If you play against AJ Pierzynski, you hate him. If you play against him, you hate him a little less.
You mean...
If you play with him

Hamilton or Howard
I had a Phillies fan today tell me since Ryan Howard was getting hot, he’d end up with more RBI than Hamilton. Agree or disagree?

Depends on how they handle him in the second half
This is the most games he’s played in a major-league season… he’ll need more days off down the stretch to keep fresh.
Damn, Hamilton is FAST
Say… is anyone else concerned that he’s going to be participating in the home run derby just as he’s starting to find his stroke again?

Talking about how superstitious/OCD he is
He has one exact way to pick things up… if he messes up he has to get in bed and start over again… like a worse real-life version of “Monk.”
I'm really superstitious when it comes to sports
but I’m not nuts like AJ… that guy has issues.

...its not a laughing matter… very serious and very debilitating… “real life Monks” exist everywhere and life is very hard day-to-day.
If, however, he is just superstitious, then who cares, honestly?

You know
I’m a big Kinsler supporter. I’ve defended his defense.
But I wouldn’t go so far as to say that he’s a “big plus” defensively at 2B.
Sure
No question. He isn’t a big plus defensively at 2B right now, though.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is
Okay
Going back the discussion about Byrd not hitting with men on-base above, here’s the ugly truth:
- .179/.316/.308 with men on this year
- .114/.259/.205 with RISP
I did not think it was possible for anyone to be hitting that badly with men on base. Seriously, Byrd needs to be dropped to 9th in the order looking at that.
"My keyboard is a Yankees fan" - Whipsmart
Do you think that his performance to date...
...with men on, and RISP, vs. how he has done with the bases empty, is indicative of how he will do in those situations going forward?
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 11, 2008 9:21 PM CDT up reply actions
I think so
He’s a mere .250 career hitter with men on base, and .265 with RISP… so this really isn’t an abberrition for him at all.
"My keyboard is a Yankees fan" - Whipsmart
Well
Studies have repeatedly shown that the idea that players perform better in “clutch” situations, versus normal situations, is pretty much a myth…
If this is correct, then Marlon Byrd is the 1 guy in 10,000 or so who has a statistically significant drop in performance with runners on compared to with no one on.

Salty Ks
Seems like TONS of foul balls. Is that more of a positive meaning he will get his timing after adjustments and put lots of balls in play (low K rate)? Or more of a negative that he simply has a slow bat?

im not.
i like salty. i was one of the top few people advocating for him.
and im certainly not going to apologize for wanting a top prospect who was hitting well in AAA and had a solid mlb debut to come up and play over a guy who had a .680 or whatever ops the year before and was doing as badly to start the year.
laird suddenly hitting and salty falling off the face of the earth was not the smart bet to happen. its just what has happened.

Salty's OPS by month
April: 929
May: 756
June: 552
July: 371
He hasn’t walked since June 24.
This is troubling.
I try to keep reminding myself...
...that he’s only, what, 23 or 24? He’s still got some growing up to do. I’m still confident in Salty.
"But the point is, [Jeff] Mathis is a bush-league uber douche." -lonestarJon
I'm not writing him off...
...but he’s heading in the wrong direction. The argument before was that it was because he was sharing time with Laird, but he’s gotten worse since Laird got hurt.
I’m just wondering if he needs to be back in the minors right now.

His final game of the season...
...was the next to last game of 1986 for the Rangers.

injuries/poor performances or no.

I see two
catchers gone by ST. Just a feeling, though.

x5 by wash. + a “we love chris davis”
although he just meant it in that hes obviously in the plans and they like him, not that he necessarily isnt going anywhere for a while when blalock comes back.

CJ Wilson...
is looking foward to competing for a cornerback position with the Carolina Panthers this year.
Damn
if we had only won last night’s game; we’d most likely be back 4.5 in the morn. We’re playing very well though, this is all good.

We don't need to worry about how many games back as much as...
How many games over .500 we are..
A good goal right now should be 10 games over…
that series with the angels earned the rangers some respect from their fans
halo’s heaven with some ranger respect here and there.

Looking at prior wild card entrants...
I estimate we need to go 45-23 for the remainder of the season as a goal.
That would put us at 94-68 for the season, or 26 games over. This is on the lower end of the scale it has taken for teams to obtain entry into the playoffs.
We should have a counter that knocks off from the W and L side after every game towards this target record to watch our progress :)
