can a major league operation end up with no infielders? This sucks.

by Jea103 on Jun 6, 2008 6:16 PM CDT reply actions

Laird

I don’t think anyone here is criticizing him. In fact if you go read my remark above I blame this completely on JD for his roster management in this situation.

I am not suggesting anyone has criticized him at this point. I meant if he has a really hard time at third tonight, he should get a pass.

with the big pile of shit the ‘pen has given us lately they needed a couple extra arms.

Still would have thought Shelton was a option at 3B over OMFT. Not a good situation though.

Welp, this is what the Rangers get for sending down Metcalf

They should have sent down Mathis origionally, although now it seems as if it’s a good thing he’s still here, with Ponson getting axed…

by LSJ on Jun 6, 2008 6:30 PM CDT reply actions

See this may be a good thing...

JD seeing that we still have no 3B, he might money whip Harold Martinez to have a future bad ass at 3B in the system…

So Fail miserably Laird…

a lot of people

are making a lot out of a guy who would have been a 3 or 4th round pick based on talent alone.

by clark on Jun 6, 2008 6:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Talent doesnt disappear

Most reports on the kids talk about how much he had a hard time beng in the spotlight and basicly took the load out of his swing when he pressed, which killed the power in his straok.

At the end of last HS baseball season and goign into all the offseason show case Martinez and Hosmer where 1 adn 1a. If you can get a guy with that talent, regardless of his hangups as a 17 year old kid, that isnt an attitude case, you take him.

Its worth the money to me to see him never get it than instead 3 years from now get drafted in the top 10 by another AL team and get pounded by him.

This game is going to be

biiiiiiiiiiitching. I can’t wait. Not because I think Laird will suck or anything, I just think the whole situation is hilarious. Two pitchers leave for personal reasons, one has to fill the gap and gets pissed for it and DFAd, bring up a ton of relievers to fill the gap, MY is out and all of a sudden Laird is at third!!

Seriously, this game is going to kick ass.
