Will someone please tell me...
that this is not the same old Rangers.
Looking at the stats scare me:
Batting: 1st in batting avg., runs, hits and slg%. 2nd in OBP and Hr's
Pitching: Last in ERA 5.04, most BB's and highest WHiP 1.59
Fielding Wosrt fieling% and most errors.
I am not a Ranger basher and I do like the team. The farm is stocked and the kids look pretty good so far. The stats don't lie and this team once again is all bat and no pitching and poor fielding so far.

This is the same Rangers....
except unlike the past, we now do actually have a bright future when it comes to pitching…unfortunately most of the promising pitchers are still a few years away (Feliz, Main, Beavan, Kiker, Ramirez, Holland).

Thanks and I agree
The future does look brighter with the farm talent and we are still a few years away from seeing it settle into the big leagues.

I think
An objective viewer of our roster would expect us to be 5-10 games below .500. The fact that this team is doing significantly better than that is a good thing, no matter how they’re doing it.

The last week or so the theme
of the team has been “Do you believe?” I struggle with beleiving when I look at the pitching and fielding stats. There is something special about these guys and that intangible is IMO the reason they are over .500 and not as you state 5-10 games under .500. I still ponder how long can they keep it up with the ERA and Fielding.

I've been a fan since the Carter administration...
and I can say confidently that this team is in better position to be real good (contend to play in WS) than anytime since it moved to Arlington. The pitching is OK. Compare this staff to some of the playoff staffs, and I think you would agree. Pavlik, Oliver and Helling, imo, were at best innings-eating back-of-the-rotation starters. Also, the future is bright with the farm bulging with high-end pitching talent.

Look at the caliber of talent
that won’t make our top ten prospects and be reassured.

Thanks T Ball

Anyone have any interest in Jeff Nieman?
Maybe one of our many MiLB experts on this site can enlighten me on this guy. With the Rays cornucopia of young pitching talent, he seems to be very available and the odd man out—but maybe for good reason.
25-years old at AAA 1.17 WHIP, 70 Ks, 24 BB, 70 IPs.

Rays are in the market for a lefty releiver...
Eddie Guardado and a lower level prospect for Nieman?

It'd have to take more than that
I just don’t see them doing that

someone over at D-Rays Bay...
...suggested that he and McGee weren’t going to cut it as starters…
...ultimately they’ll be pitching out of the pen.

.600 ball not enough
The rangers have been playing around .600 ball since there 6-17 start, impressive by any measure. However, they will have to play a .660 ball in the second half to catch the Angels. Now I like this team offensively but I don’t think our pitching allows us to make up 7.5 games. I say trade some pieces for prospects (Guardado, Wright, Catt, Byrd) let the core of the team and our “now” prospects continue to make noise. I think our post-deadline take will be the return of all of our injured pitchers ( McCarthy, Rheinecker, Mathis, Murray, Gabbard, Benoit, Hurley, Padilla). If they can’t return to good health 8/1 to help us make a run, then you just chalk it up to misfortune that cannot be overcome until next year. I’m cool with that as I really like watching this team play despite its flaws. I think that they can win next year with the right trades that address the top of the rotation.

Tell me Rodney...
May I have your opinion on Luis Mendoza? What you feel his future holds?

As has been discussed before
They may as well run him out there, at least once more, to see if he can correct himself. I really feel he is better suited to the BP…but they need to give him a chance to sink or swim.
It’s all about finding out who fits where this year.

Why the BP..
I have missed his two most recent starts, so im not sure where his velocity was at.
Was it down from the 92-94?

+1
haha not too many times i agree with you rodney. but i think you hit the nail on the head, Mendoza looked good in the BP, and the Rangers, even with all their needs in the rotation, could also really use a back end of the bullpen arm.

Head to head
The Rangers play the Angels 10 more times this year. If they have any hope of making the playoffs they have to win 7 or even 8 of those games and play about .600 ball against everyone else. Possible, but not bloody likely.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

The Same
Our fielding just makes your head spin but doesn’t seem to have as much effect on W-L as you think it would.
Its seems that the pitching consists of more good (decent?) performances and then big blowups on other occasions than in other years. Sort of a consistency thing. The two W’s in this series were well pitched, tightly played games while losing the bombardment games. That is very much unlike the past.

Offense
I like to look at the fact that we had two huge offensive games against the Angels staff this week. Thats a positive in my book and shows how good an offense we are
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

I still love him.
We will learn alot about him tonight.
He can make us forget that loss in short order.
