I like these kids,” Hicks said. “I remember we had a sponsorship event in January, and Ian Kinsler told me, ‘Mr. Hicks, you watch, I’m going to be a leader on this team.’ I said, ‘That’s great, Ian.’ But that’s just what he’s done. We have great leadership on this team from some solid veterans. You start mixing in young players, and that makes me feel excited about the next few years.”

hello
win column! It never gets old against the Yanks. Also, proof that the fans should have absolutely no business voting in the all-star game: Dustin Pedroia currently leads Kinsler. That would be the biggest joke in the history of the all-star game.
Pretttttttttty much
Pedroia is a good scrappy player and has good range, but ahead of Kinsler??? Heh.
There is no such thing as global warming. David Murphy was cold, so he turned the sun up.
by SarasotaRanger on Jul 1, 2008 9:58 PM CDT up reply actions
Absolutely
No doubt Pedroia is a fine player. I have nothing against him, but it’d be awful if Ian didn’t start. I have to watch games on mlb.tv, so I watched tonight’s on YES. They brought up an interesting tidbit: Kinsler apparently didn’t go to Ariz. St. because he wouldn’t have gotten playing time at 2B over….Pedroia. Go figure.
Pedroia is so overrated
As evidenced by leading the 2B voting. If he didn’t give the Red Sox some good production last season, no one would care about him.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Yeah,
he looks really good with his just above average performance. When I think really good, I think .347 OBP and .440 SLG. He was really good last year when he is a rookie, but instead he has taken a step back this year as a second year player.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Yeah, his offense isn't that high above average.
But it is well above the expected level for a second baseman, and he adds good defense to that. I don’t think he’s taken much of a step back at all, though he hasn’t made much of a step forward, either.
He doesn’t deserve to start the All-Star game, or probably even make it (if I were assembling the roster he wouldn’t), but he is really good and I’m interested in good players.

Yup completely...
They didn’t really specify if it was a rehab assignment or simulated games, but either way, it’s a sign he’s at least starting that road back. Still don’t expect him to be pushing for a return til trade deadline though I would imagine.

What if he comes back
stays healthy, and shows he can pitch? My god, this could be exciting. Wait… need to curb the enthusiasm

I know
I’m starting to think that we may actually have a bit of a logjam in the rotation.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Dino Radja >>> Soft Nowitzki
Gut feeling
JD trades for Sabathia. He’s done something pretty big every year he’s been GM, why should this year be any different.
Dino Radja >>> Soft Nowitzki
I think they will too....
And if they keep playing like this, hard to argue against it. Just lock him up!
"Mr. Hicks, you watch, I'm going to be a leader on this team." Kinsler
yeah, i might have to rethink my stance on him
im mr. fat people now. him being nasty, k’n everyone in sight helps as well. if it’s a trade and sign that would be perfect. But, let’s say we need to trade 3 top prospects and another lower tier prospect. IF we don’t resign him, we get 2 1st rounders for him and then the 2 for Bradley and we replenish our farm system fairly quickly.
Dino Radja >>> Soft Nowitzki
with max, davis, and blalock around and bradley's 1 year status
i think bradley is the one piece we have to trade.
that is, if a decent offer is made.
2 games over 500 please.
negative..
We don’t have to trade anybody.. Bradley needs to be our right fielder for the next 5 years..
Blalock and Max have nothing to do with it.
so do I
but then i …....
1) see how often he is hurt
2) see how far above his career numbers he is playing
3) see that he keeps getting banged up this year even though we are protectiing him by playing him at DH 85% of the time
4) want to make sure davis continues to get regular playing time the rest of the season, and think clearing the DH role will assist that as hank comes back (hence the hank/davis comment). and also allow more playing time for maxram if we do trade one of the catchers and he stays up.
5) know that we could really use one more high ceiling arm to help us next season (well, we could use 10) and bradley may not even be here next year regardless.
6) and that even if we do trade him, its still possible to re-sign him next year.
im not going to say you cant think we should keep him, hes been great and I like how much he cares about the game and seems like a good teammate, but there are just so many reasons to sell high I have to think we should.
2 games over 500 please.
If the Team is playing well.
And Davis is on fire, Blalock will find himself riding the pine most of time.. with the Cat being traded.
I know the risks, but Milton fits here, this is his home. He needs to be a Texas Ranger. We can afford the risk.
there is no chance that blalock is going to be benched
0. zip. if blalock is ever healthy enough to play, he is going to play. thats just a fact.
2 games over 500 please.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......

LOL... no it doesn't
The plan includes finding impact players for the long term..
Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley in the outfield.. impact players, hopefully long term.
Milton Bradley in the outfield.
You’re talking about 25% of the time right?
If noone’s willing to overpay for Bradley, fine. But if you can find a sucker, then you trade him without hesitation. Same with Padilla.
do you realize how many people here think we have to think about trading bradley?
is it really “LOL” worthy?
2 games over 500 please.
Holy shit.
I swear to god, some of you just have no bearing on player values whatsoever.
I honestly think its
a terrible idea. The price for him will be very high as there is too much interest. Don’t Hart this bi*ch and sell the farm the minute we get above .500.
But...
...wouldn’t our rotation be winning games if we were in first place by the end of the month? Why trade away sustainable winning? He’s not very likely to be a sign-and-trade sort of player… Only the Yankees might be able to get that done, but I highly doubt even them… He’s going to FA…
completely agree
it’s freaking awesome that we’re winning like this, but let’s keep our heads on straight and do what’s best for the team over the long run
Angels and A's tied at 2-2 in the top of the 4th
The Rangers could climb up in the standings today

Either way they gain a game on one of them.

Sept 18, 2006 is the last time...
Rangers were 3 games over .500
4 games over last time was Sept 5, 2006
5 games over last time was June 24, 2006
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
Kind of makes you remember
how great of a season 2006 actually was. A lot of people only remember the late season failures and disappointment after a great trade, but this team was doing great for most of the year.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

If not for one of the worst April in club history
Where would the Rangers be right now.
"Would you mind walking a time or two so I could drive in some runs"? Milton Bradley
Roster Management
In hindsight, the team that broke camp was awful.
After two years of failure in April, I hope management can learn from the mistakes and do it right next year.
Anybody looked at the record with Hank on the DL…can’t be a coincidence
Things we learned from April
1. Shit happens
2. Wash has lost privileges of getting his player here
3. No more retreads starting in the rotation
4. Shit happens, but it better not happen again
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
meh
The only question about Bradley that Wash’s input played an important factor was his personality. There was no question Bradley had a lot of talent and the OF could use a bit of a boost this offseason.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
you can't do that
wash worked to get bradley here probably as much as he worked to get broussard here. I doubt we bark up that tree if someone else is manager. take the good with the bad
Rare Gnats Sex
Are you sure?
All I’ve ever heard on Broussard was that Wash kept talking him up and saying how this guy was going to be his special player and he was going to be great. I thought he would be a nice stop-gap, but it looks like Wash was expecting greatness from Broussard. I don’t remember reading anything about Wash saying the same about Bradley and again, Bradley’s main question has always been health and not talent. Even without Wash here, there is a good chance JD strongly considers Bradley as a good buy-low candidate ala Gagne and Lofton.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Yeah...
but Wash is a large reason for Board Game coming here. Take the good with the bad. Yes he wanted Broussard here, but he also wanted Bradley.

Yeah...
just say the Rangers went a game over .500 through the first 27 games instead of .333 at 9-18, and that would be 14-13 in that span. That’d put the Rangers at 49-36 right now which would put them 1 game back of the Angels who are 49-34 right now.

Good point brought up by a caller on the radio post game show
If the Rangers sweep the Yanks tomorrow, the national media is going to be saying, “What’s wrong with the Yankees?” instead of saying “Look at what the Rangers are starting to do”. The Rangers will not get any mention of having great young talent and help take a .500 team into a 4 games over .500 team. Instead, we’ll here about the cellar dwelling Ranges were able to sweep the unstoppable Yankees who have a basically identical record. It doesn’t really effect the team much, but I really hate ESPN and the national media when it comes to even looking at any positives the Rangers have.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I have no problem letting the rest of the league underestimate us

I heard that too and agree...
then again I’m used to it as a TCU student and athletic supporter.
When the TCU football team goes to Norman and beats OU, the press immediately says OU is in a rebuilding year, or some such, not that TCU went in there and dominated. Same with any number of other games TCU has played since being a student there in 2003. It’s always “What’s wrong with such and such team” or “Such and such just had an off night tonight” instead of “TCU played a great game and were the better team”
Much the same as we have seen with the Rangers over and over.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
I don't really worry about it...
...too much. Keep playing and winning and they’ll change their tune. Their playoff woes aside, they said the same thing about the Mavericks when they transitioned to a consistent winning team. We can only hope the Rangers make the same sort of long-term transition, but with postseason success. Remember, making the playoffs in baseball is like skipping round 1. If only the Mavs had that luxury the last two years…
TCU...
you guys better beat the Y this year or I’m going to be rather upset.
They’re already talking BCS out here and it’s pissing me off. The U will take care of them, but they need at least a couple conference losses.

East Coast Bias
I gave up on national sports commentary, particularly ESPN’s, because of this. The Northeast region’s sense of self-importance is just annoying.
The fact that you expect better from ESPN is discouraging.

CJ is throwing harder and more accurate than I have seen in awhile.
He has really turned it around starting with the Houston series.
he did walk the leadoff hitter on 4 straight
he was good today, but he still flashed some inconsistency

angels scored 3, will more than likely win
gained a game on oakland at least, who if you believe in run differential is better than LAA anyway.
2 games over 500 please.
Really...
even if it doesn’t improve our standings positions much, Angels/A’s splitting or A’s going 2-1 is probably for the best. Helps on gaining on both teams if we’re winning and they’re trading punches.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
but oakland/LAA are pretty shocking as well
they have underachieved/overachieved greatly
