Beane ahead of the curve!!!

Beane knows that the A's do not have the hitting to win the west so he is stocking up his farm system with hitters and pitchers for the future.

Texas sure as hell does not have the pitching to stay in the race. Or offense is tremendous, and will get better with Blalock at 3rd, but can we keep scoring 7+ runs a game? The Rangers have been so bad for so long that this mini run is something the front office sees as a way to put butts in seats and the soso fans see and think we have a chance when realistically we don't.

We should be out there shopping Padilla, Millwood, Bradley, Guardado, Cat and Vasquez. They are not going to bring back a Tex haul but if they are put together correctly with a prospect here and there we could get soem near ready pitching. Near ready itching is what we need to go along with out near ready, or ready, offensive players.

I think Beane is one heck of a GM but he is not playing under the same rules, money wise or expectation wise, as the Rangers but we should follow suit.

beane went

from being under-rated, to slightly overrated pretty quickly…

I blame it not on Ron Washington, but on society. Society is to blame. And Ron Washington. ~Ken Tremendous on Ron Washington sac bunting in the 11th vs LAA

When

was he underrated? I think he’s been overrated for quite a while, though I think many are underestimating the Harden deal, all things considered. He should have traded Blanton last winter.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

How so?

If anything he started overrated with the gift of Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Harden and then maybe went to underrated when everyone thought he was making a mistake by trading them away. Not sure what he’d be considered right now but I sure as hell respect what he’s doing.

exactly. ticket sales shouldnt matter,

at this point. If they want to sell more tickets spend more money on big names and put a roof on and AC. this team is 2009 or 2010.. until we get legit pitching the goal shoujld be to get pitching.

Damn JD, i wish i could be smoaking some Danks. f bmac.

I Know Its Hot Out and all

but have you ever really experienced indoor baseball? Its a beating. Win and the stadium will be filled like it was for the most part in the late ‘90’s. I think it was hot in those years, too.

Bradley

As many have said, only trade Bradley if you can get a true #1 in return.

++++

Is it not understood that to get a true #1 pitcher the Rangers would have to offer a package of players?

I just don't think anyone is trading 1s or 2s unless they are about to bolt for FA

Matt Garza is the one exception I can think of in recent memory.

I’d be happy with a solid 200 IP #3.

A solid 200IP #3

would be the #1 for the Rangers right now.

It may be possible to get someone from a lower level with #1 potential, a la Feliz

No chance for the likes of Buchholz

In fact, I don’t think it’s even possible at this point to get someone like Buchholz, unless you go stupid with an offer

A true No. 1

...for a half a season of a guy with a history of injuries? Doubtful.

by FuturePants on Jul 18, 2008 11:36 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Umm. I don't think the A's fate is harmed all that much by losing Blaton.

Harden is a big loss, but his health is so unpredictable that I can’t blame Beane for not banking on Harden’s health for the rest of the season. He might’ve thought it was most likely that they’d need to make the playoff push with Harden on the DL. He basically transfered his risk on the Harden deal. Instead of hoping Harden holds together the rest of this year he’s hoping the prospects he got for Harden will develop, soon. He apparently thinks there is less risk relative to the payoff with the prospects.

The rest of this season isn’t about either contending or building for next year. It’s really about both. The Rangers have the next two weeks to determine if they will continue to do both or move into development-only mode for next season.

Go Rangers!

Beane is the best GM Beane has ever seen

I’m really sick of hearing about him.

Do you really think it was an “ahead of the curve!!!” move to trade Blanton? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Right!!!

Do you really think it was an "ahead of the curve!!!" move to trade Blanton? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

And the point is it should be a no brainer for the Rangers to be sellers also but as of right know we are not.

Beane isn't ahead of the curve

He’s a year behind. He’s just copying the Rangers’ unloading of Gagne, Teix and Lofton.

Seriously, why is he “ahead of the curve?” Because he’s trading off players? I’m sure if anyone wanted Milly and Padilla the Rangers would listen. Hell, I think they were trying to trade Laird most of the season. The A’s trading activity isn’t groundbreaking.

Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

Yep

Unfortunately, almost all of the players the Rangers were looking to trade have either been hurt (Blalock and Laird) or gone into the tank (Millwood and Padilla). Only Bradley has stayed healthy. I still think we will end up being sellers, but our players are not going to be at their max value.

hey genius...

...contenders don’t trade away Major League-ready pitching…

contenders count on their young arms during late-season pennant chases… look at Bucholz, Hughes and Chamberlain last year.

a not-so-obvious example would be Pelfrey with the Mets… made five starts with them last September and won three games.
