Happy birthday, Scarborough Green
Happy birthday to former Ranger Scarborough Green, who played way too much for the disappointing 2000 Rangers team that ended up finishing in last place.
You have to figure a guy with a career 30 OPS+ and 503 OPS must have been great defensively.
Green turns 34 today. Yes, only 34...he's the same age as Frank Catalanotto (who was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 1992 draft in the 10th round, #280 overall, exactly one pick after the Cards made Scarborough Green the #279 overall pick).
He's only six months older than Jamey Wright, for Pete's sake. I would have guessed Scarborough Green was 45 or something.

Scarborough Green
One of my favorite spare Ranger names. Didn’t he cross the picket line in 94/95 and thus wasn’t a member of the union?

Yes, he's a scab
There’s also this from Wikipedia:
“Following his career in baseball, Green pursued a collegiate football career at NCAA Division II Harding University. There he met friend and future roommate Blake Timmons (Dallas Christian High School, McMurry University football). Timmons, Green, and Norman Griffin each transferred to Division III McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, to play football.
While serving as the football team’s punter, wide receiver, and in other positions, Green participated in track and field for McMurry. Green had a strong leg in the 2007 National Champion McMurry University 4×100 relay team, and he added to his All-American titles by running in the 4×400 relay. Teammate (4×100 and 4×400) John Mikalik (Georgetown Highschool, McMurry Track and Field) was part of a national broadcast centered on the career/life of Bert Green. As both entered their last season for McMurry University, expectations for the 2008 track and field season—including a defense of the national title—were high.”
Over 30 years old and dominating Division II collegiate sports. You have to admire that.

Fair Enough
But I meant a post that was actually about baseball – I failed to clairfy that I was not including AJM’s propensity for posting random YouTubes. (The best YouTube is Australian Party Guy, by far, IMO.)

Green was leadoff hitter...
...in what has to be one of the most embarrassing games in Ranger history. I remember TAG saying the players were acting like they just didn’t care anymore.

Jeff Zimmerman...
he was still awesome in that game.
Say, I hear he’s throwing off flat ground these days. From 60 feet.
