Thursday a.m. stuff
That was pretty good yesterday, huh?
Evan Grant says the Rangers are in a pennant race. Ditto Tim Cowlishaw. I'm not convinced, but we shall see.
Josh Hamilton says it is his first walk-off homer ever. In terms of WPA, this eclipses his even his 9th inning Seattle homer...the Rangers had a 14% chance of victory when K-Rod delivered that 3-1 pitch.
Vicente Padilla is on the d.l., and Wes Littleton has been called up. The Rangers are going with Feldman tonight, Mendoza tomorrow, Millwood Saturday, and Harrison on Sunday.

Pennant race? Maybe. But...
...I sure hope this doesn’t do anything to derail the long-term rebuilding that is going so well right now.
I still say be sellers at the deadline.

let those 4 guys bat then take 5 foreited outs. as for mendoza’s home run derby just put the 4 guys spread out throughout the outfield seats and try to catch a couple of mendoza’s bombs allowed

Well, it appears it’s a buyer’s market for pitching…
But I’m kinda hoping the Rangers drop tonight’s game. They need to stay the course, especially if the course is dealing veterans before the deadline.

Mendoza vs Harrison
If (when) Mendoza lays and egg on Friday and Harrison gets a quality start on Sunday, is Harrison in the rotation for the 2nd half?

he may already be, yet Mendoza is forced to stay in the rotation due to injuries to Padilla and Hurley. It’d be nice if McCarthy could find a way to contribute this year as well…especially if injuries continue.

Win 7 or 8 in a row
wouldn’t mean they’re contenders, it would just mean they played well for a few games in a row. Don’t be tempted to swerve from the plan by getting close. If the Angels will trade us John Lackey for Mendoza, then we have a chance at the division, but I don’t see that happening.

Nelson Cruz hit a
walk-off last year v. the Angels in early May but not sure if game was tied or if the good guys were behind.
Can’t ignore what happened last night or the potential positive effects we may see but this rotation is in complete disarray, we’ve scored 14 runs less than we’ve given up, we’re leaning on several rookies not to mention the ugly little facts that this team leads the AL in errors committed and walks issued.
If this continues, it’s difficult for me to believe this team is going to finish above .500 muchless threaten the Angels for the AL West.

I'm glad Padilla is on the DL
mostly because we have had a lot of guys this year, keep the seriousness of their injuries to themselves. I can’t say I’m an expert, but it seems to be a particular problem with some of the Latin American guys, that don’t communicate when they’re hurting. I have a feeling that might have been happening with Padilla, and now that he’s on the DL, we should see some quality Pads when he comes back.

Wondering if JD might be able to pull off some type of trade to bring in a dependable starter or bullpen piece that would be under club control next season.
I don’t want to veer off course during what should be a rebuilding year, but if he could deal off some of the minor league depth for a piece that would help both this year and next – that would seem to be good for both the guys in the room, and the fans.
Maybe a guy like Jon Rauch or John Lannon or Jesse Litsch – something like that.

The Plan
I wouldn’t be opposed to dealing for a veteran starter who is only here for a couple months as long as we don’t give up any of our main core of prospects. Randy Wolf for example probably could be had for cheap. if we do give up some top prospects it better be for a Matt Cain/Zach Greinke type player who is young and under team control for awhile.

Thats fine
Let him resign with SD. Im not saying trade Feliz for him for two months but if we can get him for a mid tier prospect and maybe a throw in guy then I say we should go for it. It would allow Harrison to go back to AAA and be our injury replacement guy while Millwood, Padilla, Wolf, Hurley, and Feldman hold down the fort. Its not a great rotation by any means and won’t win any ERA contests but hes a veteran guy who could come in and help out without costing too much and he wouldn’t really be blocking any of our young guys.

I have enjoyed the Rangers
this year. I think they are competitive on any given night but they still have a ways to go IMO to play with the better teams on a consistent basis. Based on the young guys we have already seen, and others coming up, I think we have a really good chance of being good for a number of years if we exercise a little patience. I would hate to jeopardize that future by trying to win it all this year. Having been a Ranger fan since they moved here I feel like I have paid my dues and I am willing to wait another year or two for the chance to be one of the top teams for several years. In the meantime, I will still root for them and be happy when they win and disappointed when they lose.

To steal
Copy in part from another domain: Fast balls topping out at 80 mph with no movement, and although flat, no one would have hit them because Arizona Power and Light was measuring BMac to see if he could be rigged for windpower energy.

Also
Milton is jumping up and down at home plate last night but he can’t take 4ABs tonight? Weak.

or hell, salty. id rather he hit than anyone but kinsler… and the 8th and 9th innings were both equally fine times to do it at any point.

If Hamilton is IBB'd
Bradley hits for Murph. And maybe Scoscia intentionally walks Bradley bringing up Byrd. Wouldn’t have mattered as the winning run was already on base, so no harm is sending Milton to 1B. Not sure, but I think MB had his batting gloves on when the walkoff was hit.

BMac
Anyone really think BMac will come back and pitch this year? What of Blalock? How close is he or will he continue to sit on his ass while is team mates try to make this a competitive year.

Blalock
As great as Davis’ HRs have been we need to look past those and see that he is getting absolutely outmatched by ML pitching right now. His AB last night where he swung at that first pitch changeup was horrible. It looked like a batting cage swing where you swing before the machine has pitched the ball and you hold up just long enough to make slight contact. He has shown he has great power potential and looks like he will become the beast we all predict but if Hank comes back in the next couple weeks I think it would be best to send Davis down and let him get back to hitting good. If Hank is as fragile as he has shown then Davis will probably get another look and if anything he will be back up in September.

7/10 vs Angels
Davis 3-6 2 doubles, 1 run 1 rbi 2K
It was nice to see Davis get his first multi-hit game. He is making adjustments just as pitchers are adjusting to him. Blalock is suppose to be ready when the team goes to Minn after the ASB. Wash said into todays DMN that the only way he sees both of the in the lineup is if they both play the CIF spots. I am not sure how this will work out. I do know that I would rather see Davis bat than Blalock. SImply because I think Blalock won’t be here next year.

Keep Davis...trade Hank
The Mariners cut Sexson. We should go after Bedard after both he and Hank get off the DL. They need a first baseman and we have an extra one(or two). Both have health issues but Bedard has a huge upside. We’d have to throw in a prospect or two but we might end up with a primo pitcher next year.
