Juan Gonzalez, '98 vis a vis Josh Hamilton, '08
My son thought it would be a good idea to compare the hitting stats of Juan Gonzalez during his noteworthy year of 1998 to those of resident beasticon, Josh Hamilton, through July 17 of their respective years. What he found was remarkable similarity...
Thru 7/17 of respective year G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SB BA OBP SLG OPS96 420 384 64 113 28 1 26 101 24 1 .294 .336 .576 .912 Gonzalez
93 425 377 60 117 22 3 21 095 37 7 .310 .367 .552 .919 Hamilton

Sorry
I tried to get the column headings directly over the numbers but failed miserably.

Juan Gone makes me sad
He should have been a hall of famer. His stats in the late ‘90s were special.

Juan Gonzalez
Are there any steroid allegations surrounding him? His numbers early in his career were amazing, but the dropoff in his play and the rash of injuries, its a plausible conclusion. However, I haven’t heard as many rumors surrounding him as, for instance, Pudge Rodriguez.

Jose Canseco
says that pretty much every ranger in the early ‘90s was juiced. But he’s not exactly the most reliable witness…

There was the carry-on bag incident while he was in Cleveland
other than that, none that I know of.

Didn't Tom Hicks pretty much say that Juan Gone was juiced and that's why he sucked when they brought him back?

Yeah
He said bringing JuanGon back the second time around when he didn’t do steroids was a bad idea.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Roids were the thing to do....
in the early 90s, so yes he likely was on them, but most of the power guys were league wide in those days, and that could be why he burned out so quickly, if he could have played 15 years or so, he would have had some major numbers.

Roids
players in baseball and football have been doing that since the early 70s…
Josh Hamilton is better than you.
