Diamond last night

First off, apologies for being late, also my father-in-law changed his mind about bringing his camera since we were vulnerable to line drives and he didn't want to risk a $1200 camera.  Can't blame him but all I had was an old camera that only has 3x so most shots were from far away (Even though I was sitting at the second row next to the Roughriders dugout).

To the game, Diamond was once again inconsistent, when he missed he missed badly.  For a while I thought Ebby Laloosh was on the mound, balls were clearly high, he had one pitch that hopped to the plate, several players had to move to avoid inside pitches and Diamond hit one batter on a 3-2 count.  He gave up 3 runs although one wasn't his fault as the third baseman was not in position to field a throw from the outfield.  The good part was when Diamond wasn't wild he was very effective, most of his fastballs sat at 90-91 but I did see one at 94, his changeup did garner a lot of whiffs and surprisingly he didn't hesitate to use it as a strikeout pitch.  He rarely threw his curve.

He settled down in the second but if he gave up a hit he became unraveled.  I lost count of how many pitches he had thrown but save for the second he threw far too many and it could have been worse had the infield not made some nice plays.

Other thoughts:

Props to Andrus for stopping to sign autographs before the game, at least 10-15 kids lined up and he took care of them all.  Diamond just walked by and ignored everyone.

Andrus was brought in as a pitch-runner in the ninth and immediately he got inside the pitcher's head (#50), he caused a wild pitch-out (Pitcher threw it in the dirt and the first baseman couldn't field it) then stole third.  They had one out and the pitcher was definitely struggling, unfortunately we popped-up and the sacrifice fly we needed came when we had 2 outs...actually Frisco had runners in scoring position in the 9th, 10th and 11th and couldn't score (Reminded me too much of the Rangers early season)

Max Ramirez looks and acts like a beast.  Hope he develops.  But too many Roughrider players were free-swingers, they definitely need to work on handling pitches.

Frostad likes screwing with kids, at the end of the inning kids would line up and hope a player tosses the ball their way, Frostad waits until the end then tossed it half-way up the section making the kids sprint for it.  Dude did it twice, you would think the kids would have learned the first time.

Gonzalez pitched well and shouldn't have had a run counted against him, it was a weak line drive that the second baseman misplayed and ran past (Which allowed the runner on second to run home).  Not sure why that wasn't counted as an error

For Midland:

#20, CF better hope A's officials weren't watching the first inning because he let a fly ball drop in front of him.  My first thought was that a major leaguer would have made a run for it.

The pitchers must subscribe to the "Everyone plays" rules because no pitcher lasted more than 2 innings (Box score had 7 pitchers in the game).  I can't see how their bullpen can handle a season being taxed as much as they were.  Everytime I looked they had guys warming up.

If #19 is really 5-10 as listed then I'm 7 feet tall.  He looked like your little brother that drags along behind you screaming "Wait up!" up but man he could hit.  He only landed one hit but every at-bat resulted in a shot to deep outfield and he was a vacuum at SS.  #18 was the one with the stats but #19 looked better.

#30 had one pitch that hit 85, every other pitch was 79 or slower yet he had batters missing badly, especially on key pitches.

And finally, we stayed until the top of the 12th then left, Frisco won the game in the 12th...figures!

Will post what few pictures I had in just a bit.

I wouldn't be too worried

about his command at this point. Others have posted here and elsewhere that pitchers recovering from TJ surgery have trouble regaining there command and control. He will but it may not show up until next spring.

Exactly right..

my college roommate had Tommy John and everything came back in this order: Velocity, Snap on breaking pitches, feel for change, and then control.

except for the fact he

had control problems before TJ

I saw him a few years ago and I believe he had like 7 walks in 3 innings….

Please forgive any and all typos, mispellings, etc.
Your kindess in this matter is appreciated.

I remember when Jeter and Pettite were in AAA-Pettite was pitching-

I went to a red wings game when they played the clippers(the old Yankee AAA Affliate). Being a fan of baseball, I went and tried to get autographs. I remember my dad telling me try and get Pettites. Let me tell you what, he didn’t sign one thing. Jeter came over and signed my hat and my dads shirt.

The point is, when a pitcher is pitching, don’t even bother asking for a sig. Also don’t take it to heart. He needs to be in his own zone and let nothing disrupt it.

Diamond doesn't suck

He’s just coming back from TJ surgery. He’s actually suprised with how well he’s done so far, and with the effectiveness of his new curveball.

Personally, I’m getting excited about him again.
