Around SBN: Penn State Recruiting Roundup Is Set For A Big Junior Day

Brandon McCarthy update

Ah, the irony...Brandon McCarthy made his first minor league rehab start today, in the Arizona Rookie League, on the day the guy he was traded for starts against the Rangers...

The box score is here...

Rehab assignments can go for up to 30 days for pitchers, so this would put him on track to return in early- to mid-August, barring any setbacks.

Please confine bitching-about-the-trade discussions to the bitching-about-the-trade FanPost LSJ has up...

UPDATE -- Richard Durrett has some updates on some injured guys, including McCarthy, who threw from 86-90 (according to Mark Connor) and will go 3 innings in his next outing.

Yeah

That’s why I went ahead and linked to the box. I suspect, after another outing, he’ll go to Frisco or Oklahoma and start pitching there.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 12, 2008 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, that would be most excellent.

Just glad to see him out there pitching again.

If a Brandon McCarthy fastball left Surprise, AZ at 3:00 pm heading east, and a Neftali Feliz fastball left Frisco at 4:30 pm heading west, where would their paths meet?

a) Crawford, TX?
b) Roswell, NM?
c) Hippie Hollow, TX?
d) Just east of Surprise, AZ?

Feliz’ fastball would scare Brandon’s into running West!

First, the time zone thing gives the Feliz FB a head start. Then, McCarthy’s FB first has to make an arc in the general direction of Sun City West, off the bat of a Royals rookie leaguer.

E) None of the above

McCarthy’s fastball flight would be delayed due to severe forearm conditions…

I'd have to say Hippie Hollow....

But if their balls met there we’d never find out what happened. If I remember correctly when I lived in Austin, whatever happens in Hippie Hollow stays in Hippie Hollow.

Last week Arod and Cynthia were huge news in NYC.
This week they are huge national news.

7.5

after his next start.

Warner Madrigal is the Rangers most underrated prospect by a longshot; he SHOULD be be closing games within 3 years IMO. Matt Harrison is underrated too.

When someone gives an over/under...

You’re supposed to pick OVER or UNDER… not submit your own over/under line.

For the record, I’m going WAY over.

Over

he’ll make it back this time. I don’t know how effective he’ll be, although I am 100% certain that people will jump on him if he doesn’t pitch a two-hitter or some such in his first start.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

I so smell a blister it ain’t even funny.

by shroomer on Jul 12, 2008 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Two Questions

1. What does a blister really smell like? It can’t be pleasant.

2. Did Feliz get moved up a day? I was hoping he’d be on tv Sunday.

by cstorm15 on Jul 12, 2008 3:46 PM CDT up reply actions

1 – kinda like Tarragon

2 – Yeah, moved up a day. The Rangers green-rooming Ballard cost us a chance to see Feliz on Sunday. bahstahds

by shroomer on Jul 12, 2008 4:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm so glad we get to see Ballard on TV again

I swear, it is him or Schlact every single time they are on the tube.

Think Positive

2 innings with only giving up 1 run is pretty good for BMac….He has to build up arm strength…don’t want to rush him and have a Mark Mulder moment…we aren’t suppose to be in the pennant race until 2009 anyway right

by ACtheStud1980 on Jul 12, 2008 3:04 PM CDT reply actions

If he goes to Frisco, he should room with Blalock...

so they can sit around at night and postulate about what injury will sideline them next…
