"But he got an inside the parker"?
He’s still slow. It’s easy to get in insider the parker when an outfielder tries to field it and misses it, allowing the ball to roll away from everyone to the wall.

not sure but
I think we’re going to start seeing attendance rise a lot in the second half. The Rangers are really pushing this winning record for all its worth and saying that we are in a division race while the young guys are exploding on to the scene
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Juuuust enough juice to get out of that inning with a tie

huh?
Gagne was money with texas.
"Sooner or later, prospects kill you, because you hang onto them." - Greggo, 11/22/2005
i think he's saying that
when gagne was in texas, he didn’t have his dominant high speed stuff anymore and was relying on his offspeed stuff. I think CJ learned too much in that he keeps going to the offspeed stuff way too much, when his fastball can reach 95 on a consistent basis. That at bat to thome was a perfect example of how he should pitch. He threw 6 straight pitches i believe at over 94, then struck him out by mixing in a curve ball…

LSB facebook group ---->>> http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=33345329288
his fastball is also what almost all the hits were on.
it seems like people arn’t missing his fastball as much you would expect from a lefty throwing mid 90s.
the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is
CJ has essentially become a one-pitch pitcher...
...he isn’t locating his off-speed pitches early in the counts…
but the encouraging thing about today’s game is that CJ didn’t give it away like he did in Minnesota. Tim Tschida called that game too… and if you remember, he was really squeezing the strike-zone that night…
Max had to reach for that off-speed third strike on Thome. even though it was over the plate, most umps would probably call that inside…
Easy, killer.

About goddman time
I want CJ out of the 9th inning though. I don’t really care who takes over, but watching him pitch has been a royal beating lately.
"My keyboard is a Yankees fan" - Whipsmart
You sure you don't care? I would take him over Frankie.
If we are trying to win this year put in EDDIE, if not then keep in CJ.
Eddie has nothing to prove
We need a solid, reliable 8th inning guy. Frankie Frank throws 97 MPH heat, and has shown an ability to pitch in tight spots this year. I think it would be a good idea to at least have him split time with CJ for awhile, and just find out if he’s up for the role of closer.
"My keyboard is a Yankees fan" - Whipsmart
It should be interesting to see what happens to

"Sooner or later, prospects kill you, because you hang onto them." - Greggo, 11/22/2005
It seems to me just watching games
He pitches well when coming in in the middle of trouble, but not so great starting the innnings. This theory could not be proven though
FX2 is a possibility
Throws smoke. ERA is deceptive at 3.58, because he’s allowed alot of inherited runners to score. 1.43 WHIP. Has streaky control problems. Meh.

CJ Wilson: '09 Closer?
Of current closers, with 15 or more saves, CJ Wilson now ranks as the worst of the bunch with a 5.01 era. Any predictions on his role next year? My take: as he likes to pitch long innings, I say we give him what he likes: a middle/long role in 09. If he doesnt profile as a closer I dont think he profiles as an 8th inning set up guy either…
My opinion
I think he should be converted to starting next year. That doesn’t mean they’ll do that though.
"My keyboard is a Yankees fan" - Whipsmart
you dont like your closer to throw a lot of pitchers
but its even worse for a starting pitcher.
obviously the ERA is unacceptable, but i give him the chance to keep it, certainly for the rest of the season.

A guy who seemingly...
...can’t throw strikes consistently, and needs 20-25 pitches to get thru an inning…
And your solution is to put him in the rotation?
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 13, 2008 6:29 PM CDT up reply actions
I think his mentality is more suited to starting
He likes to try and finesse hitters, use all his pitches and get them out by fooling them before challenging them with his stuff. His control is obviously a problem, but it’s going to be a problem anywhere you put him, rotation or bullpen – I think you might as well try and put him the role he seems better suited for and see if he can work it out.

I think it's just a matter of him getting more AB's lately
With Salty’s groin hurting, he’s had more playing time this past week, and he really seems to have benifited from it.

hahaha
that doesn’t sound very promising..
Milly I have no choice but to nickname you "The Laborer".
Every time I see you on the mound you're laboring through the inning.
You sure as hell don't labor when you hear Dunkin Donuts is closing in
15 minutes, sat there with a chocolate eclair with 5 minutes to spare.
Good game again today for the offense
Matt Harrison struggled a little, but the White Sox truly have a good offense. I’m still excited about him.
As far as CJ Wilson is concerned… I hate to say it, but I’m in agreeance with those above who think his time as closer should come to a close at least temporarily. As much trouble as he gets himself into, and as many runs as he gives up, he just cannot be termed reliable enough for the closers role in this man’s opinion.
I should note however… K-Rod of the LA Angels of Universal Studios (or whatever they call themselves) seems to have spotty control and a propensity to make folks nervous just like CJ, and he is considered a successful closer. But the difference is, K-Rod has the ability to strike out anyone at any time, allowing him to get away with his transgressions (when Josh Hamilton isn’t at the plate, anyway). I’m not so certain CJ has that ability, and if he does he’s certainly not displaying it this year.
hey davis has his average up to 260 and his obp up to .328
nice recovery from those .190/.230 lines a series or two ago.
.983 ops. if they send him down I will do something drastic.
