Taylor Teagarden getting called up?

Someone on the Ticket just said he's gotten half a dozen calls from friends of TT, saying that he's getting called up. Could there be any truth to that? It doesn't make sense considering that he's about to go to the Olympics. Wouldn't start his 'clock' and what in world they do with all those catchers? Isn't Laird being called up very soon? Or could this mean that a trade of Salty, Laird or Max Ram is eminent?

(sorry for all the questions but I had to make it to 75)

Yes

I read that there was that possibility somewhere. He probably needs the mental break.

Not bad when your top two catchers go down and you still have the best hitter in the Texas League this year and, according to some, the second best catching prospect in all of baseball to fill in.

vaguely recall

I vaguely recall someone saying Laird had a set back in his rehab. Maybe Saltalamacchia’s quad/hamstring or whatever was ailing him didn’t heal over the ASB. Does MaxRam start over TT?

Sweet

the two catchers we need to be shopping are both super injured.

Awesome.

Fabulous.

It sucks to be us.

we've got time to trade both...

plus, wouldn’t you like to see what Teagarden’s all about? what if Teagarden and Max-Ram prove over the course of the next 2 weeks that we don’t need Laird OR Salty, and we’re able to trade them along with Cat and maybe Millwood/Padilla for a huge return? not that it’s likely…but what if? it’s been a crazy season…

Personally

I’m already a Maxatron fan. He won me over by looking far better than advertised behind the dish, imo.

I have seen the future, and it is Max Ramirez.

Tired of driving up to OKC. Love going to games at The Brick but gas is killing me. See it’s all about me anyway… ha

Loves me some TT. Can’t wait to see him at the ballpark

Is Salty going to the DL?

or is someone traded? I’m confused.

Salty..

Likely to the DL, supposedly his groin is still bothering him. Not a good injury for a catcher…

moves

I guess Diaz gets DFA’d and Loe gets sent down to make room for Blalock and TT.

Moves

Salty will probably go on DL which will open up TTs spot. The other will probably come from either Loe or Diaz. Doesn’t really matter which one although we may DFA Diaz to keep a spot on the 40 open.

OT: Hamilton and Kinsler...

Not worth an entire diary, but I thought this was kind of cool. Yahoo has a poll up asking who is the best player in MLB. 2 of the 4 listed choices are Rangers in Josh and Ian. Kinda nice to see the home town team getting some respect.

If he is only going to be here a couple of days you might as well start him. Especially against Gomez.

What are the new rules on options / eligibility / arbitration years?

didn’t they change recently?

Pinch me...this team is playing above .500???

by RangerMoto on Jul 18, 2008 4:17 PM CDT   0 recs

Not really

Only significant change was rule 5 related. Teams now have an extra year before having to put players on the 40 man and expose them to rule 5 draft. Which is why TT isn’t on it yet and doesn’t have to be on it until this winter.

interesting...

...so if TT were called up in September, it’s no different than him being called up now?

Pinch me...this team is playing above .500???

by RangerMoto on Jul 18, 2008 4:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

only difference

is that you have to make room on the 25 man roster for him now.

by RangerMoto on Jul 18, 2008 4:51 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Whoah, a RangerMoto sighting...

Yah, basically… provided he doesn’t get sent back down. I believe if he gets called up and then gets sent down, that burns an option.

But I could be wrong there. Does just calling him up burn an option by itself? I don’t think it does.

How’s your ball-busting, back-breaking startup thingamajigger doing, Moto?

The 40 Trumps All!!!

by thedirkatron on Jul 18, 2008 4:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No

If his contract is purchased today and he is brought up and stays up all year, or doesn’t spend more than 20 days in the minors the rest of the year, an option is not burned. Hence why if you purchased on September 1st and brought him up for the last month when rosters are expanded an option wouldn’t be burned. But if they are just bringing him up for say a week while Salty is sick and they send him back down then yes an option would be burnt. With our dearth of catching and they all being young this could become a problem down the road. Ramirez burnt an option this year, Salty burnt one last year I believe and this year, and now TT is starting burning them.

If we don’t trade someone before next year we could be going into the season with Laird and Salty up and Max and TT on their 2nd options which would only leave them with one more. Another Nelson Cruz/Jason Botts situation on the horizon possibly although that is a long way away.

I don’t mind them doing this the way I did with Duran. One of our catchers is going to be traded I think that is inevitable.

by bigsteve on Jul 18, 2008 4:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

ok, so...

...if he gets sent back down before Tuesday (to qualify to play in Beijing), and is then recalled back to the ML club before he’s spent 20 years in the minors, and he stays up the rest of the season, then an option isn’t burned?

Pinch me...this team is playing above .500???

by RangerMoto on Jul 18, 2008 4:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

correct

although I don’t know how the Olympic thing plays here. I think they are put on a restricted list of some sort but I don’t really know how that works in relation to options and ML time and such

obviously, I should've said 20 "days" in the minors...heh

Pinch me...this team is playing above .500???

by RangerMoto on Jul 18, 2008 5:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's what I figured

I definitely don’t want to burn an option… even though with a guy like TT options prolly are not going to be a huge deal down the road.

But you never know, you know?

Given that he's already 24 and ready for the big leagues

for good next year I don’t think options will really be an issue with him.

the side effect of all this press is more pressure on me to deliver and make sure our platform is as solid and secure as possible for our doctors. I’m up to the challenge, but it means my LSB contribution days are few and far between. I’m still here, lurking, reading, voting in polls, etc. Keep up the good work…it’s not going unnoticed. :)
