ASB is here
Well, The Rangers didn't do too bad in the first half and finish with 50 wins which I will admit both surprises and impresses me. It also scares me a little bit. I fear that JD and Wash will think this team can contend this year (they can't) and try to trade away some of the young guns for "win now" rentals. Over the next month I hope to see the Rangers trade away 1 if not both of our older SP (Milly and Pad) Cat, Laird, Byrd, Blalock & Everyday Eddie. They should keep Harrison and Hurley in the rotation and keep Davis and MaxRam up. Give the catchers job to Salty, try and resign Bradley, and get McCarthy healthy and pitching every 5th day. Then in the off season go out and get an Ace and another bullpen arm.
I also think this team needs to call up Cruz and let him play for the rest of the year. One Ranger official said something along the lines of "Cruz is the closest thing we have to Josh Hamilton" and if thats the case then the guy should get another look here.
I believe this team can compete for an A.L. West title in 2009, God-willing and then compete in the playoffs from 2010 to beyond..They have to be smart though and not rush things.
The truth has spoken and I'm out!
P.S. To the haters on LSB..I'm sure yall will bash and hate and w/e else you kids do behind your computer screen but I will say this..winning a fight online is like winning in the special Olympics..at the end of the day, you're still retarded!

If you trade milly and "pad" we'll be lucky to finish over .500
I like Laird and he seems to be our best catcher right now till he got hurt. and Cruz always will suck ass.
How's Dshep's ass taste?

ummm Ahmad...
if you get rid of both Milly and Padzilla who’s going to do the starting pitching?
Hurley
Harrison
Mendoza
BMac- if he’s healthy??
Nippy maybe?
scared of that group.. not enough experience…the bullpen will be worn out in 2 weeks.
Milly I have no choice but to nickname you "The Laborer".

Well I assume
that if we traded all of those players (Milly, Padilla, Cat, Laird) we would be getting at least 1 SP who is young but MLB ready and can be inserted into the rotation immediately. (like what Oakland just got in Gallagher)
Oh and don’t forget Feldman.

We’d have to. Feldman is going to be put in the pen cuz of his innings totals I believe.

If we don’t trade those guys are bullpen will be worn out. They have been terrible for the last month. The young guys have been pitching better then the vets. Lets keep the young guys up here and get what we can for Pads and Millwood and roll next year.
by sftxfan on Jul 13, 2008 8:24 PM CDT 0 recs
If we trade those 2
I stated above that this off season you go out and try to sign an ace. Also, if you trade those two you assume that one of them brings you back a solid MLB ready pitcher.
So lets just assume for a second and say this..
we sign CC this off season and next year we have a rotation of..
CC
Hurley
Harrison
McCarthy
insert 5th start via minors, trade, signing, etc
that isn’t the greatest rotation but it’s a lot better than this years rotation

Exactly
that means we had competitive offers in both instances. To think it is “laugh my ass off” funny that we could make a competitive offer for CC is misguided.

I don't mean to say we won't make a competitive offer
But I highly doubt he’d want to sign here. Ben Sheets on the other hand, would be my prime target just because I think we’d actually have a shot at signing him.

I imagine we will have to overpay Ben Sheets to come here or provide him with more years in the contract.

how about sheets
almost as good, but teams will be much more weary of the big contract with his injuries.
it would certainly be a big risk for the rangers.. but the rangers are one top of the rotation player away from being a contender.

I'm sure you're joking
so why not go ahead and get Burnett and K-Rod and see if CJ can handle a spot in the rotation:
CC
Sheets
Burnett
McCarthy
CJ
Hurley/Harrison/Mendoza/Feldman for depth

If any Ranger official said
....”One Ranger official said something along the lines of ‘Cruz is the closest thing we have to Josh Hamilton’ and if thats the case then the guy should get another look here.”
......
then that Ranger official should be drug tested. Where did you hear this? It would be kosher to post a link to such tripe. I don’t believe it until I read it.

i agree with most of it..
but i would keep laird and trade salty for young pitching, i dont care how good of hitter salty may become, as you all know we need pitching. keep eddie, he may be old but he is a great setup man, i dont think he has blown an 8th inning the lead the whole year, and try to resign him
cj said that eddie has been drilling in their heads that if you hit your spots then no one can hit you and im sure hes taught them other things
and yes keep cruz, he could be a late-bloomer and we could use a right-handed power hitter but if you can get pitching for him then trade him without a question
just my thoughts….
Kinsler is the best player on the rangers(done), BENOIT SUCKS(done), bring up Harrison(done),new: Put Nippert in rotation, Mendoza to the pen, get Feliz to AAA by the end of the year, trade cat
