Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Bonderman has surgery for T.O.C.

From Will Carroll:

Jeremy Bonderman has undergone surgery to correct Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. This is similar to the condition suffered by Aaron Cook a couple seasons ago. The recovery will take between 6-12 months. More details as available.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome...its not just for Rangers anymore!

Bonderman was someone who I thought could be available this summer, and the Rangers would likely have interest in, as a young pitcher with top of the rotation talent (if not results) who is under team control for a few more years.

Obviously, that isn't an issue now.

2008 just gets worse

for the Tigers. I mean, no one expected the Rangers to win, but it must be really deflating to be a Tigers fan right now.

...and curse Sir Sidney Ponson, he was such a stupid git.

think they would undo

that marlins trade now if they could?

by booyahcaveman on Jun 7, 2008 12:45 PM CDT up reply actions

No

But they’d probably undo the Braves trade where they got a declining Renteria for Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez.

by LiamP on Jun 7, 2008 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh yeah

Jurrjens is looking good and would sure be handy right about now. If they get hot in the next two months, though, perhaps this makes them big players for a starter like Padilla. I guess Willis goes back in the rotation for now.

The problem with that is...

Their farm is pretty barren right now. The only really exciting name is Porcello, and there’s no way they give him up unless they’re getting something better than Padilla in return. I mean, they traded away like 5 of their 6 best prospects last off-season.

they may not have a choice

Padilla + TT + ?

They don't have a choice?

If they give away Porcello, they’re getting someone better than Padilla. They’d probably start with Sheets.

As far as the Rangers

I’m glad that the option to overpay for Bonderman won’t be there. Sucks for the Tigers though. At least you can cite some cases of guys coming back successfully from this.

tigers/mariners tie

yankees will probably still turn it around. at least to the point of having a decent record, though they seem like they could finally miss the playoffs.

Tigers.

Yankees are a game under and I wouldn’t bet against them turning it around. They lost ARod for a long time there and you know they’ll trade for a frontline pitcher sometime soon.

Everyone outside of the Mariners FO expected the Mariners to regress.

I don’t think anyone thought the Tigers would be this awful.

by LiamP on Jun 7, 2008 1:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Tigers

big time. The Yanks saw some serious injuries to Posada and A-Rod hurt them, and they still aren’t tanking big time. The Mariners suck badly, but that was bound to happen when you have no offense and depend on Bedard and Felix to carry a rotation filled with mediocre, overpriced junk. The Tigers on the other hand traded their farm system for Renteria, Cabrera, and Willis to get what looked like the hands down best offense in the league and a solid rotation with Bonderman and Verlander leading that rotation.

Poor, poor Tigers

They’re almost as bad at giving up runs as we are, but they’re way worse at scoring runs than we are.

If you’re the Tigers do you just play this out and try to retool this off season, or do you try to make any move you can to try to turn this ship around right now?

They really have nothing...

left in the minors except Porcello.

There is still a lot of time left in the season. I think they have to try and turn it around now. I don’t think Leyland has any other option.

Yuppers

But they could always get creative.

Granderson and Porcello (as a PTBNL) for Bedard and Putz?

There’d prolly need to be some minor tweaking, and Putz still needs to start pitching well and prove he’s 100% healthy…. But assuming that happens, would you do that deal if you were Detroit? What about if you were Seattle? I love random trade speculation:)

If I'm Seattle...

I jump all over that. They suck this year and won’t have Bedard for long. Can’t see the Tigers giving up Granderson though.

I love trade speculation as well. It’s always fun to think about big names playing on other teams.

Too bad for Bonderman

But truth be told though, I’m kind of glad we won’t be going after Bonderman at the trade deadline this year. I still don’t think we’re quite ready to make that big trade yet.

Plus

I don’t really know or think Bonderman is a #1 maybe a #2 though. Yes he has good stuff but has yet to put it together.
